  • This week I'm diving into a fantastic steak and kidney pie recipe, this pie is really easy to make and has so much flavour. I take you through from start to finish, it's a good one!
Learn to make your pie pastries here- • Different Types Of Pie...
    Ingredients-
    Flaky pastry
    ➤ 225g plain flour
➤ 175g butter (in freezer for 30 minutes)
    ➤ Pinch of salt (optional)
➤ A few tbsp of cold water
    Pie
    ➤ 700g chuck steak
    ➤ 250g ox kidney
    ➤ 100g beef dripping
    ➤ 1 white onion, chopped
    ➤ 2 bay leaves
    ➤ Plain flour and seasoning
➤ 1 litre of beef stock
➤ A few glugs of Worcestershire sauce
➤ 1 egg and an additional egg yolk to glaze
    Recipe-
    1. To start cut the chuck steak up into good sized chunks, all roughly the same size. Then cut the onion up, I didn't in this video but you can also prepare your onion at this stage.
    2. Next, get a big pot on the stove, and add half of the beef dripping. Turn onto a medium- high heat and mix the steak in the seasoned flour, now in batches brown the meat in the pan. When it's picked up plenty of colour transfer to a plate and repeat with the remaining steak.
    3. Once all the steak has been browned off, move over to the kidney. Have this chopped up in slightly smaller pieces than the steak and brown off in the pan. Once it's all been coloured, transfer to the same plate as the steak and make a start with the onion.
    4. Add the diced onion to the pan, add in the other half of beef dripping at this point if you'd like and move around then add in the bay leaves. Once this has sweated down add the meat and kidney back and move around, then add in the stock and Worcestershire sauce. This will now need to cook down on a low temperature for 1 and a half to 2 hours. 5. Test the meat throughout so you can see how it's progressing, once the time is up you can leave to cool so the fat solidifies. If you're in a hurry you can skim off when hot. Now it's time to prepare the pastry. Please see video above for the pastry method, for the pie roll out nice and thin and layer on top of the meat. Portion out the meat filling into the pie dishes and then top with the pastry, brush with egg wash and then put in a hot oven for 25-30 minutes until the pastry is golden brown.

My Nan & I were the only ones in the family who liked steak & kidney pie so when we staved over we would cook up one of these, much to my brothers & my Pops disgust served with steaming mashed potato & butter on a cold winters night, there was nothing better in comfort food.

Doing this today, but not going to bother making my own Pastry. Too much time and mess.
You can easily get Pie Pastry already made in the Supermarkets.

That's not a pie; it's stew covered in pastry. Probably tastes great, but that's not the point.

Never let it be said that 'The British Culinary menu' is ;boring, basic, and un nutritious! How many battles have those 'extremely fit ' British Soldiers won whilst dining on 'British fayre'! dx
