BNSF 294 Rescuing Amtrak 8 Chase| 3/19/2024

BNSF 294 makes for quite the catch as it pulls Amtrak 8 along BNSF’s Hillsboro and Staples Sub. BNSF power leading Amtrak 8 happens every once in a while but what’s rare is to have an SD75I leading. Last time this happened was in July 2021 on Amtrak 8 and I believe there hasn’t been any other times previously before that.
This train was running over 12 hours late so we start off in Alton, ND on the Hillsboro Sub as they make their way to Fargo station. After Fargo we follow the train along the Staples Sub from Lake Park to Big Lake. BNSF locomotives can only go about 68mph compared to 79mph so chasing is a lot more possible. This was a fun day and was so nice to redemption for missing the last SD75I to rescue Amtrak.
