    That poor Continental C-145 engine must have just been totally shot when this was finally finished.

      The reason why they finally ended the flight was due to carbon buildup in the exhaust valves. It was robbing the engine of so much power, they started refueling four times a day instead of twice so they didn't have to take on as much weight. Finally it got to the point that they didn't think they could climb out after refueling and that's when they called it. Both of these pilots and the ground crew were just spectacular!

    Can you imagine living in a small plane for all that time while flying it. I bet the FAA wouldn't even allow this today I bet Cessna wished they had sponsored it.

    • @VictoryAviation
      @VictoryAviation Před rokem

      What would the FAA do to stop you? As long as you always have a pilot at the controls (looking at you RedBull), then you're not breaking any rules.

      He worked for the museum until two summers ago when he retired. I just so happened to talk to him the last week he was working there by phone. He actually knew Bob Timm personally.

      They could change the engine oil from inside the cockpit by routing the oil lines into the cockpit. Genius really
