- This is my first impressions video on the 2021 Haibike HardSeven 5.0. Later in the week, I will make a video of riding the bike, and in about a month an in-depth update video. I recommend using the Tredz website. The delivery time was 4 days, very fast considering it was free, and everything was handled for me. It comes with a nice kit to get you started, for free.
How Haibike naming works:
The easiest way to decipher the model name is to split it into two words. So for example Hard and Nine. The first word refers to the suspension, so bikes with Hard in the title will be Hardtails and therefore only have suspension at the front. Bikes with Full in the title with be Full-Suspension and therefore will have suspension on the front and rear. The second word refers to wheel size. Nine means it has 29” wheels and Seven means it has 27.5” wheels.
This bike is the HardSeven, so 27.5, but it's also available in a 29er, HardNine version.

Hi thanks for this review I got one the other week same colour as urs aswell very happy with it so far done 150 miles onit
Glad to hear it, stay safe and have fun
Just got this bike today. Like it so far
Good review James and looking forward to the next one.😘☺👍
Thanks for the review. Answered all my questions. Going to order one Tomorrow
No problem bro, enjoy it!
I’ve also been looking at a E bike, not sure of hard tail or full suspension….🤔
@@richarddutchholland4780 It depends on if you are going to be doing tracks or more technical stuff with big rocks and jumps, if your doing tracks like the seven stanes and happy doing the less challenging but still physically strenuous routes a hard tail is perfect as it is lighter and less to maintain
@@eddiehanratty4601 I live in a valley in South Wales surrounded by forests with miles of forestry roads, I don’t think I’d do much more than that. Hard tail could be the answer.
Hard tail for me😋 cheaper, faster up hills and flats and still useable on road. Full sus bikes are great if all you’re doing is harsh trail riding otherwise you’ll take a beating in a hard tail😅
Thank you for the review. I have ordered the teal/honey colour in a medium, not seen any of this colour in the flesh so I hope I like it :).
No worries hope it helped, I think that colour looks super nice too! Wanted to make this review as there aren’t to many reviews of the Haibikes by the avg joe like me!
@@JamesTake2 What stand do you have, I need get myself one now :)
I don’t use a stand although I might get one soon!
Sorry I meant your work stand :)
@@JamesTake2 Sadly I was a little bit disappointed with the teal/honey colour as I expected it to be an off-white ish colour but to my surprise it is like a minty green colour.
Would love to see some clips of the boardman like jumps and just riding in jenral
I have 1, always willing to show u some clips
Like the new bike but I’m here to see the green one
I will try get some street clips tomorrow, such as stair drops and wheelies etc, then I will take some when I am back at the trails!
Great review! I have the Hardnine 5 coming shortly! Does this bike support the new Bosch features like firmware direct to the bike/ app?
Can these be financed? Or am I better off saving to buy right away? Also what locks would you recommend. Thanks
Hi. Thanks for this video like you said not many around and im looking at getting 2, one for me and wife. I noticed some keys on the handle bars when it was in the delivery box. Is the battery locked in with a key? Just concerned about battery's being stolen if they are not locked in. Thanks
Yes they are locked in with a key, you get quite a few spare ones too. The key is just used to lock the battery in not to start the bike. Any more questions feel free to ask ☺️
Hi, did you change your tyres over for more road type ones, I was wondering if you did what differences have you noticed in mileage range or handling, many thanks
Hiya sorry I never changed them.
Thank you 😊🙏
I have a Hardnine 5, can you recommend a side stand for this bike?
Hello, do you know if the bike has the ‘vertical’ or horizontal’ design Bosch powertube? Thanks!
I’ve checked the battery and I can’t see anything written on it to say it’s vertical or horizontal, sorry
I have just purchased the Hardnine version and the dealer didn't know what the holes were for under the battery (underside of the frame). There are two top and two bottom of the frame. Can you help?
Sorry I don’t know what they are for, perhaps they’re an accessory mounting point
Maybe to mount a motor protection plate/cover to stop stones hitting the motor or scraping it on rocks etc.
Can you ride the eBike without the electric motors? So like a normal mountain bike? Is there an off and on switch?
Yes you can turn the motor off and ride it normally. There is basically no motor resistance so it can be peddled easily, although the bike does way 24kg so I wouldn’t want to pedal it without the motor!
Cool video brilliant info 👌 👌 thanks 💯 💡 ☕
Thank you I’m glad it helped 💯
Hi James thanks for the review.. how are you finding the mileage range on the bike now a few months in..
Good. When I’m commuting I achieve about 35 mile range in turbo constantly. In eco Ive gone 45 miles on half a charge, that’s as far as I’ve gone. Got to remember though this is mainly due to the extreme pedalling efficiency of this motor other then performance line cx and other motors. By this I mean once the motor cuts out at 16mph ish, it’s still very easy to pedal the bike with basically zero resistance. So most the time on longer flat journeys you’ll let the bike take you to 16mph then all u have to do is keep it there and let the bike do little work, until a hill or somewhere you have to stop. Often times when I’m commuting in turbo I’m in no hurry and am tired, so I often pedal lightly and let the motor do all the work, and thus keeping it under 16mph so it’s always engaged. So I’d imagine if u pedalled harder in turbo you’d get even more than I do.
@@JamesTake2 So it has no standalone throttle mode?
No, not throttle.
Thank you for the review. I'm considering a Haibike, what do you think about nine gears as opposed to 12? Are nine sufficient for you? Sounds like we'd have a similar type of usage.
I have a full suspension mountain bike, not electric, with 12 gears, and I use all 12 of them! However, when it comes to an electric mtb like this, with the assistance the motor gives, you’ll find yourself using your gears much less, or at least I did. A motor like this one is actually on the lower end in terms of torque compared to others, however even that considered, it’s still so much power to the point where you rarely need to change gear. Even if I’m going up the steepest of hills I rarely use the lowest gear, and if I’m just commuting on the streets I’ll usually leave it in gear 6, which is the perfect balance where the motor still gets you up to speed stupidly fast, but also leaves you at a fairly steady pedal speed once at that 15.5mph. I suppose what I’m trying to say is due to the assistance you don’t really need to ever downshift. I’ve used the 9th gear like once going down a 40mph hill, and even then I could still pedal. When I have used the lowest gear it gives the bike so much torque it just power wheelies haha. So in a round up, I think the 9 gears is perfect, if it had anymore, it would just annoy me because of how many times I’d have to change the gear. Also You’re welcome for the review glad to help!
Thanks. Great info. Looks like I'll be taking the plunge and getting me one of these!
Hi. Any kickstand for this bike? I found on Google this XLC KS-X08 but I dont know where I mount this stand plate on bike. Some help?
I don’t think it has a specific kick stand mount so you’ll need one that clamps around the frame.
How do you power the bike is there a throttle system that I am missing or is it pedal assisted?
Pedal assist
Hello mate, going to get this bike to get too and from work because the way back has a few hills which is a bit difficult on a normal bike. I’m turbo mode does it just fly up banks? Never had an electric bike so not sure what to expect.
It seriously flys up anything! With the 70nm of torque it’ll go up anything. It’ll power wheelie up normal road hills, the only hills these things struggle on are on trails where there isn’t enough traction!
Aww class, cheers for the feedback mate
Does the charge unit auto cut off when the battery is charged, thanks in advance.
Yes it is indeed.
I've just ordered this bike, I was looking at the boardman 9.0 for ages. How are you finding the bike now you have had it for a while?
Still love it. Boardman 9.0 is a nice mtb for sure if you’re looking not electric, this won’t have quite the same spec, but the kit that is put together is perfect. The brakes I’ve found to be surprisingly powerful, although modulation isn’t great, which is to be expected. Gears are fantastic, got more than enough, and the fork does it’s job, obviously an air fork would be nicer, but for the price I can’t complain. Overall really like the bike!
That's good to know. Mine should be arriving tomorrow which is surprisingly quick seeming as I only ordered it last night. I will be out on it this weekend! I'm looking forward to it.
I'm confused at how anyone would choose between the Hardseven and the Hardnine. You say you are 6ft2 but went for the smaller bike. How did you make your choice?
That’s a fair question, essentially the wheel size can make a big difference on the way the bike handles. The bike itself is already a massive bike, so lifting it onto 29 wheels will make it even bigger, this would be great for cross country riding or road riding, and would work well with my height, but a lot of my riding style was trail riding, and 27.5 wheels are much snappier and fast to accelerate, and make me feel more in touch with the bike on a trail. Wheel size is more a matter of personal preference rather than sizing, you should always buy a bike by frame size not wheel size.
Can u take the battery out and charge it. So it's not connected to the bike
So you can
I've seen a few stories on fb pages that this bike can suffer with the chain falling off the front chain ring as they don't use a narrow wide ring and as there's no clutch on the 9 speed derailleur. Have you experienced it at all? Get mine delivered soon looking forward to it apart from this potentially bad design parts use by haibike
Actually yes, I do get this problem. I went downhill mountain biking on Sunday and in the whole day it fell off twice and it is annoying. I’d imagine being a hard trail doesn’t help as it means it gets thrown around more. But I rarely hammer it down trails this hard and I understand that with all the extra power it won’t believe exactly like a normal bike all the time so I’m ok with it, it rarely drops.
Thanks for the reply I think I'm going to put q narrow wide on mine they are about £40 I'm not a massive downhill rider just canal paths forest trails so I, should imagine that will be enough. Great video BTW gavee something to admire while I waited for mine to arrive. Out on it now 16 miles of country lanes so far
Nice! I’ve done 1000 miles in 3.5 months which is crazy. But largely road commuting. I’m glad my review could help, I’m not the best at making them but there wasn’t a review for it so I thought it would at least help someone.
Hello ive Got an question. Does youre haibike when youre peddeling Backwards does the Chain move backwards ?
Yes on this particular haibike, the chain does move backwards freely, but on the Bosch Performance Line CX, the higher grade motor on some haibikes, it just clicks when you attempt to pedal backwards
@@JamesTake2 thx
doe you wanna Upgrade ore change something on youre bike ?
ive changed the Handlebars and the Stem after this i wanna change the fork to an Air Fork from Rockshox maybe and i will upgrade the brakes i will change them to Tektro Orion 4 piston Brakes
You know whre I can buy a spare battery from please drop a link if so thanks
Sorry I don’t know. If it were me, I’d contact Haibike and the dealer where I bought the bike from to attempt to source a battery.
I got the hardnine 4.0... Just wanna ask if these bikes are tubeless / tubeless ready... The book/handbook is on german language🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️
They are tubeless ready, but come with tubes in. I know the user manual is completely useless!😂 I check my comments daily so if you have any other questions feel free to ask me🤙
Thinking of getting this but the hardnine version which comes with 29” wheels. It’s this or the cube.
Both great options to be honest, I chose to get 27.5 because I simply prefer the feel on trails, I think the cube may be more XC oriented whereas the Haibike is more of a trail bike. But I’m not to sure either will be great and each have their pros n cons.
@@JamesTake2 ok thanks
Hi, have you ever had any trouble with chain suck while hitting the trials? Mine is suffering big time
Do you mean the chain dropping and then getting stuck behind the chain ring in between it and the motor? If so, yes, it’s because the chain ring isn’t very good so it doesn’t hold it on very well, only way to fix that would be to upgrade the chain ring.
@@JamesTake2 yes, I am trying to find a solution.
Any issues with the charging port on the frame? When I pull my charger out the whole plug comes out not sure if there's a certain way to unplug it? The retailer I got from didn't show and no instructions
Mine pulls out the frame too, think it’s just bad design, I just push it back in like it didn’t happen, so not really an issue but quite funny to see yours has the same thing.
@@JamesTake2 makes me. Feel better knowing I'm not alone haha, I've not long had mine do you still enjoy yours?
Yeah I still like it, I just hate the speed limiter but I won’t remove it because I understand the motor and battery are designed to be at that limit
@@JamesTake2 what type of milage do you get combimbed I had mine fully charged an Prob got about 15miles using emtb an turbo up hills only?
are u able to get a battery extender on this bike?
I’m not sure sorry, I think that haibike are currently working on producing one, be worth a google
Did you manage to get a dropped post on it? If so was it hard?
Don’t have the bike anymore sorry man, but yes the wiring will be trick if you’re fully internally routing it. There are CZcams videos on how to make it easier
hi tip good video but a lot of camera movement
Can you charge the battery off the bike.
Yes you can remove the battery from the frame with the included keys, and store / charge it off the bike
Hi I’m 5ft7 what frame size would I need to buy ?
Probably a medium size frame 29 wheels 🤟🏻
Is the bike/led display waterproof or resistant ?
I have ridden it in rain with no issues although I believe it isn’t completely waterproof. I’ve had it out in short bursts of heavy rain but not prolonged.
how did you find it, i am trying to find the size L, it is almost impossible. when did you buy it?
I bought the last one yesterday from tredz 😬.
I bought it Friday last week. Tredz got out of stock very quickly so you can have to keep your eye on it. It does come back into stock every few days, or at least it has been - because it’s the 2021 line they should keep making more and more.
Alright bud how you getting on with the haibike now gonna buy one soon
Still loving it. Definitely can’t go wrong with the Bosch system and despite the ‘low level’ component list it handles trails like a beast. Only thing I dislike is the speed limiter at 15.5mph - although it’s easy to pedal over it with very little resistance.
Do you remove the battery with a key?
Yes 👍
you do know if ya local bike shop is bosch certified they can update the motor to 85nm and i would do it if i was you i had my haibike xduro 3.0 updated by mate in local shop
isn't that for gen 4 cx motor this as gen 3 performance line motor .???
@@deltafx00 yeah mine is a gen4 tho i think gen3 can be updated aswell i guess it's worth checking if gen 3 has any updates to
Hello, roughly how heavy is the bike?
23kg
How much did you pay ? Any shipping fees and tax ?
There is no shipping or tax for the UK which is where I live.
Compared to cube hybrid?
This is more of a trail bike whereas the Cubs is a cross country bike, in my opinion. They are both really similar and not having owned the cube I can’t really give much of a comparison annoyingly.
@@JamesTake2 if I purchased the haibike for trails will this be ideal and any modifications would be required
Is possible you can upload one with
Alterations for trails
I haven’t modified anything, the only thing you may want to change are typical personal preference mods such as tyres pedals grips saddle etc, for the price it’s a capable trail bike but you’re only going to get so much out of the low end suntour fork and tektro brakes
How long do the haibikes last per charge like how many miles can ye do
Depends on the mode you’re riding in and the terrain. On average in turbo mode is be getting 40 miles, and eco mode I never tan it down as it lasts so long
what the range on turbo mode?
Honesty depends on the riding. I’d say if you using a lot of assistance (so riding under 15.5mph most the time) then probs about 25 miles) but I’d get 60+ miles out of turbo because alot of the time on longer rides or commutes I’d be above 15.5 therefore not using any assistance
@@JamesTake2 yesterday i have bought one from tredz. plan do uber on bike. that why i ask about range. never been ride pedal assist bike. don't know how its feel like :) just strange why bike cost 2k and no fends on it ...
Is it pedal assist or does it have a throttle like a motor bike
Pedal assist
Can you take the battery out?
Yeah you can!
With a key?
I wish my battery was 600 :(
what size did you go for how tall are you .??
Large which I think is the biggest size. I’m 6’2 and it’s more than big enough.
Lighter bike like this….
…27 Kilo without Pedals
😅😅😅😅
It was 23kg it says on the box
