    Noice! I like the way it rides, the all metal chassis and the weight of the body obviously helps quite a lot with the realism, and of course, traction! I hope you enjoy this so cool truck!
    I just accidentally 🤔 acquired one from a UK model shop that I just visited, for £325 pre-built, including the small RC4WD trailer and a radio set. And it's so clean I'm guessing it's never been run outdoors! Maybe a shelf queen? The only thing wrong I can see so far is rattly suspension , and under scale figures inside. I've ordered a couple of Tamiya ones and an RC4WD one as well. Oh and there's a DIY wall hook in the back bumper for the trailer. 🤦‍♂ Haven't driven it yet, as I'll have to wait till I get home, wasn't planning any RC this weekend, so no batteries or charger.

    • @hollyhillrc
      @hollyhillrc  Před 2 lety +1

      Hi Mal. The servo horn was odd, but I think the original RC4WD metal one may have been taken off to use on another RC when this was put up for sale. I didn't notice it at first and it worked ok on the initial test run in the garden. I had the metal one in my spares so it was a quick inexpensive fix.

    maybe that roof rack makes it a bit wibbly wobbly but everything else looks to help rather than hinder. Wheel on the bonnet is so Landie, so Daktari, it MUST stay hehe. And I must say, those AT tyres impressed on Steve's 18th Gelande3 and now on your bigger brother. I like it, defo a good deal on ebay sir!

    • @hollyhillrc
      @hollyhillrc  Před 2 lety +1

      Hello mate. Thank you very much. Daktari is a word I haven't heard for a very long time and was an epic series back in the day. One of my childhood favourites. Thanks for reminding me about that, and the memories. The metal rack does make it top heavy, however it also makes things a lot more interesting when I run it up slopes like this. It was a fine line between tipping over or staying upright a few times. I found that exciting and I won't be doing anything to try and correct it. I like the look of the rack too and may put some lightweight scale accessories on it in the future. The tyres impressed me as well, and because I use my RC's for trailing, as opposed to crawling, I see no reason to change them.

      Hi Steve. Thanks very much. It was interesting trying to get up the slope without tipping over. The metal luggage rack looks nice but adds a lot of weight up top.

    • @rccrawlersmid-wales645
      @rccrawlersmid-wales645 Před 2 lety +1

      @@hollyhillrc Yeah, mine's the same. The weight up high and right at the back is the limiting factor.

    • @hollyhillrc
      @hollyhillrc  Před 2 lety

      I wasn't sure if I liked the wheel on the bonnet when I got it. But I think the weight there helped to give the traction it needed to get up the slope, and I'm liking the look of it more now too. All these things contribute to the challenges of scale RC driving which I really enjoy.

    Hello, Derek - good work on the restoration. This is a lovely truck, and deserves decent servo hardware and a set of inner fenders. I bet the driver figure can't believe his luck!
    The run is terrific - impressive grip @ 3:48, and good persistence on your part!

    • @hollyhillrc
      @hollyhillrc  Před 2 lety +1

      Hi Del. Thank you very much. The servo horn was a surprise but maybe the original RC4WD metal one was replaced before the seller listed the D90 on eBay. It wasn't a problem because the metal one I used was a spare in my RC box of goodies. I enjoyed the run a lot and it was fun trying to get up the hill. Someone has suggested better tyres, but I think that would eliminate the challenge, and considering it did actually make it up the hill the stock tyres proved their worth and will be staying on.

    • @Del350K4
      @Del350K4 Před 2 lety +1

      @@hollyhillrc It took me a long time to realise that if you improve performance you end up having to look for more challenging terrain, and don't necessarily have more fun.

    • @hollyhillrc
      @hollyhillrc  Před 2 lety +1

      @@Del350K4 It's something I realised when I ran a Axial SCX10 and a CC-01 in the same place. I had to really work at it with the CC-01, and the SCX10 went over it with ease. Each is satisfying in its own way, but I do like a challenge if I can find some good terrain. I mainly trail with my RC's because I don't have many options near by, and travelling is becoming more difficult due to my health these days.

    • @hollyhillrc
      @hollyhillrc  Před 2 lety +1

      Thank you very much for your thoughts my friend. I enjoyed trying to get up the slope with the stock tyres, and even though it struggled it did make it up eventually. Better tyres would make it easier, but that would take a lot of the challenge (and fun) away for me, so I will keep the stock ones on. But the metal luggage rack does make the D90 a bit top heavy so some more weight low down is a good suggestion.

      @@hollyhillrc As long as you have fun, I wouldn't change it either👍

  • @PeteWylieRC
    @PeteWylieRC Před 2 lety +1

    Hiya Derek. Really nice scale looks to that one. Your additions improved it yet further. Who on earth put that servo horn etc. in?! I did cheer when you finally got it up that slope. So that's the fun of crawling? I sort of get it now although I'd rather hit that slope at 25mph and see what happened! Hope you are ok mate. Hopefully a meet up before too long :-)

    • @hollyhillrc
      @hollyhillrc  Před 2 lety +1

      Ha Ha Ha. From a "Captain Slow" point of view Pete, if you hit the slope at 25mph it would go flying over the top in a few seconds, and your fun factor would only last a few seconds. But I guess if you did it over and over again it would prolong your enjoyment. My fun factor was the 57 seconds it took trying different lines and speeds on the loose dirt to conquer the slope with a top heavy scale RC with stock tyres. The feeling of success when it finally climbed over the summit was good, and that's why I enjoy this side of the RC hobby so much. Thanks for cheering though mate ! lol. Always appreciate your support. I'm guessing the original metal servo horn was swapped out before the D90 was listed on eBay. It wasn't a problem though because I had a spare metal one to replace it.
