  • In this video I go over how to oil and service your Rogue and Rep Fitness Barbells. I found most of my barbells bone dry from the factory so make sure you do this and don't wait until they are corroded or worse in your home gym.

    I have a 30 year old olympic barbell that came with a set of plates . This year was the first time the sleeves have been off and actually looked decent. I did buy an Ohio Boneyard bar this year just to see what all the fuss was about, and we'll its pretty.

      I think the oil is more for corrosion prevention than anything. I was surprised my Rogue bars were shipped dry.

    I sold my Rogue Ohio bar after I felt the Rep Deep knurled stainless bar. It truly is the best bar

      That stainless bar has amazing knurling on it. I'm glad I scooped one up.

    Helpful video. I need to service the sleeves on my Deep Knurl bar. They don't have very good rotation and it just feels rough when they spin. Some of that might be due to the use of stainless steel bushings, On the other hand, that may have nothing to do with it. But first, I gotta get some snap ring pliers. I hadn't even considered Harbor Freight. I've had a pair of Knipex in my Amazon cart for months.

      I was shocked how many bars were bone dry. Never oiled from the factory. My deep knurl bar was good but I oiled it anyway. Glad it helped!

    Just finished my first barbell servicing! actually its was a rogue db-10 but definitely needed some oil. Thanks for your review, it gave me the confidence that I could do it my self! One thing your video didnt mention...need a good set of pliers, the one I had were 5$...wasnt even able to get out the first snap ring...I invested in better one. 😉 probably you didnt mention because your tools are freaking awesome 😂

      Does it matter? The bronze bushing is self lubricating. Not arguing, just making a observation. Also, if there is no debris or corrosion wouldn’t a few drops of oil on both sides of the collars do the same thing?

    • @loveydovey4u
      @loveydovey4u Před 11 měsíci

      @timlee5260 mine only has bushing on one end. Lube keeps it quiet, too

    Which pliers worked well for the Bare Steel Barbell?
    I have the same barbell but obviously different snap rings than that of Rogue’s.

    • @MacStrengthCo
      @MacStrengthCo  Před rokem

      I just used a small tipped flat head screwdriver to pop the clip out. It’s easy once you do a couple of them and you can swap them out for a snap ring.

    So, after breaking these barbells down, which bar are you most impressed with as far as construction goes

    • @MacStrengthCo
      @MacStrengthCo  Před 4 měsíci +1

      I don't own one due to being expensive but the best made barbells are "American Barbell". The rest of the major players are all similar when compared.

    I'm currently rehabbing a neglected bar and the split collars were fractured into multiple pieces. Where can you buy new ones that fit? Size?
    Rouge sells a kit of them, but with shipping it's $37 for a couple of washers/split collars. Really? $37??

    I use lithium grease personally largely because I don't want to ever reservice it... It's thicker than oil personal preference

    • @rodolfomedini9931

      This is despite of the warning not to use grease

    • @MacStrengthCo
      @MacStrengthCo  Před rokem

      My findings were grease had the worst spin but what did you find? I think grease would improve over time and thins out too. good tip!

    • @rodolfomedini9931
      @rodolfomedini9931 Před rokem +1

      @@MacStrengthCo Lithium grease is thinner then the grease I saw in the clip... I find it lasts longer than oil but is also thin enough to to get into tight tolerances... Doesn't spin as good as 3 in 1 but close enough and I'm not having to reapply anywhere near as often.

    • @dirtyfilthyrottenstinkinpa835
      @dirtyfilthyrottenstinkinpa835 Před rokem

      The general rule of thumb I've found is bushings get oil and bearings get grease.
      Most every bar I've purchased in the past 3 years has come with a rather thin grade of machine oil that gets dark SUPER fast. It's good for corrosion and that's about it. Pretty much any lightweight oil you can purchase is better for stopping metal on metal wear.

    • @BasementBrandon

      @@MacStrengthCo I haven't, mostly b/c I don't care as much about the spin. I have a few bars that spin way too well and I can't bench or squat with them b/c they feel like they're rolling lol

    • @MacStrengthCo
      @MacStrengthCo  Před rokem

      @@BasementBrandon Yes I know exactly what you mean. I did it for the rust building up on the bars. The luxuries of basements.. no corrosion....😂 cheers buddy!
