  • I've been wanting to restore an old, rusty barbell for quite some time and this is the perfect candidate. A 20+ year old Mac Barbell Texas Power Bar that was hardly used but left in the back of a shed for many years. The restoration was hard for me to believe, and likely will be for you as well!

If you want to make a quick, cheap tub for this restoration, buy a length of 4" PVC pipe, glue endcaps on it and then cut the whole thing lengthwise using a tablesaw or bandsaw. Then you don't have to worry about a leak soaking through your cardboard box.

Ryan Feltman nope! Mine now lives in a high school in MA. Strongarm is looking to break more into the US so they’ve been really kind to me and Coop by sending stuff out. Luckily their stuff is very good value for the price. Personally though I don’t think the combo makes sense for most vs a traditional rack.

Two thumbs up for this vid! One is for the luck of finding such a nice bar for what, I assume, was a great price. Second is for the beautiful restoration job done on it.
I have a 15 year old (or so) Buddy Capp TPB. Black oxide finish on the shaft originally; sleeves were bare. I believe they advertised it as 175,000 pounds tensile strength. Same cheese grater knurling. With all the specialty bars I have it doesn't make it into the rotation that often any more and spends most of its life in the rack in a garage gym exposed to high humidity. Let's just say that the steel is very high maintenance. The more they're used the less rusty they get.
