  • 1st time filmed at Plymouth in Devon on the South Devon Line, Cornish Main Line and the terminus of services from the Tamar Valley Line from Gunnislake.
Originally was supposed to film this 6 weeks ago on August 3rd however due to cancellations I had to reschedule it for September 14th however this time despite some issues I still pressed on whatever happened.
Plymouth first opened as Plymouth North Road by the Great Western Railway and the London & South Western Railway although the suffix was dropped on September 15th 1958 the same day when a former LSWR station Friary closed
The station was rebuilt several times first in 1908 and was suppose to be rebuilt again in 1938 however was halted due to World War. Work didn’t resume until 1956 II it was not completed until 1962 which include the office building Intercity House is still retained today.
There are 7 through platforms although 2 were converted in 1974 into Bay Platforms including Platform 3 which is used by terminating services from Gunnislake via the Tamar Valley Line which is used by Class 150s.
CrossCountry Services as well as Great Western Railway services from London Paddington occasionally terminate here via Platforms 5 or 6 as well as the local services from Penzance which is nowadays Castle HSTs, Class 150s or 158s.
Long distance services can be extended to Penzance which is mostly used by Great Western Railway Class 802 IETs although sometimes Class 800s can also be used to Penzance.
At the time of filming the Cornish Main Line down to Penzance was being resignalled with the original semaphore signalling being replaced which when completed the Cornish Main Line will be under the control of Plymouth New Signal Box which also controls the line for Gunnislake as far as St Budeaux Victoria Road where the rest of the route via Bere Alston is token control to Gunnislake.
Although the long distance Great Western HSTs on GWR were completely taken over on May 18th 2019 however CrossCountry HSTs for the time being are still being retained which are in the process of being modified with the slam doors being replaced with Sliding doors with work be carried out at Wabtec Works in Doncaster with similar works carried out on GWR short Sets and also Scotrail Inter7city short sets.
On the day itself due to engineering works on the East Coast Mainline around Berwick upon Tweed meant CrossCountry services to Scotland via York were cut back to Newcastle or Morpeth
Filmed on Saturday September 14th 2019 on iPhone 8 and edited on iMovie
