  • Forgiving can be really hard. For the Prophet ﷺ and the Sahaba, forgiveness sometimes meant navigating some of the most complex and devastating situations. What are 3 strategies we can take from them to navigate those difficult moments in our own lives?

    The takeaways start at 12:08
    1. Think about The redeeming qualities about that person
    2. Understand the circumstances a personal message not to excuse it, but rather to understand
    3. Focus on the greater reward

Salam admin. It would be beneficial if Imam could address issue of threats of death and harm from parents, what weaker and broken victims do when the cultural or generational cycles of abuse are happening, and due to this they give into mental and emotional manipulation which prolongs the abuse until it becomes a normative thing for the abused. And, horrific situations which are very common when abuse of other kinds are committed by fathers and brothers towards daughters/ sisters, and the mothers and matriarchal systems hide the abuse and persecute the abused from contacting the authorities. Also, in South Asian communities especially where the mothers and fathers are magicians, or they have strong bonds with magicians as a means to doing horrific acts against the kids and wider community nembers etc. It's hard to forgive such abuses as described in my examples when the abuse and harm is ongoing in a cycle of prolonged and sustained harm, and are not isolated random acts that can be segregated for other redeeming factors. The general advise is to forgive and not cut ties, but sometimes cutting ties is the only option to stop the trauma and to break the cycle whilst protecting oneself from death and harm. Forgiveness is not possible when the harm is sustained and there is a deeply embedded cultural belief that such horrific acts are the 'right' of the parent and they have a unique status with God to do whatever they want. Sometimes their Imams in the mosques who can't even speak English support these acts. Jazak Allah.

Salaam alaikum! What a horrible situation indeed. I believe that cutting ties is not literal but rather figurative in the sense that you forget whatever good there was. If one removes oneself from an abusive situation and does not establish contact, for as long as the abused prays for the abuser to change their ways and be forgiven by ALLAH AWJ 🙏✨❤️, that would not be cutting ties. ALLAH AWJ 🙏✨❤️ is not unreasonable and Islam is supposed to be a religion of ease.. Praying for them will give peace to be abused (ironically that is true). And ALLAH AWJ knows best. ❤️🙏✨ Barakallah feekum 🙏✨❤️

@@ts7371 I already watched the video and am aware of what it contains. My original lengthy comment was not asking for clarity about forgiveness solely. I was asking Admin to ask the Imam to address the legitimacy of cutting ties in serious situations as those I described. These Imams need to speak clearly and directly to abusers in their sermons, instead of fluffy advice that is not open nor clear about modern present issues aimed at victims.

Allah's Apostle said [at a funeral], “As for him, by Allah, death has come to him. By Allah, I wish him all good. By Allah, in spite of the fact that I am Allah's Apostle, I do not know what Allah will do to me.” (Sahih al-Bukhari 7003; vol 9, bk 87, no 131)
