My guest today needs no introduction if you’re a fan of reptile CZcams. He’s the founder of Reach Out Reptiles , the winner of the 2021 Snake Discovery enclosure buildoff, host for the USARK CZcams channel along with two of his own. Monthly podcaster from Searchable as Reptiles, say hi to the people Mr Garrett Hartle. How are you today?
Looks like you took a regular sales tool, customer service, followup, salesforce style communication, and applied it to snakes.
Balance sheet, expenses - exciting stuff.
So you’ve told a lot of your story in the past on other outlets, they’re great. Buying $5000 geckos as a teenager, keeping rattlesnakes under your bed in cardboard boxes, alligators in the bathroom, all of that is… hilarious, but not what I want to talk about here. For those who don’t know, you started off here in California volunteering and then working for Jays Prehistoric pets. And you had some success there. That’s what I want to talk about. How were you successful in sales there, where others may have been less successful. And how did you decide from there that you wanted to be your own brand.
How important has CZcams been? I’ve seen it progress from a basic set up plus a chalk board to a fully fledged video production machine.
Address the cult following of the channel. You now have fans. Is that something you expected and what’s your take on that?
Wife. Four kids. A dog. A cat. Two CZcams channels. A monthly podcast. What’s the matter with you? What’s your damage? But probably a more answerable question: what drives you to succeed?
You made your name by finding a niche that wasn’t being exploited. Superdwarves. What’s the next superdwarf, and how can we identify it.
How did you know you needed to hire someone.
Talk about that first leap to say, ok. This will be my job.
How important is goal setting?
Let me put you on the spot. One of the most pressing needs I see for reptile hobby are solid rescue organizations. Let’s say 6 years ago instead of deciding to build ROR you built a rescue organization. What would you do differently? What have you learned that you could carry over into a more charitable venture?
