Hi King Boomer thanks for your reactions. This brings back memories. Stavros was based on a real person a local kebab shop owner called Adam from Cyprus and he actually sounded and talked like that apart from serving great kebabs. Harry lived around the corner. Unfortunately Adamos passed away earlier this year.

This is that well known British accent “Greek-Norf-Lahnden”. The barber I used to go to (another Cypriot profession, for some reason) in the late 1970’s was “George” to everyone and had almost exactly this accent - ending every sentence with “innit?” but also had a tendency to mumble. The result was that you could sit in the chair for a half hour monologue about the latest update on him and his brother building a house in Cyprus (“in mountain, innit? not beach with all bloody tourist”) without knowing when to make the appropriate sounds of approval/disbelief/astonishment.

I saw Harry Enfield live at the Edinburgh Festival, which was great because he has not done much stand-up since then. He did Stavros, which was his big character at the time, then he introduced a new character which I hadn't seen before - Loadsamoney. The support act was Craig Ferguson, when he was still in his "Bing Hitler" persona.
Harry Enfield was one of the voice actors on Spitting Image. He used Stavros as the voice of George Michael.

Back in the day, after a big night out in the pubs (which all closed at 11.00) all the different tribes would head to the kebab shop (this is a kebab shop). There would be many fights and aggressive people. The shop owners could talk the loonies down with irrelevant questions and odd theories until the police turned up. This is the groundwork at the very start of the sketch.

It was never shown in the UK, only the odd clip and reference makes it known in the UK. We know many North American comedians begun their careers on it.

Hi K and Q Booms. I doubt very much that any of your subscribers under the age of 50 would remember Stavros. He would do a 4 min segment every week and it was the part of the show that I enjoyed the most. Previous to FNL no one had heard of Harry Enfield.
You are my goto reactor as we have a similar sense of humour and we like the same shows. Is this the correct forum for recommending shows? I have wanted to tell you, for a while now, of a show, which again many of your subscribers may not remember. The show is ‘The Day Today’. You would be the first channel to react to this show and it is masterful. It stars Christopher Morris (Denholm Reynholm) and, at the time, an unknown Steve Coogan (Alan Partridge). Please please please watch this. ( start with episode 1 as pilot not good)

I am 44 years old, so, therefore under the age of 50 and I very much remember Stavros!
Also, I must add that it's not strictly true that King Boomer's channel would be the first to react to 'The Day Today' as another channel has already reacted to 'The Day Today'.
