Wednesday is not emotionless. She's stoic. Her emotions do show through, but they're subtle, because Wednesday refuses to show what she perceives to be weakness. Ortega understood that and played it extremely well.
yeah she isnt emotionless, i was confused when i was watching this lol, but yeah
here before this blows up!
kuudere
i disagree, even tim burton agrees shes emotionless.
@@hxneybee7356 I really think that's doing a disservice to the character. She's very good at hiding her emotions, yes, but if Wednesday was truly emotionless, she wouldn't have cared when Pugsley was being bullied, or Fester showed up, or the scene with Thing in the very same episode.
I thought Enid was played perfectly. It’s very easy to overpower the unicorn rainbow sunshine girl trope and come off as annoying. She was bubbly and endearing without making you want to throw her out of a room
is it bad that i still wanted to throw her out of the room
Yes I love both Wednesday and Enid! I love Bianca too lol
@@uh4975 yes!! in the beginning Bianca was mean but I absolutely loved her character development!
i love her character. Just played perfectly
I did want to throw her out of a room sometimes
So you're calling them strict rules but actually it's just actors being professional.
It’s for them like click bait 🙄 hate it when they do that
So you’ve discovered semantics 😂
We are is the s family
yeah there just being professionals
@Brian Alvarez What makes this comment better is that she chose not to blink
In another interview she said she was willing to cut her hair to make Wednesday's character perfect. She wasn't forced to do it.
same for the blinking. she said she filmed an entire scene without blinking (without realising), Tim asked her if she could do it again. it's not like they came to her directly with: "erm so we want you for the role and only you and here's a list of rules you HAVE to follow"
Ikr, Tim was asking her if she's sure and she confirmed, there was no forcing because of hair, blinking etc. At least Jenna portrays him as very respectful and compassionate in her interviews.
That's true. She (Jenna) said that she was like," Just cut the hair. It'll be easier." She wasn't forcef
Ye
@@Alteusgirl you just repeated the video
Jenna had to cut her hair, learn fencing, some German, choreograph a dance, not blink and walk a particular way.
The Romanian magician had to be stuck in tight places, found it difficult to breathe, had his hand go numb and film difficult scenes underwater.
Catherine Zeta-Jones had to turn up on time.
Yah that was obviously worse/ harder though not blinking prob would take quite some effort with doing other things as people blink more than we realise, for some people espeicially. She also changed diet to meet nutrients needs
don’t forget she had to stop being vegan!
honestly the german was absolutely abysmal
@@magical_megan8550 Yes, but that was a natural consequence of being on location in Romania. It wasn't artificially imposed on her as part of playing the role.
No she didn’t blink when she was doing it and the director noticed and liked what she was doing and told her to continue. Also she wasn’t forced to choreograph the dance
"Complex and emotionless" the first Wednesday Addams from the 60s was described as a sweet and fun girl with odd hobbies. The Wednesday Addams from The Addams Family Values was the first Wednesday to portray themselves as darker and murderous. Every actress playing Wednesday after that took their inspiration from Cristina Ricci's portrayal
The cartoon was also a bit lively
Well Ricci was great. 🥰
IDK Didn't Lisa Loring's Wednesday use a guillotine to chop heads off dolls. But of course a movie in the 90s would be darker than a quasi kids show from the 60s.
I think the flashback to her pet scorpion was a great depiction of how she went from "sweet and fun girl with odd hobbies" to the stoic Wednesday of today. Her family accepted her, but the outside world didn't, and she was determined to never let anyone see her as weak.
@@oXyukinaXo and that reaction is completely realistic, if I had to be forced to watch as my pet whatever was brutally murdered as a little kid I’d also become closed off emotionally. It’s just basic psychology
I do like how they both incorporated the og Wednesday and the darker Wednesday
So your telling me the ACTORS.....had to ACT???? Incredibly, deeply complex and inspiring
LOL
wtf
😂😂😂😂
i think the biggest joke is if an actor is required to cut his hair/beard for a role or even refuses to bring that huge sacrifice
💀💀😭 i love this comment
She's an actress. She's doing her job. All actors do thing like this. It's not like she was abused or something. *IT'S NOT CRAZY. IT'S HER FLIPPING JOB*
Yes but it's still a lot. People can be good actors/resses and not have to do all of the learning of new skills for a movie, show, etc. And for an average person, it's also a lot. Having to film while learning new things is still the equivalent of someone working a 9-5 or 12 hour shift and expected to go home and have time to dedicate to learning new skills all the time. It is hard to juggle with daily needs, work, then trying to learn a bunch of new things. Just because it's part of her job doesn't mean it isn't a lot for someone to do and achieve well. Just because It's part of her job doesn't mean it shouldn't be recognized.
She is still an actress-
@@michaelavanduesen No they can't
@@Lifeless_Asian huh
@@michaelavanduesen They can't be good actors/resses and not have to do all of the learning of new skills for a movie, show, etc.
“Had to cut her own hair” She choose to, this girl makes it sound like she was forced to do everything and was treated so unfairly but its a bit exaggerated
As other people in the comments have pointed out... none of these are really strict rules... it's just acting... but also there was an extra rule shown in the thumb nail of this video that you never even mention in the actual video itself. It seemed to imply that Jenna couldn't copy anything previous actresses who played Wednesday had done. Which I guess is why the dance scene has her doing a completely new weird dance rather than the original Wednesday dance. I do think she took a lot of inspiration from Cristina Ricci's performance in the movies though.
I mean it's possible considering how Cristina Ricci was on the set herself but also thumbnails are meant to make us want to know stuff so we don't know if that's true or HOW true, because certain things can go to CERTAIN extents
Edit: ALSO, it's just the "Wednesday character" not full on "this person's acting" I feel
bruh
if u were suppose to do all those things dont u think that they actually stood up to what thumbnail says?
Both Lisa Loring and Jenna Ortega did the mashed potato so it wasn't a completely new dance, they were paying homage to the original tv show.
Agreed. A lot of what was done was artistic decisions, unlike rules in filming the MCU
Re: the cello playing- on the balcony, she was playing a Bach piece, which she actually learned to play reasonably well for 2 months crash course, but they overlaid other music onto the show. Musicians point out the discrepancies between music and movement, but many fail to look at the sheet music, too.
She wasn’t forced to cut her hair she actually suggested it as they were looking for a hairstyle Tim liked for Wednesday
jenna added her own touch to Wednesday, she wasn’t forced to not blink, she wanted to not blink
1 it's not a strict rule that's forced onto you, when you are the one bringing it up.. like cutting your hair
2. in 2 months time you cannot learn cello and for anyone that can play cello it's obvious. I love that Jenna put so much effort into one role but it takes years to actually learn an instrument or fencing or painting.. they learned the basics and to fool folks that don't know much about the stuff themselfs.
Don't get me wrong they all did incredibly well but I can play cello and it was obvious she wasn't playing that song
It appears that she's playing the sheet music. The overlayed music wasn't what she was playing. Is it possible that it wasn't sounding the way they had hoped? Most likely and why they chose to overlay audio. Honestly, so many movies and shows do this and most people don't notice so it doesn't matter. Us in the music field will notice. I still appreciate her taking the time to learn the basics, honestly...more people learning instruments, the better. I also appreciate it being part of this as well. I appreciate instruments in media.
Paintings are subjective though doesn’t have to take years to be decent
I taught myself to play the violin (same difficulty as cello) in two months. Granted, not as expressively as someone who plays for years, but in tune and with all the notes albeit without the ornamentation that someone who played for years would bring to it. It depends on your music background and ear for music. But yes, there's a reason why they overlaid another song on top of Jenna's and it's not just because the plot requires it.
The efford was there in the German, BUT: Only the first few words and the last sentence sounded actually german. It is a difficult language
Structurally it is so much better than English and it doesn’t break rules but it is hard bc of how sharp the sounds are to say and rlly long! For example drum in German is “thing u hit with stick” with out the spaces so it’s easy to learn the word and to spell it but it is 26 letters long! It’s basically a whole alphabet!
@@Existential_life_crisis the German word for drum is Trommel
German allows for many extremely long word instructions, but your example is wrong.
Unless they meant Schlagzeug which is hitting stuff
@@alexandramay4278 that's still not 26 letters long like they stated it was tho 🤔
Semi understanding the first few words, then suddenly nothing of it while reading the english subtitles nearly made me think a stroke had hit my brain's language sector... I just couldn't compute any of it xDD
I like her dedication to the role. The show was a good watch.
as a former instructor, I can definitely say that Wednesday’s martial arts skills. Translated very naturally to visual media. A lot of times, martial arts and movies. It’s just a dumb action scene but here it wasn’t just a great action scene, but she did it while sticking to the principles of the martial arts as she maintains her character as Wednesday. Being able to act and portray the complex principles that the martial arts represents is no easy feat. Truly, this girl is on a whole other level when it comes to learning and adapting her learned skills and then working with what she has adapted to create a believable picture for the viewers. when I used to send students to tournaments, there weren’t many students who could really give the judges the feel of being in a real fight. I would love to see this girl at the tournament because she would really make the judges, feel like something is going on here. I love this show from beginning to end.
Tim Burton might be strict but he has a reason! He makes some of the best films and series out there. He knows what he wants and the results are amazing
she' didn't need to cut her hair, she said that herself to do it.
I’m literally sooo obsessed with Jenna Ortega and Wednesday 😂
i hate how everyone thinks that romanians lacks in food variety and vegan options just because a vegan person went to the doctor and was told : you lack nutrients, eat some fish.... romanian here, i have vegan friends, part of our culture and religion is eating vegan 2 days every week, wednesday and friday, + the long fastings (not eating any animal product- meaning literally vegan)- some of them over a month before every big christian celebration, so yea... we have vegan options in most restaurants and takeout places. ( excepting the bbq ones and meat specific ones)
Thats seriously what bugged me too. Like you guys really didn’t think of google translate or have a translator on your budget? Literally every single restaurant and takeout place has at least ONE fully vegan option 🤦🏼♀️ There is not a single restaurant that doesn’t
I’m not sure I’ll be able to live normally knowing that Jenna/Wednesday has a better jawline then I ever could have.
Jenna is a very dedicated actress. I hope she continues to receive these amazing roles!
As a German I can guarantee you that she did not sound fluent at all and even as a native speaker I cannot tell you what she actually said. Apart from that she did a great performance with this series
Exactly my thoughts. I had to turn on english subtitles to finally understand the „german“ part 😂
Wednesday was not forced to cut her hair. The hair clips did not work so Jenna Ortega had said “ I can cut my hair” so she did
I’d be curious to see if this stays a series or if they make a few live action movies out of it.
Showing up on time for work should not be considered 'a strict rule'.
I think you failed to mention the most famous person on there to be on the set and to be in the Addams family movies as Wednesday Christina Ricci. I’m sure she has some kind of tough rules too, so it’s not just Morticia 🙄!
No need to roll your eyes gurl
Who’s that?
@@Sunshinebaby- Christina Ricci was the original Wednesday. She was from the old movies, but in the new Wednesday series she pls Ms. Thornhill.
@@denisdenis9559 I work with someone from Romania, and I was excited to tell her this was filmed there.
The video is about the cast of Wednesday, not the Addams family movies.
Not blinking wasn't in the script and Jenna added it herself, and the producers liked it so much that they made it a rule
When The Addams family came out I fell in love with Christina Ricci. I was obsessed with her for years after those 2 movies. Damn that was a while back lol
@@adrianbeechey5854 Huh?
I gotta be honest. Many people didn't understand the German part because she was speaking a more fancy German
Thing. That actor is amazing for doing what he did, and he not nearly gets enough credit!!!
Bravo Jenna Ortega. So many people loved this show.
loved the show, the cello was kinda convincing, at least better than most I've seen, and its impressive that Jenna spent so much time just for those scenes
Being on time is such a strict rule lol
I am German and I only understood the last sentence. I thought it was Danish or Norwegian until that last sentence.
Ehrlich man die hat einfach in Schreibschrift gesprochen war trotzdem süß
@@justlevi3253 🤣🤣🤣
das ist mal ein guter vergleich 👌
I speak Danish and that def did not sound like Danish or Norweigan🤣of course I do not understand German at all, so I could not say if it is okay or not 😅
its fucking hilarious, "yeah so this actor was told by there boss... that they had to show up on time" like yeah its called having a job
The role of not blinking wasn’t forced she just did it to make it lively yk and the cast noticed and said she could do it
She didn’t HAVE to cut her hair. She WANTED to.
Rules: she couldn’t do the full fencing scenes, walks with class and confidence, don’t move hands when walking, stiff posture, don’t blink and keep a sharp gaze, cut her own hair, learn German , stay in Romania while shooting,.
tim burton really know his craft.
The german part makes me feel sorry for her. Because she had to learn german, bur clearly _the Scriptwriter did not._ It isn't qute as offensive as some other 'german' sentences, and I even had high hopes for it in the beginning, but the sentence structure starts to go all over the place very soon and there is one sentence that I would never hav been able to understand without subtitles (As a native german speaker.) _BUT_ Her accent is very good. She clearly put the work in, I just wish _someone_ would have given these 5 Sentences to a german person to Rearrage the structure...
Can't wait for more episodes
Love this!
_Well, I ran out of snacks halfway through binging this series, so I had to trek out to the shop. It was a very turbulent time indeed._
This young lady is a good actor and she has a bright future ahead of her hopefully Hollywood doesn't mess her up in the head like they have done to alot of young actors
She didn’t have to cut her hair it was actually her own suggestion to hair and make up test crew and Tim burton
i like how they kept saying how tim was strict but i mean i dont think thats the case. Tim is just really passionate and wants the best for his work. and from what we have seen in his past projects and this series. Its obvious that it pays off extremely well.
I'm hoping we will see a story arc for Enid, A roll for Pugsley, more on her book that she wrote , a love interest with angst and difficult/easy interpersonal relationships.
It would be cool if Morticia comes to teach a class or be a substitute . Maybe she suffers a memory loss and doesn't remember so she starts wearing color .
.
My gurl jenna is the master of not blinking💅💅💅
Hi mine Nmse si SKYe
Every job has strict rules, unless you're a politician.
So much of this isn't even true. Jenna didn't "have" to cut her own hair, it was actually her own idea. She decided to use her own hair because none of the wigs that they presented her with really seemed to work like they all thought; so she said "Why not just use my own hair?". They asked "Are you sure?" and she said yes.
I am a little surprised there was no mention at all about the previous Wednesdey actor that also worked on this one (see 7:07). Although it may not be important for the actors i thought thats pretty cool
I just finished Wednesday. It was amazing and the plot twist at the end of who the "monster"/hyde, really was, is shocking!!
"Wednesday seems to be her true self when she's playing the cello", yea, as a cellist myself I can relate
You'd think with all the attention to detail they wouldn't have their actors fencing like they're using epee or foil. They're all shown with sabers, which is a slashing weapon. The fight could have been much more realistic if they'd used the weapon as it was intended rather than mixing fighting styles.
my bf did 6 years of profesional fencing, he stoped every few seconds to critique and explain to me how wrong it is, and how what they did was nothing like fencing, he could't believe the audacity 💀
Ortega did an amazing job and everyone else did a great job in their rolls as well especially all the characters in the town and school
She's so beautiful!
WEDNESDAY IS NOT UNEMOTIONAL, SHE JUST CAN'T EXPRESS HER EMOTIONS THE WAY NORMAL PEOPLE CAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Jenna definitely had it the hardest, acting in Wednesday I would never change my diet from being vegetarian even if I absolutely have to. Don't blame her, but I know with how strong my personal vegetarianism is I couldn't.
She didn't have to though, in Romania you can find vegan/vegetarian products in most places. Part of the culture is to eat vegan 2 days a week and 30-40 days before major holidays (a lot of younger people don't do this, but the option is still there). She just didn't do her research, or her team/crew didn't
You're telling me Catherine zeta Jones had to show up to work on time every day? Like, all of them?
I came here for this comment!
She didn't have to cut her hair, she suggested it
First of all wendesday added the detail to not blink when the director notice he told her to continue so she was not forced to blink (TYSM CZcams SHORTS FOR GİVİNG ME THİS KNOWLEDGE)
I think Jenna acted as the best Wednesday Addams ever. 🤩 She's a Good dancer and never blinks. She's one of the Greatest Actresses
After Christina Ricci
I still can't believe that Jenna accepted to not blink the whole series and also cut her hair but my question is did she magically get back or what cuz I'm pretty sure when the series is over she had her back
SORRY I FORGOT TO HAIR
Jenna is the cutest.
What does her being worth a lot of money have to to do with her being at WORK on time every day?? I don’t understand how that was a “challenge “ for her lol.
Best series ever
Wednesday dead ass stare is iconic.
Is it just me or does Victor Dorobantu, a.k.a. Thing, looks like Jenna herself 😂🤣
Jenna has stunning eyes
About the german, i am german. It is clear she did good in the time she had. As for the clearity, it was very hard to understand without the subtitles. It was however once i watched it the second time definitely the right words and grammar. Mostly. German is an extremely hard language to learn.
"She had to cut her own hair" the hairdresser tried not to for long time until Jenna said "just cut it"
they all worked so hard
jenna ortega: i learned to play the cello, learned german, learned how to fence, and wasn't allowed to blink
catherine zeta-jones: i had to be on time it was so hard
I love the mix of Sabrina, Hogwarts, and Addams. Fun.
The "Thing" actor, Victor Dorobantu, is hot. Hope he gets to play another character as well.
I don’t know who told you that Jenna is not playing the Cello melody
As a classically trained violinist
She is
It’s not her playing that we hear
But her movements are 100% correct
I was mesmerized when I learned this was planned for one single season!?
I was imagining 3, from the beginning anything else seems weird
These are all choices
Find some actual strict rules
Always funny when i see Actors saying its hard.. Don't get me wrong, filming films like The Revenant maybe was hell.. But to be honest.. Me as a Ex Soldier and now Nurse.. am laughing hard.
i think mabye the hand had some of the hardest work, but ofc also wednesday and Enid mabye, idk
She didn’t “NEED” to do anything the actors were given freedom but they choose to be professional and listen to Tim and she wanted to cut her hair Bec she cared about the film so she wasn’t forced to cut her hair and she was aloud to move her arms it was a suggestion from Tim so she listened
Jenna actually asked the hairdresser to cut her hair for the role
actors when they have to do their job😭
Yup
Omg I just realized I haven’t blinked this whole video 😂
What about Christina Ricci she was on the show, she was one of the original Wednesdays?? the whole cast was fab, Jenna did great!
How many more channels are you going to have?
I love Jenna and Catherine Zeta Jones. 😊❤
Joy Sunday looks SUPER FAMILIAR to me, but i havent seen anything else that she has been in. Maybe her smile reminds me of Gabrielle Union?
I love how everybody is copying everyone else. In regards to covering Wednesday
She was willing to cut her hair which was amazing and made the part
I have MAD respect for Tim making her take cello lessons before doing the scene. As an ex-violinist. There's nothing more painful than watching people fake playing a string instrument
The music was actually real and she did it perfectly, there are some people on tiktok that are very good at the cello and it is almost the same
I’ve heard Jenna Ortega speak a bunch and… Is it still impressing acting if she is already so monotone in her real life?
In the first episode, Wednesday plays "Paint it Black" by the Rolling Stones on her Cello. However, the music on her stand is clearly the Prelude to J.S. Bach's first Cello Suite.
From 00:01 "not blinking at all" to 00:19 *actually blinking*. Well she did actually managed to not blink a whole 18 seconds. =)
Ikr lol
Well, she said they were already a few weeks into shooting when he told her not to blink. There's probably a lot of footage, especially in the earlier episodes, of her blinking.
I THINK I SAW WEDNESDAY BLINK AT 0:19
Well yeah because she didn't not blink the WHOLE show. She said she tried not to blink.
“From not being able to blink” in the intro, she chose that and she liked that so he told her to continue it
