Universal newsreel editor Charles E. Ford was responsible for this filmed record of James Dannaldson's hunting expedition into the jungles of the Amazon River. The film is jam-packed with wild-animal footage, including a pulse-pounding attack by a 28-foot anaconda. The music for Jacare was provided by no less than Miklos Rosza!

I spent three years living and working in Colombia, three years in Guatemala, three years in Mexico, and shorter stints in Honduras, Costa Rica, and Panama. Sadly, none of what you see in this video exists today as it did during this filming. For example; Medellin, Colombia, was a slice of Heaven. Beautiful birds, flowers, trees, and the most marvelous and colorful insects you'd ever imagine. The weather - perfect. Today, it resembles New York City. When I left in 2004, there were seventy high-rise apartment buildings going up in and around El Poblado - a once fabulous neighborhood with beautiful vistas. No more. Guatemala is turning into a huge trash heap. Mexico is long gone. Traditional foods and homemade salsas - gone. McDonald's rules.

What years were you in these different countries? Mexico's traditional foods gone? That doesn't sound correct. Could you be more specific about Guatemala? And what is the reason for changes of this kind? Thank you.
