"The next dish is gaeng sum - a sour orange curry over freshwater fish with some tamarind leaves," he said - casually.

Am I the only one who expected this recipe to contain sour oranges....?

In my variety of Thai language we call 'sour tamarind' that is used for cooking as Som Makham, or 'orange tamarind', in contrast with sweet tamarind, or Makham Wan, that can be eaten alone as fruit. (Orange is called 'Som' in Thai.)
