    i wish reviewers would showcase performances of real programs and apps because those benchmark scores are just numbers.
    and please, don't give excuses about this being a "mobile device" so I shouldn't expect to run productivity programs on this because if that is the case, then this is no better than getting a tablet or heck my smartphone.
    For this kind of device, I expect to be able to do more than just watch videos and surf the internet.

      Just because it's running Windows doesn't mean it's made to be used like a hardcore gaming PC. Maybe you're just not the demographic for these kind of products. Get a laptop with a dedicated GPU instead, maybe the Surface Book, if you're into the whole premium hardware with detachable touchscreen experience.

    I just love the structure of review so much.
    The reviewer was fair in mentioning it a "boring device". I agreed to most of the things he pointed out.
    I myself just got the device recently passed down from a friend though it still in mint condition. After a couple weeks of light use, I reckon it's safe to say that comparing Book2 to SF pro6 is quite misleading.
    I can give you some examples why you shouldn't buy it even at really cheap price.
    * With snapdragon and 4GB RAM, most light sketch, paint apps like (Medibang, Ibis Paint, Krita...) is not supported. SS did a brilliant job including Wacom similar stylus, but for what with absence of software?
    * You better turn off the auto-update whatsoever, or the device just put itself into a mode that it lock you out. I tried to get access to the log-in screen with no success. So you need to hard reset by holding down volume + power for...10 secs or more.
    * In terms of web surfing experience, I think this device plus Edge is perfect for users from the 90s. Staring at the continuously rotating wheel while waiting for a new tab opened is so relaxing!
    The hardware is awesome, can't complain. I'd say it's a waste of design and hardware. The hardware must be frustrating itself to go with this.
    If you ask me if it's worth to buy, I'd say you should go for something with higher performance.

      Single Core means a lot when loading Windows' heavy UX. Only on Android can it get by. It's going to stutter a lot that's what I'm guessing. Apple's chips are a different story though, they easily rival a mobile Core i5 of 8 gen from Intel. With the new A12, maybe we can expect even more. Hoping they would do their Mac's CPU in a couple of years, Intel is slow to move on it seems.

    • @ducminhduong9873
      @ducminhduong9873 Před 5 lety

      @Remy Desrochers im referring to the Single core performance. That of the A12 is twice what is seen on a SD. Emulation surely is a problem, but stuttering usually is caused by a core overload and has to be reset in order to boot up a process.

    • @ducminhduong9873
      @ducminhduong9873 Před 5 lety

      @Remy Desrochers easy enough to compare using specsheets, but just looking up benchmarks on Geekbench can tell you a story. The code supports all platforms and sticks to a custom sourcecode to ensure results are comparable, or at least, close to that across different platform. It indicates single-core performance of the A12 to be 5000 and multi-core to be 12000. That is what you typically get with an i7-8550U. The Snapdragon scores barely 2000 on single-core and around 7000 on multi-core. Emulation will probably drop it down a notch, but enough for it to be extremely usable. A card's performance depends on the architecture inside and not the boost clock alone. They can overclock via software however they want, but the card has to be fine-tuned through hardware processes.

    I was almost mad that I just bought a Surface pro 6 instead of this.
    -Super AMOLED
    -Not 1 USB C but 2!!!
    -Claimed 20 hour battery life
    -S Pen features on Windows 10
    -Came w/ said Pen and the Type Cover
    -LTE...
    But after watching til the end, I'm not mad anymore.
    -Only 4gb of ram
    -Only 128gb of storage and micro SD isn't hot-swappable
    -No full size USB A
    -Lightweight version of windows
    -Cheap, plasticy type cover
    -Weak magnet for the pen means you'll lose it...should have one upped Microsoft by make an internal carrier for it like in the Note series
    I use my surface as an extra-portal, lightweight version of my workstation. I still like to have everything open at once and still like to open 30-40 tabs when web browsing...my surface 6 delivers and doesn't slow me down, it's a total asset even if it doesn't have USB C or Onboard LTE. My surface can stand alone on a business trip out of town, if I had this galaxy, I probably need to take a full size laptop along also.

    • @EspHack
      @EspHack Před 5 lety +1

      OLEDs are HDR almost by nature, at least in contrast but not necessarily on color depth, remember all the complains about early OLED phones and their "oversaturated" colors? more like OS too dumb to make use of wider color-contrast ranges, same as w10 does with its HDR mode today, everything gets dull so your white mouse doesnt leave you blind

    • @kresimircosic6158
      @kresimircosic6158 Před 5 lety

      @@EspHack
      LED has nothing to do with HDR. Light Emitting Diodes is a way of producing light, HDR is a software application. To render an image on the screen, due to high luminosity of HDR capable software, the emitter needs to tone map the signals because HDR compliant devices today are still not able to render the full range of visuals it offers.
      For example I remember when GT Sport was coming out, they spent 4, 5 years developing just the HDR adaption in the game. And when the game came out, it could render the visuals of 10 000 nits. At that time the best of the best TVs, 8k Sony could barely produce 10 000 nits. So the game literally can look better today than most people think. Not to mention they are using a 'fake' ray tracing technique that Nvidia has pushed on the new cards this year. Ray tracing is another ball game though, I do not see that tech being used in households for a decade at least still, and it has been developed for a decade already or so.

I was looking forward to the next generation. I was hoping for another similar device with an intel processor, with the updated keyboard, and a better hinge. Should you buy?
    If you are high roller, just go for it.
    If you have not so much money, you should leave it. Windows is trying the Windows 10 ARM by now.
    It is like an open-beta, Microsoft will support it IF the ecosystem grows: More Apps, More Users, Move Vendors, More Developers.
    But if you asked me, is it worth it to try?
    I'll say go for it (with some risk).
    One major risk: No further support like Windows RT (Do not forget, it was basicly ARM processor inside with Windows 8 instead of 10)
    Minor risk: Long time to fix the bug since it isn't popular yet and with heavy customization of Samsung... it is double the effort.

    I think with its limitations this is a poor value device. Only 4gb RAM is an insult in 2018 and for those that like to keep their stuff 3-5 years a deal breaker. These devices the most important aspect is the keyboard and that looks cheap and for £1000 not right. The advantage of these devices apart from always on is the battery life and 50% more is not enough to justify the performance downgrade.
    The rest of the package is getting there but the fundamentals are fails and that makes it still not a good choice in today’s market.

    I hear complaints about not enough RAM. Perhaps the issue is lack of understanding Windows. Unlike Android, you can control memory in Windows. Or more specifically the virtual memory, i.e. paging file. I am a software engineer for over 30 years. I use quite a bit of software at any given time. I just bought the Book 2 and am actually quite amazed. What I did was to increase the paging by setting it manually to the C drive and set the minimum to 8 GB and max to 32 GB. Well that still leaves about 70-80 GB for applications. I bought a micro SD card which I will use for storage of any large programs and any files, movies, pictures, etc. With S mode turned off I was able to successfully install and use Visual Studio 2017. That is no minor feat as VS 2017 uses a lot of resources including RAM. With that running one instance and running 3 instances of VS Code, I am showing that virtual memory is using around 4-5 GB and the physical RAM is around 3-4 GB. Sounds like its maxed right? No. I still have plenty left in virtual. Bear in mind that the SSD on this device is nearly as fast as your RAM. When running the big programs there is some lag compared to my mobile workstation which has 32 GB physical and an i7, it is barely noticeable. I would however not suggest heavy video editing as this is not only an issue of RAM but CPU throughput which is likely to be significantly lower than an i7.

    I really think having tested the galaxy book 2 the 1 is better since i got the one with Windows Pro and 256 storage and 8 GB I found the 2 a bit slower so I return it due to poor performance and got my money back. to anyone wanting to upgrade just don't 4 GB for a windows device is not enough. until Sumsung gets out the book 3 where they include 8 GB or more don't get any where near the book 2 you will be very disappointed.

    It's hard to tell the real technical capability from this video. I want to get a tablet that can support a full python development. In particular, it must be able to support the speech recognition package. The iPad Air 2 does not, because its processor architecture is not capable of doing this. This comes with Windows 10 S which probably does not support WSL (Windows System for Linux). Then let's say you upgrade it Windows 10 Pro. Will the snapdragon architecture support the python package I need, which I know would be supported with Intel i5?

    I absolutely agree about the pen support on the Note 8 and 9. They are FAR superior to the pen and touchscreen on the Surface Book, whichever I also own. The pen latency on the Surface line is quite noticeable. That's where Samsung excels. I just don't know why they hobbled this with subpar specs.

    I still prefer the design concept of Galaxy Book 10.1.. A bit more handy and convenient for travel and light use.. Off course Snapdragon 850 is going to be a plus point even compared to i7.. I presume more battery effecient.. But how about the cooling system especially during heavy downloading and upgrade processes?? I realized that both my i7 Asus transformer 3 pro and Galaxy book get overheated... Is there a fan for cooling? I don't see fins!!! I like the flippy origami attached keyboard stand than the kick off stand with the detachable keyboard.. It's a bit more firm than the Surface style keyboard
