Well, it does have a ton of weight over the rear axle. Watch it squat. Daddy knows how to set it up to hook. Driver sure but really, he sprayed it. See the go baby go button on the shifter knob?
Doubt he sprayed and if he did it would be maybe a 250 shot at best. He's a bracket racer. Most likely the button on his shifter is being used for his transbrake.

That dad is a true old school drag racer. Lots of respect, quickly learned the road and temps, and modified the car on the spot to make it fly after a couple passes
And trusted the other guy's word about the launch control! You can tell he's been doing this for a while.
Pops name is Kevin, I've raced him several times in NHRA Super Gas back in the day. He's a great racer, one of the ones you took pride in beating.. If you know grandpa Dave, Who was inducted into the motorsports hall of fame, you know exactly who this motorsports family is... Big Mac!

@@apashe974 it's a delay box used for top bulb bracket racing.
So on a Christmas tree for drag racing you let go of the transbrake button when the first amber light comes on. Then the delay box will delay the car leaving until whatever time the driver put in the box runs out. The goal being to have the car leave exactly when the green light is coming on.

That McLaren is nice and all, but I'll tell you this, if I spent $400k on a car and it gave me that much trouble with launch control and track mode, I'd be taking that shit back to the dealership asap.

Such a good episode. Mclaren driver was a good sport and went out with dignity. So pumped to nads and dan race!!!
Sucks for the McLaren, the only good race for him was when launch control worked. But a twin turbo is also going to get heat soaked, whereas an NA car isn't affected by it as much. Last race proves it, got the hit and didn't have the power to reel in the wagon after he got passed.
And Kudos to the guy driving the Draggin' Wagon, dude can race. I guess that's all that launch experience doing the bracket racing, really sharpens up your reaction time.Well Done

Aside from the second round where it should have been heads up. And aside from the third round where they already know the McLaren has no launch control again. A waste of a good race, cuz the McLaren is slightly faster. Top 9's any day.

Against a house payment car that makes more power... less weight. Better trans. Better steering. Better track compatibility. Better aero. Luxury seats. Interior design. Air ventilation. A/c!!... loses to something you can build in ur garage... yeah no shame.

The 765 runs 9.8-9.9 sec 1/4 mile completely stock… low 9s with a sticky tire. The best time for that wagon is high 9s.
Plus, that wagon isn’t “stripped”. It has its full interior (front and rear bench seats, dash, door panels, carpet, rear cargo trim, etc). Also, for “purpose built”, all it has is a couple cheap bolt on suspension parts (Summit being the cheap “generic” brand, essentially like Walmart cola). With the cheap 3 way shocks, it can easily be switched to 50/50 and cruise the street with no issues.
Plus, the wagon has less power and more weight. The 765 even has a traction advantage, thanks to being mid engine and having 305mm (12”) wide tires. This is a non-debatable point since only the wagon broke loose thanks to being nose heavy and having 9” wide slicks.

Most races in Europe have something called 'corners'. The wagon is fast in a straight line , but if it was a race, like any racing in europe , then the wagon would still be on the way to the bar, while the McLaren , would be already sitting at the bar ordering his second pint.

That wagon looks so clean set. Like a clock, no issues with gears, engine, etc. With complete original internal, beautiful car.
Also the bonus round backfired for the McLaren, the supercar owner is not too happy about the launch control being delayed by the software.
That was a pleasant surprise. I thought for sure the McLaren would mop up, but a well-thought-out drag racer is a very fast beast in a straight line. It launched well, and its driver knew what he was doing. Well played!
We should Just appriciate the reaction time of the driver the fridge was insane, it matches the insane lunch and its just perfect...

My grandfather had a 1978 Ford Fairmont that had a naturally aspirated 302 shoehorned into it at the factory, and that thing had insane acceleration without any tuning at all. Station wagons are underrated as performance cars :)

"660 hp" - I wouldn't trust a drag racers figures, they tend to sandbag.
lt lifts the front wheels on a not ideal surface, that thing hooks and hauls ass, probably more than those 660hp, or he meant at the wheels, while the other had 750hp crank on regular tires.
@@Finnspin_unicycles you just saw the difference between a car built and set up purely for acceleration and one built and set up more for corners. The rate that the McLaren was reeling in on the Malibu shows the hp of each is probably accurite enough.

Confusing outcome, but lots of fun watching. The 765LT is a mid 9 second car in the 1/4 mile.. The wagon "said" he was only low 10's... so either the wagon guy was lying like crazy or something is off with the 765.... (yes I know he wasn't on launch control for 2 runs but did get the hit so...)
Having no idea who wins this, 45 seconds in, if you said i could walk away with either one of these... I'm taking the wagon every damn time.

I love wagons man! I have an'07 Ford Focus wagon with a built 2.5, 5-speed swap, cams, ported/polished, header, full aftermarket exhaust, test pipe, 91 tune, you name it. N/A all motor and 2520 pounds with me in it with 1/2 tank gas. Looks completely unassuming other than wheels/tires and lowering springs. I pissed off a few scat-paks and I got mopped by a Camaro with full bolt-ons.

@@Elmo6855 you should check out that new tesla model S plaid or whatever its called. It has a 0-60 in under 2 seconds because of a weird launch control but to activate it, it takes like 8 minutes i think because is has to warm/cool the different components first. Kinda pointless at that point

One of the best episodes yet. Can someone with more supercar knowledge than me explain why the McLaren couldn't use launch control every time? Seems you pay that much for a car that feature should work anytime you want it to. That wagon is awesome.
It could have launched every time, the owner just doesn't know how to start it up. It's a little sad but there tends not to be a great correlation between people who can afford these cars and people who can drive them well. It's even worse with hypercars

That dude in the Malibu killed it. You could tell he was a drag racer because when they let the McLaren have the hit, he reacted like he was going off the tree at the strip. Great driving from him.

All in all it was good. The wagon was pretty impressive but at the same time the guy in the 765 really had no idea how to launch his car. If it were Brooks or a really driver would’ve been a totally different story.

+Hoonigan I learned about bracket racing from DoorSlammers 2. It's basically a drag race where two cars of uneven power go head to head and the slower car gets to take off first while the more powerful car chases. Both drivers dial in a time and if you run faster or slower than the time you set; you lose. Also; the mega 400 is a delay box. It delays the launch of the car till the bottom yellow bulb lights up so you get quicker reaction times instead of launching it from the bottom bulb yourself.

My first car was an 83 Pontiac Bonneville Wagon, always wanted to build it up to be a monster wagon like this. Been 20 years and I still regret selling it.
You know, I would really like to see a this vs that roadcourse series. I think it would make for a bunch of really cool match-ups.
I think it would be cool but I feel like "best driver" can win with way worse cars like that. It's also true in drag racing for sure but I think it's even more true for other kinds of racing as far as making a slower car best a faster one

Fantastic episode! Loving the cars, drivers and the jokes! Good sportsmanship all around and good times. This also showed why I love older cars over the new tech even though it's freaking lovely to have, but when a computer tells you that you can't drive/use your car the way you want to, that is a major no no for me :D

Both drivers dial in a time and if you run faster or slower than the time you set; you lose.
You can run slower than your dial in. You lose if you break out.
Can we just appreciate that a n/a V8 beat the McLaren? Insane!
That Malibu driver won it, way more experience and skill, the Malibu is freaking awesome too. The McLaren driver let that car down big time, didn't know how to drive it at all.
