The way they used the word ‘tear’ is really clever because it is a heteronym meaning not only does it rhyme with ‘fear’ but it also has two different meanings. ‘Tear’ as in to rip and ‘tear’ as in to cry. That’s why Suga pronounces it differently to RM! Really smart use of language- especially as it’s not their first language

Idk if y'all noticed but there is multiple layers within the hook alone. So RM says Tear (as in crying), Suga said Tear (as in ripping apart), and then of course J-hope says fear so its sort of transition of what you go through in a breakup. The whole album is filled with multi-layered wordplay. I hope you guys listen to the whole thing! The production is stunning and if anything proves that the rap line of BTS can literally rap to anything, I cant wait for you guys to get into the vocal line too because they are incredibly gifted.

Shassidy ASMR Aviles it’s not supposed to be a break up song tho. It’s supposed to show self conflict and wearing two different masks, and having to bear the facade of both your real self and the self that you present to others.
omg i just realized that Suga meant that kind of "tear"! I always thought it was just a stylish way of saying tear (and also bcos the sentence is gramatically wrong since it's a verb but nvm that's just the grammar nazi in me speaking). I guess it was in my subconscious all along but i only realized it now! Thank you! I've seen this song in a new perspective once again!
I think its - as are many BTS songs - open to interpretation. Fake Love is such a song as well. On the one hand it can be Fake Love between two people or Fake Love towards yourself (RM implied the I, ME, SELF theory by Mead). So Outro: Tear can have them talk about break ups they went through (we know of J-hope that his ex left him for another dude) or about, as you said, their self conflict. It is open to the listener to interpret it in the way they connect the most with it. =D
Kamikazekatze true, i think no one should deem one interpretation as "the best" or the "right one" because honestly it depends on how the person perceives it and one factor is how they relate with it, in a way. For example, a person going through a breakup would relate to this best if they choose to listen to this as a breakup song. All interpretations have equal depth to them

I saw someone on Twitter saying that they were like the Powerpuff Girls 😭😂 RM is Blossom, the calm and smart leader; Suga is Buttercup, agressive, witty, sharped tongued but lowkey sensitive and J-Hope is Bubbles; bubbly, friendly, has the power to lift everyone's mood up with his laugh alone while also being very strong, but not needing to show it as often. It's a silly analogy but it makes so much sense lmaooo

Fyi this has been said countless times before but bts really has the only legit rapline in Kpop. I got into Kpop thinking all the rap lines would go as hard as they do but none of them come close. Realizing this really made me admire that they have a genuine passion as for rap. Thnx for the reaction, cuz I love seeing people take their time to appreciate their music

I think it'll help a lot with their understanding of BTS' backgrounds and see them more as artists that are separate from K-Pop (since the K-Pop industry literally shit on them for being a group from a small company, cut them out from broadcasts, used them as fillers for other groups when others don't show/are late, make fun of their style, etc. and just generally mistreated and discredited them for the fact that they aren't from The Big 3 companies (SM, YG, JYP) that generally manipulate the whole Korean entertainment industry and therefore "aren't even worth their time") rather than always categorizing them as one. I can speak this for myself since I am Korean and have seen BTS be treated as nothing more than a commodity and a rag by this industry in the past (at least, until they became big, but they still had to fight every single damn day from this mistreatment because there's always still the prejudice from them). BTS is now a force to be reckoned with since they _literally_ overcame all odds and the Korean entertainment industry can't even dare pull the shit they did in the past but it'd be great for your friends to be aware of BTS' history and background. Advantages of pausing songs or music videos when it's your first time of listening or watching are that you can have time to express what you feel or think about what you're listening to/watching. I really like that, although many people do not like when reactors pause videos, you have impressive thoughts about BTS' creations, such as recognizing "layers" or the effect music has on people although it's in a different language. Someone probably already recommended this but you mentioned something about Suga being hurt, if you want to know more about that you should listen to some of his solo songs such as '140503 at dawn' or 'the last' which he put out under the name Agust D. In these songs he talks about the social phobia, anxiety and depression he suffered from and the way he talks about it and phrases it will hit you hard, especially if you've suffered from it yourself
There is also First Love that is really emotional from him. That's why Suga is my bias and getting to take the place of my UB.

Just for you know this song is not a romantic one, even when you can understand it as one but remember that is the Outro for Love Yourself so they made the lyrics vague enough for you to listen like a song to yourself about yourself its awesome, also listen closely the way RM and Suga pronounce "Tear" in the chorus, RM took the meaning of like the tear: the one you cry and the verse is about that but Yoongi took the approach of tear something up and again his verse is more on that line, hope it help ;)! I don’t know if anyone else explained this, but RM explained this song saying that since in English, tear has different meanings depending on the pronunciation, RM wrote his part thinking about the definition of tears as in crying while Suga’s part was based on the other definition of tear as in ripping something apart. That’s why J-Hope’s verse said “Why does it flow? Why does it get torn?” it was reflecting that different meanings of tear. I just thought that was really interesting to me. :)

Cyphers were created to express their anger about the people who put them down and tried to ruin their dreams or the haters. part 4 was really the last one because they’ve finally reached a point where they have no more anger, they’ve overcome the odds and are living their dreams, there’s no need to care about the haters anymore.
