@@graciemcmullen4664 I actually thought about this the other day and went looking for it. Season 3, Episode 12 "Nuts". The interaction between Alan and Denise is golden in this episode.
Alan Shore could be a perverted, sleazy slime ball at times but he was a brilliant lawyer and a good friend. To this day I have to commend the writers of this show for maintaining consistency with the characters and not destroying them or screwing them over like other shows tend to do. Alan Shore, who was my favorite character on this show remained the same during all five seasons and that is how it should be done. Sure... allow the characters to have some degree of growth and maturity but at the same time just don't crap all over them by making them do things completely out of character.
this was not perverted sleazy slime ball; this was 'The Master' at work if you catch my Freudian drift. This was two Mutual Masters (both Denise and Shore are highly dominate people) playing the dominance game between each other. The fact Shore was: 1. Willing to walk away (2:24), while she was inviting [her eyes] (2:19)- meant he won the overall dominance game and that's why Denise got so horned up for him in the end (2:45). He had dominion over her. he truly is the Master: he's the best of the best of the Boston lawyers (best lawyers in the world congregate in Boston); and was willing to walk away from Denise, who- is like top 0.000001% sexual market value attractive. So the fact he's willing to walk away from her really showed, this guy actually is a, if not THE: dominant mother fucker - so then she became enraptured (2:45). Tragically: since Alan lost his first/only wife to something tragic (they never say) something like a suicide probably, maybe a freak car crash; he's too afraid to ever make a meaningful connection with any woman again, because he's too afraid of the hurt of heartbreak and loss. That's why SPOILERS FOR END OF SERIES, in the end series episode, the one person who he does have that meaningful connection with; enough to get married to; is his completely plutonic best friend **male** Denny Crane. But that's there to show Alan's complete rejection of female companionship. Which comes from a tragedy: suicide or some freak death. That's why, at the end of this clip, he doesn't pursue Denise. As much as he *wants* to Denise. He knows he's at risk of falling in love with her, that's why he doesn't actually take it any further. The tragic loss and heartbreak in his character means now he only plays the 'sex game' purely for 0 connection (all his other sexual relations are pure fvccking[no 'making love'/kissing]. he doesn't play it for love or connection anymore- he just plays it to "Fvck". So we're left with the question: has he really "Mastered" love? if he's too afraid to even pursue it? His actions show he clearly is a dominant Master- he gets top 0.00001% girls DTF- but? does his absolute dominant Master actions prove he's a Master if he's too afraid to fall in love? Doesn't that prove he's slave to the cruel mistress of heartbreak through death. Which is the reality: Even the strongest and most dominant Master will, eventually, fall slave to the cruel mistress Mother Nature when she invariably comes knocking when it's our most loved one's time to pass. Even Kanye considered suicide when his "mama passed; suicide what kinda talk is that". Kanye is one WELL HUNG Master Mother fucker: billionaire selfmade brilliant. Proof that I'm not just making this up from the art that was shown, that reality mirrors this, what I'm saying, as to which I believe is fact.
