DEVACURL RUINED MY HAIR | MY HAIR LOSS STORY

  • Hello everyone! Today's video is extremely serious, and I honestly didn't notice how actually serious it was while I was filming, until I joined a Facebook group of 20,000 + girls/guys going through the exact same thing! If you are planning on getting a diva cut, have used diva curl products, or are currently using them, STOP. PLEASE. Watch this video before making any decisions!
    ***** I want to point out, if it isn’t clear in my video, the Deva CUT isn’t the problem, the Deva Curl PRODUCTS are the problem*****
    Also, I am not wearing a beanie because I have bald spots or anything, my hair is actually quite normal, thankfully, because I only used their products twice, but my heart feels so much for the people who used their products everyday. If this is what happened to me after using their products TWICE, I could only imagine what can happen to people who use them everyday for years at a time! :((( If you are suffering damage from DevaCurl, I am so so sorry! We have all been fooled and deceived.
    LMK if you have any questions, comments, or concerns!

  • @brb4000
    @brb4000 Před 4 lety +87

    I think when you do that with the scissors, you're actually scraping off the cuticle of the hair. Cheap hair extensions are made by scraping/chemically removing the cuticle so that it doesn't matter which direction the hair goes (good hair extensions keep the cuticle and all the hair cuticle has to be facing the same way in order for it not to be frizzy and tangled)
    Regardless, I totally believe that these products either weren't stored properly in distribution or that they do cause too much buildup and that's causing the issues. Good luck to you and thanks for sharing your story!

    This has been like when you’re dating a guy that so many people are giving you side eye about, but you ignore them because you LOVE him so much. And you ignore the fact that you have to beg him to make time for you, and he puts his phone down the minute you walk in the room, but you convince yourself that you’re just imaging things. Then you finally realize that it’s not just you and he’s always been a narcissistic, gaslighting asshole. And then when you try to talk to your “friends” about it, they have to really stop themselves from saying “I told you so” and are “supportive.” Yep, this has been nuts.

And some people in the curly community couldn’t give two shits about what’s going on because they still use Devacurl and haven’t had any negative side effects. Or there are some people saying the products were too expensive and they dodged a bullet, which is really insensitive and is basically like saying we got what we deserved for spending more money on our hair care products.

    I'm sorry you had to go through you went through. I stuck to the Shea Moisture only because the price of the Devacurl was out of my budget. I saw some more videos like this one and know about the lawsuits. First Devacurl said they would have their products independently tested (cheaper than recalling their products by far) and they are now having a 30% off final sale. There is so much going on with Devacurl and so many folks not using it anymore, I think I'm going to actually buy stock in products that I believe former Devacurl users will be using now. I hope the beauty industry takes a heavy lesson on this one.

    Hey girl, I wouldn't freak cause the talk dirty app is really misleading. If a product has perfume/fragrance...which most do, they put them in the red zone!! I deleted it an hour after I downloaded it. Chemicals aren't bad for you, and natural isn't necessarily good. I used the DevaCurl line for 8 years, and loved it for 6. Two years ago something went wrong with the formula (the curl ninja said it was a storage issue causing them to be tainted) and I noticed I had an oily scalp, dandruff, dry ends, and it was so frustrating. So for the last two years I've been using a drugstore shampoo and DevaCurl conditioner with the Ultra Defining gel. My scalp was better but my curls were NON EXISTENT, but again like all of us we think oh it's my diet or I'm stressed or it's my pillow. And then all this controversy came out and I'm so shocked and hurt. Threw away the rest of my DevaCurl stuff, and it sucks cuz they used to work, they used to be amazing and now they're ruining women's lives. My advise is to try as many curl hair products as possible (which is what i have to do now cuz i'm literally lost, and also my stylist recommended a few) and start all over again, heal the scalp, see what works best for you. Hopefully your hair grows out and your scalp heals!

      @xtina baaae Same here! Saw all the red 8's for DC in the app, and then clicked to see what was offensive. It indicated was only the fragrance (and the DC prods i've used have barely any noticeable fragrance.) Then I saw in a disclaimer in the app that the developer(s) of the app receive money for their evaluations. Immediately deleted it. Still, I was a long-time DC user and developed serious issues that are going away now that i've stopped. Definitely something changed in last year or so. However, I don't think it's plausible to still have DC build-up from only two uses done months or weeks ago. That's stretching credulity.

      Maybe you stress out a lot

      Not enough sleep

    My hair fell out almost two years ago from a L’Occitane conditioner I’d used for years. There’s a shampoo from Vichy, a French pharmacy brand, that’s especially for people who are experiencing hair loss, I used that after it just happened and it helped. My hair was really straight and I lost about half of it, but what I got back is wavy, so I’m still not able to wear my hair loose until it’s grown out. It’s taking a while to get it fixed, but I’m so relieved to have hair again. I hope yours will start to grow again soon as well. If your scalp is still itchy, maybe a menthol shampoo would help. I’m not sure as I’m no doctor, but if the treatment has done something to the health of your scalp and there’s an imbalance that’s made it possible for the fungi we naturally have in our body to grow more than they should a menthol product could help out with that.

    The few haircuts wouldn’t have caused all of that damage you’ve experienced, I don’t believe at least. I think excessive DevaCurl use would for sure, as it is and has for many. Before I buy any products for my 2c/3c hair - I always have to check the ingredients list (not just what it says on the front of the bottles!) you can look up if products are safe (or cg approved) on isitcg.com or curlsbot.com ! Shea Moisture has been my go-to for a year now ♥️ I just wish you found out earlier, girl!

    I used the low poo range for a month or so when I began leaving my hair natural and I hated it I could tell there was build up on my hair it never ever felt clean. I stopped using it because I hated how my hair felt and just switched back to a normal drug store shampoo/conditioners and my hair is completely healthy and my waves are soft and full. There's thing whole thing these days that natural is better with beauty products but it's so not the case, these manufactured ingredients serve a purpose in products like actually cleaning and conditioning and stabilising other ingredients. It's a shame so many people are having problems, I'm really glad I only used DC for a few weeks. I'[m sure your hair will recover soon enough :)

    I sure hope you can recover! When you’re using the THINK DIRTY app, I’ve heard that fragrance will bump the product into the “dirty” category. That’s because many people are highly sensitive to fragrance. If you’re not, maybe the product wouldn’t bother you. Shea Moisture can be VERY heavy especially for looser curl patterns. Check out Jessicurl, BounceCurl, Curls, Innersense, Inahsi...there are so many that are made from pure ingredients. I’ve only been using the DC conditioner and experiencing some of the same things. They used to be good but not anymore. I’m done with them!

    Shampoo isn’t the enemy. I learned that. You have to clean your hair and anything but soap on your head isn’t a good solution. Your scalp is alive. You have to clean it or else those hairs will fall right out and your poor scalp, just injured. Even cowashes can’t replace a shampoo.

  • @kierstenhoffman3075
    @kierstenhoffman3075 Před 4 lety +1

    Deva cuts do not ruin your hair, the products that your stylest uses on your hair is what ruins it. Go and get a deva curl cut, and then explain to the stylest that you do not want deva curl products used in your hair. There are many stylests out there that are curly hair cut certified, but they run their own salon so they have many additional products, not just devacurl, which is what you would be limited to if you went a devacurl salon. I had a deva curl hair cut and my stylest did not use deva curl products in my hair and it was the best thing that happened to my hair.
    Also, SOME Shea moisture products are rated well in the ThinkDirty app, NOT all of them, so make sure you are paying attention to that. If you do decide to use Shea Moisture in your hair, good for you it's a great brand I love it, but you need to start clarifying your hair more reguraly than you used to, if you did at all. Shea Moisture products have heavy oils and butters in them like coconut oil and Shea butter. Those do not wash out with your typical shampoo and they build up very quickly. It won't be long before your curls will be heavy, greasy, flat and frizzy and you will be frusturated all over again.
    I never had deva curl products used in my hair ever, but I had considered buying them for a long time. I never did because they were super expensive. I am so sorry to all you curly girls out there who are experiencing this kind of pain.

    Some products are flagged only for Fragrance. There are some really great brands that have an 8 all because of Fragrance. If you click and read, everything else is green but would be flagged for fragrance. You can't really run away from all fragrance when what said products are made out of has their own natural fragrance. DC never felt right in my hair, and I had a stylist pushing it at me. She claimed my hair was dry from build-up, and whatever products I was using outside of DC was causing it to be dry and stiff. Mind you, while she said this looking through my hair, I had DC in my hair, and I found that laughable. I told her, DC was in my hair, and she looked like she didn't believe me. I told her I wouldn't be buying it anymore, while she was trying to push me to buy their new leave-in and curl cream that's meant to "stretch" your hair. I told her no. I had her wash my hair and do a stand-alone treatment of Olaplex, after doing a trim and had her put in a deep conditioner in and went home with my hair still wet with said conditioner in it. When I got home, I rinsed my hair and styled my hair with products that worked and felt so much better for my hair than DC. I thanked god til this day, that I didn't constantly use DC, and DC alone. That I had them pushed back, and barely reached for them. At some point, I just threw them out, and this was way before all of these claims started surfacing. I also never went back to that stylist and this is a stylist I started going to for a few months. I am now color-treated, and my hair is so healthy, with a new stylist and they do not use DC. Thank god. She tells me every time, she can't believe how strong my hair is even with it being color-treated. I'm so thankful that I have stubborn hair that doesn't take to everything so easily. Try doing some Olaplex treatments, it isn't only for us color girls.

      @@freyamariano106 My main two favorite lines are She Moisture and Camille Rose. They work so well in my hair. Now that I am color-treated, I wash my hair 2x a week. The middle day, however, I am more like rinsing my hair and doing a little 5 -minute deep conditioning. I learned that its best to try and deep condition 2x a week if possible even while having virgin hair. On my real wash day, I shampoo and do deep treatments like Olaplex, Fanola, and Briogeo don't despair, repair and depending on the day of the month, I will do a real protein treatment such as Aphogee 2 step strengthening kit. Anything with bond rebuilding, moisture, and strengthing is what I go for. I don't want my strands to weaken from coloring, so I make sure I prep it at all times for the stress. Even before my hair was colored, this had always been my routine, the only thing I added, was an extra day of hair "washing" though it more like me rinsing rather than shampooing on that in-between day. I think that is the very reason my hair is so strong and fights off damaging situations, lol. Just listen to your hair. My hair loves oils after its already dry. Some people can add oils to their hair while it's wet, but that causes frizz for me. It's all about listening, and figuring out what your hair loves.

    Sorry for the problems you’re having with your beautiful hair. Seems like a combination of forces working against you. Maybe stop coloring your hair for a few months, even the most moisturizing brand can cause problems. Most curly girl
    Methods say avoid oils, especially if your hair is already dry, the oil seals out the moisture and perpetuates dryness and flaking. Your system could be vulnerable from shingles, neck, chest and scalp are typical areas for flare ups. Try to manipulate as little as possible as well as products. Most import, find a dermatologist who specializes in hair and scalp. Best wishes.

    Thank you for sharing your story. I'm in complete agreement that people should stop using DevaCurl. I recently downloaded the Think Dirty app. I think it can be a good tool but I have questions about its accuracy. For example, Curlsmith is a very clean brand but it scores an 8 in the Think Dirty app (on a scale of 0-10, with 10 meaning highly hazardous or contains very dirty ingredients). The majority of ingredients in Curlsmith score between 0-3 but fragrance scores an 8. So that now means the entire product is an 8 because of one potentially bad ingredient out of a vast field of clean ones?! That seems weird to me. But I guess the point is to give people some further direction on ingredients they may want to steer away from.

    Basically all of you guys were scammed and didn’t bother to read the Ingredients in back of the bottle. Don’t ever fall for these companies without researching what is in it. So sorry that happened to so many people. I’m so glad I never put that crap in my hair.

    To play devil's advocate, you would not still have build up from deva curl if you have been using other products. Build up occurs when you use leave in or styling products--regardless of the brand. Clarifying/washing is the only way to remove that build up and not using any leave in product.

    No product can be permanently binded with hair, beside henna. Even all the proteins are bidned with hair only temporary. So there is no possibility your hair is falling out because of bulidup from two diva cuts.
    All of people who used only 3-4 products of diva curls for years should realy find out about proteins - emoliets - humectants balance.
    And for those who got scalp damage I am really sorry and hope that all of you will get your explanation and justice.

    Same thing happened to me but I was using their products. I stopped using the products in January and my hair is still falling out. It’s so thin. I’m so sad and it makes me feel really insecure.

    You should try an Apple Cider Vinegar wash to strip the crap off your hair. Also have a look at AG Hair as it has apple cider vinegar in it. Good Luck hun x

    Try a aphogee treatment or Aztec healing clay you need to detox your body from the products I recommend like everyone else to see a dermatologist to work on a plan to get the stuff completely off your hair

    Put some dawn dish soap in your shampoo. Then wash your hair. Dawn is gentle and will take it off. Then deep condition your hair.
