I remembered you showing your knives and machets a while back. I do like to buy blanks and put handles on them my self. I think Ray would be very happy that his axe went to a great Outdoorsman & CZcams personality that has a true love for the outdoors. I bet Ray is smiling his axe is in good hands.
Was waiting for you to put that bag on your head. Love the channel, seeing your gear room inspired me to create my own, and get a sewing machine, and start making my own gear.
Great video, thanks for putting in the time to film and edit it. I especially enjoyed you showing the new emergency blanket. I will look that up. I enjoy the video on a cold snowy morning here in middle Tennessee.
I can’t tell you how soothing it is to start listening to you again after watching the toxic & gut wrenching political YT’s . It’s time to focus back on the basics. TY for the reviews & stories. 👍
That suit that you wore is classic! I can just imagine you and Nick dressed up in those and suddenly sneaking up on some other campers out in the woods! Another great video, I’m having lots of fun going through all of your videos, they are so fun and educational, thanks Dave ⚡️🌎🐄👍🏻🌔⚡️
Love your videos and your ingenuity with self made equipment. I’m 71 years old and grew up camping and love the outdoors. After getting out of the service in 1972 I bought a down sleeping bag that I still use. As many outdoors ventures as I’ve participated in the weather conditions have varied widely. The coldest temperature I camped in was -3 degrees. My sleeping gear was an army sleeping bag cover like the old one you showed, the down bag, and a poncho liner. I have always has a problem with my feet getting cold in cold weather so to remedy that I tried wearing clean dry socks while sleeping. They helped somewhat except in freezing temps. The next attempt was to zip my coat up and slide it over the sleeping bag over my feet. That did the trick. Maybe this is too much but there may be some new folks just getting into outdoor adventures. In cold weather camping when getting in that sleeping bag be sure to take off all the clothes worn during the day. If you wear any clothing in the sleeping bag be sure it is dry and do not wear cotton material. It will absorb your escaping body moisture and keep you cold.
I love when I wake up and find a new video from you! Looks like you got some cool new toys cant wait to see you use them have a great day you made mine better
Not related to this video, but can't remember which one I saw your tip about using three blankets to keep warm. Used that tip to stay warm during last week's winter storm here in Texas when our power went out. Your advice really payed off for us. Thanks.
I made my own ghillie suit made out of a mosquito netting coat with sewed on ribbons of burlap that had quite a stink to them. Turns out that stink covered up my human smell on at least two deer hunts. I found a bush and blended in to it next to a field where deer often went to feed. After a few minutes a deer approached directly from behind and got so close to me I could hear it breathing. I couldn't turn my gun on it so it eventually went away to look for other bushes not occupied by a human. On the next hunt I chose the same spot. This time it was an adolescent doe jumped into the field twenty yards away. She thought I was food and approached me from the front. I let it get within mere feet of me before I shooed it away. Ghillie suits. Gotta love'em.
Great videos as always! I have a Becker BK7,great for battoning fire wood 👌🏻like the axe story and message at the end, have a great and fun healthy 2021,everyone! 🙂👊🏻
That ghillie suit is gold! You can cover your body or layer your hiking bag to help break up your outline..absolutely useful and it doesnt way much. Great purchases
HI Dave! I'm sure you have thought of this already, but the Arcturus bag works great to trap and hold some of the lost heat when making a dehydrated food meal such as Mountain house. There's usually a good few minutes needed to fully rehydrate the contents after adding the hot water. Often, by the time it's fully ready, it's only luke warm, particularly when it's cold out. Putting the pouch of food in the Arcturus bag (resealed) can make a big difference in how hot your meal is.
Liked the video. Especially like what you say about the stories that can be found at estate sales. Interest in and respect for people. Nice, David. Onward. Happy New Year.
Thanks David, I'm glad you liked it. I figure once a family is gone and their house is emptied out the stories usually end so I listen when I can. Happy new year and thanks for watching brother
Kudos to you for keeping Ray's axe original. You have respect for someone you didn't know. Thank you for expanding the story. BTW, the head of the axe looks better than it probably was when it was new. I'm a little disappointed that I didn't pick up a SP53 while they were available. Happy New Year, Ya’ll! I sure hope you ‘n Nick get one of our typical sleet and freezing rain weekends to try out those cool blades & sleep systems! I can remember many years ago, my late brother and I went out in one, both of us loaded out with “old school” Marine Corps gear that Dad had liberated and handed off to us. As I recall, we were quite comfortable but the stuff was HEAVY! It was well that we camped in a wooded area that was close to the back gate of our base housing, not a lengthy walk from home! We have it easy now, better materials all around, but what we had was plenty good enough for the guys who won WWII & a thing to be remembered. All that said, I look forward to seeing ya’ll Boyz, hiking & camping, next video! 😁👍👍❗️

Dave: I haven't even watched your entire video yet... but... at 9:40 minutes in, a thought struck me... I felt the need suggest... NO playing with Ferro-Rods or Bic Lighters while wearing the Ghillie Suit if the need ever arises! WOOSH! ; )
Lol! Good advice Randy!
@@Reallybigmonkey1 I hope you're doing well, Sir. ; )
@@randywithofapt2660 I'm good, just old and lazy. Lol
My daughter loves that your "big knives all have baby knives." (She's 5) We love watching you together. Happy New Year to you and Nick.
Lol! That's a cool way of looking at it. And a happy new year to you too!
I think Ray would be very happy that his axe went to a great Outdoorsman & CZcams personality that has a true love for the outdoors. I bet Ray is smiling his axe is in good hands.
Thanks! I'd absolutely hope he's proud of the axe still being used and the story told. Thanks for watching my friend
Your house is starting to look like an army surplus store....hahah,but we love your shit man don't get me wrong....
Lol! Yeah but aint it cool?
@@Reallybigmonkey1 hell yeah it's cool,it's exactly what I want mine to look like brother...

Thanks! I'm glad you like em. Here's a nine year old video on how that name came about czcams.com/video/NYplmcjNDd0/video.html
@@Reallybigmonkey1 thanks for this link 😁 what a story! 😂
Was waiting for you to put that bag on your head. Love the channel, seeing your gear room inspired me to create my own, and get a sewing machine, and start making my own gear.
Lol! Improvised head warmer. Very cool you're sewing and making gear! Thanks for watching my friend
Great video, thanks for putting in the time to film and edit it. I especially enjoyed you showing the new emergency blanket. I will look that up. I enjoy the video on a cold snowy morning here in middle Tennessee.
Thanks Brian, I'm glad you liked it. Thanks for watching
I can’t tell you how soothing it is to start listening to you again after watching the toxic & gut wrenching political YT’s . It’s time to focus back on the basics. TY for the reviews & stories. 👍
Amen! I'm sick of all politics on both sides. We all need to chill out and focus on actually living. Take care and thanks for watching Pauline
Happy New Year! Looking forward to your postings for 2021.
And a Happy New year to you too Jerry!
Lol, fun suits but I wouldn't sneak up on campers. Someone might shoot us! I'm glad you're liking the videos and thanks for watching
@@Reallybigmonkey1 did you both ever wear the suits out in the bush or are they in case you go hunting?
Great Video Dave. Respect to you for your respect for Ray's ax; wonderful backstory. Happy 2021 to you and yours!

Love your videos and you as a person are so down to earth its almost unbelievable. STVB Malcolm 🏴
Thanks, I'm glad you liked it and the way I do things! Thanks for watching Malcolm
Thanks Pop for that info. It's spot on and several could learn from it. My feet get super cold too. Thanks for watching
I love when I wake up and find a new video from you! Looks like you got some cool new toys cant wait to see you use them have a great day you made mine better
Fantastic to hear that Shell and I'm glad you liked it. Im gonna have fun with these new toys. Thanks for watching
Great video as always . I can't wait to see you guys with the suits . Have a great year .
Thanks Brother Ron! And you have a happy 2021 too
Not related to this video, but can't remember which one I saw your tip about using three blankets to keep warm. Used that tip to stay warm during last week's winter storm here in Texas when our power went out. Your advice really payed off for us. Thanks.
Great to hear that helped Manuel!
Now that's awesome Thomas! Goes to prove the efficiency of a good ghille suit
Thanks for an uplifting & cheerful video. Glad that COVID has not slowed down the gear collecting.
You are very welcome John and I'm glad you liked it!
Great videos as always! I have a Becker BK7,great for battoning fire wood 👌🏻like the axe story and message at the end, have a great and fun healthy 2021,everyone! 🙂👊🏻
Thanks, I'm glad you liked it all! Thanks for watching and a happy 2021 to you!
That ghillie suit is gold! You can cover your body or layer your hiking bag to help break up your outline..absolutely useful and it doesnt way much. Great purchases
Good thinking covering your bag!
Hi Dave. Thank you for the information and the story behind the story. Stay safe and take care everywhere not only in the woods. ATB. Nigel
You are very welcome brother and I'm glad you liked it. You stay safe too and thanks for watching Nigel!
Very good thinking Sean! Ill try that.
I really enjoy your gear videos even though you're not in the woods! Thanks Dave!
Thanks Jerry! I'm glad you like em. Thanks for watching
Great video from the gear room. Wishing you the best.
Thanks, I'm glad you liked it. Thanks for watching

Oh! Happy New Year!
You are very welcome my friend and happy new year to you too!
Nice video. Thanks. Have the SP53 also. Used it a lot to process 24 trees that had to go. My absolute favorite.
Thanks Gerard, I'm glad you liked it. Man that SP-53 is a beast! Thanks for watching
Happy New Year and I look forward to your posts for 2021.
Thanks Mark, I'm glad you liked what I did. Oh Im sure it wasnt as polished as it is now. Ontario says its releasing a final batch in February! Thanks for watching and a Happy New year to you too!
Awesome video. Ray's axe is a wonderful story. Your lucky to have it and know its history.
Thanks Troy, I'm glad you liked it. I'm honored to own it
Dave Great Video awesome new gear for sure. really enjoyed the story of
history behind that Axe !! You talked about makes it all worth it..
Thanks, I'm glad you liked it. That axe had a history unmatched by any other gear I have! Thanks for watching
The reflective 550 is what I've used for years for lashing tent stakes. Nothing worse than tripping over it in the middle of the night when your sneaking a pee.
Ive got 3 of those old bag covers I got from a customer that gave them to me. Had no idea they were rare.
Thanks for sharing, and don't work yourself to death brother! You won't be on your death bed wishin you'd of worked more.
Sounds good, I need a lot more of that reflective cord. Hang onto those bags! Take care and thanks for watching
Glad to see your doing great, really looking forward to your 2021 video's.
Christmas was good to you, great new stuff.
Take care of yourself,
And as you always say, " See you in the next one ".
Thanks Nate. Man we had a fun Christmas! Santa delivered straight from the surplus store. Lol. I'm glad you liked it. Thanks for watching
😁👍👍❗️
Happy New year Roy! Freezing rain and sleet/snow is rare here. That old military stuff has always kept me warm but yes, it sure is heavy. I'm glad you liked it. Thanks for watching
That old double bit axe looks a lot like my ol craftsman double bit head.one old tip my granddad had for loose handles either on a hammer or axe was to soak it in antifreeze ,it'll get tighter than a nuns **** just keeps animals away from the containers soaking.. Great vid ,Dave .thanks for keeping it real.
Theres always a possibility mine is a Craftsman, its from that era. Never heard that anti freeze tip. I'm glad you liked it. Thanks for watching
I did watch your other video & all I can say is that Ray’s exe has the best New owner it could ever have. Thanks for the story Dave 👍
I'm glad you liked it and Im very happy to own that axe. Thanks for watching
