Si quieres mantener un acuario equilibrado, nunca remuevas el fondo, solo se sifonea la superficie del sustrato. El sustrato debe ser poroso que pueda alojar bacterias, encima de este sustrato colocar arena o piedra fina. La arena, con el tiempo se filtrara tendiendo a mezclarse con el sustrato que aloja las colonias de bacterias, el espesor de ese sustrato, por lo menos 5cm o mas. Yo tengo un acuario o pecera de 1,40x0,80 de altox0,50 de profundidad. voy para 5 anos sin cambiar el agua, un filtro canister, uno de cascada y solo sifoneo la superficie del sustrato, agregando el agua faltante del chorro. Unos 100 habitantes: 6 escalares (3parejas), 3 silver dolar, 2 viudas alegres, 4 corronchos agujas, 6 plecos enanos, 1 tiburon arco iris, mollys, guppys, espadas, platis, neones, cardenales, viuditas, pricilas, hachitas, lapices, tigritos, guramis, coridoras, caracoles manzanos, 8 camarones burritos y algun otro. Plantas flotantes y pocas de fondo.
