This video is all about me testing a Hyper Tough 98809 brushless compact 12 volt impact driver. I compare this impact driver to the Hercules HD81B and the Skil ID5744A.

I’m glad to see some other videos on CZcams about these new tools other than my own videos ;) , I was really surprised no one is making videos on these yet
When I saw them in the store I just had to test them.
You are the person I've been looking for, I'm not rich or have a lot of money...and finding good but cheap tools is a must for me.
Great review! I am buying it. Love the look and compact size. Plenty of power. Thank you. I think $49.88 is great. The 2ah is only $17.88.
Shout out to Hyper Tough and the girls that at work for Colbalts rakes and know little about ace hardware too but also them to🤨
I think for someone just getting into HVAC, that impact would be a good economical start. I think it would be just fine for removing panel screws on most equipment on a regular basis with that compact design for easy bag carry. Just keep a couple extra batteries to overcome that horrible charging time. I personally use M12 impact and M18 drills for main use, I have a 12v Bosch impact for a back-up, I also keep a Dewalt 20v hammer drill for heavier stuff and that has worked good for me. And yes I do have a RYOBI for the wife to use around the house🤣.
Blu Air - I agree with you totally
@@billymorrish4466 Maybe mommy and daddy could chip in for a teenager just getting into the trade, but if you come from a poor background and you are looking to get an impact to get you started until you make enough money to start upgrading to better tools, it will do the job for 5/16 and 1/4 inch panel screws when starting out with maintenance work as a new hire with little to no experience. Not everyone can afford Milwaukie and the name brands when you are getting started in the trade.
@@myHVAClife I see your point, and your right.
yesss ryobi tools stay at home 😭
As an hvac tech i just bought this last week i love it fits in tool bag lightweight its perfect
tnx for the great video, needed something for light work on my car and truck, for 50$ cant beat it.
I love this thing, still use it just about every day.
Thanks for this video. I just bought both the brushless drill and impact driver from Wally World in a kit for $88. I don't even consider myself a DIYer because I bought them for a specific reason but thanks to your video I know they will be at least decent tools
Glad I could help
Great video, I also like to try out cheaper tools and have bought both the brushless hyper tough drills. The Hart tools at wal mart are also very nice.
Nice review. I have the long reach ratchet. I like it so far.
I saw there were a couple more tools like the ratchets and a rotary tool. Wondered how good they would be. Thanks for the comment.
Same here. Managed to get it with $15 off via a PayPal deal with Walmart. I grabbed this brushless impact so now I have both tools with 2 batteries for around $110. Going to wait and see if I can grab the 2.0A battery and the fast charger if they ever go on sale. Don’t need them right now anyway
I got the fast charger. And the impact and drill. Both have been awesome..
The 1.5 amp battery is not strong enough and dies with half battery left
I hope they make a 4ah battery
I hope so as well.
Great starter set for a 12v enthusiast or new hire. You need small screw guns that can get into a dash. They make the ratchet for removing back seats. I saw these at Walmart and while I’m fully integrated into Makita, Milwaukee, and even a full line of Bauer batteries I don’t see me adding another set of batteries and chargers I’d definitely recommend these tools for a new hire to get started vs waisting money on a tool truck brand especially. Being that TTI makes Hart I’d love to know who is actually making Hyper Tough. Batteries just say Walmart and home address of walmart corporate on them.
Хорошо что на Ютубе можно переводить комментарии , в России примерно так же обсуждают инструмент
Looks like the Bosh 12v impact driver...great for the service tech tool pouch
They have a 2 year warranty on them. Says in the manual if it brakes under normal use to return it to the store with receipt and it will be replaced. I bought one for my steel metal/install tool bag. Well see how it goes.
I think this will last a while if you don't feed it to many hot suppers if you gotta do work grab a 18 or 20 volt don't get me wrong these do work but they are not industrial
The Skil is a beast, but the Hyper Tough held it's own in comparison.
I work at Walmart and several years ago, when Sears started shutting down, and sold Craftsman to Black and Decker/Stanley, I thought Walmart would then start carrying Craftsman too.... Then they dropped B&D/S and never picked up the Craftsman line but went with Hart instead, I was extremely disappointed. I still haven't forgiven Walmart for that idiotic move. Try giving your customers some options in-stores.
But I have bought a lot of Hyper Tough tools, and I do like them quite a bit. They are inexpensive, and if they aren't pushed too much to the extreme (don't use a 1/4 drive where the 1/2 drive should be used), they will hold up just fine.
These are on sale 10$ off right now online only 49$ I have a video of me taking a lug torqued to 100 ft lbs off my F-150 no problem at all...
There we go again with the comparisons to much higher dollar professional, commercial grade tools. Hyper Tough are very good tools for the do it yourselfer or homeowner at a great price. The comparisons are unfair and kind of snobbery. I'm referring mostly to the comments section.
Exactly. I had a tree fall down in my yard and needed to remove it. I didn't want to pay hundreds to have it done, so I went to wally-world and bought a hypertough 14 inch electric chainsaw for like $60. That thing tore through the tree no problem. I cut it into pieces, put it on my truck and I was done. Have used it several times since for cutting other stuff and it's going strong. People like me are who Hypertough markets to - people who need a tool in a pinch. They are not marketed to pros who use tools all day every day. I think Hypertough would even admit that.
i got the skil 12v 5 peice kit with 2 batteries for 99 so now im like thats still kinda high for that, but honestly i am impressed imagine they bring out bigger batteries for them.
I think they have a 5ah skill battery for like 40 bucks... The skill 12 volt line looks interesting
@@WHATDATTOOLDO They go up to 4amp on 12v comes with the circsaw, i mean on the hyper tough line lol. like i said though with the sales on the skil stuff can't beat it.
@@codustv1465 Ahh I new I saw a bigger battery just wasn't paying a lot of attention
lol the gus and eddie podcast opening
Not really sure if comparing it to a bare M12 tool on Black Friday is fair. _Every instance_ I take a look at the price of an M12 battery, it feels like an imaginary punch to the face(even _on sale)._
I'd say this is an excellent choice if you need something of decent quality for a medium-duty job, can't pay much, and can't wait for a sale.
...It feels weird saying that about something with "Hyper Tough" on the label.🥴
It is good so far. If anything comes up I will let you all know. I did quite a special on the m12 so most of the time you will pay more.
The thing with Milwaukee, you don't just randomly buy batteries (or tools, honestly), you wait for sales and bundles ("buy the 2-battery starter kit, get a free tool") and all the rest of the silliness that is part and parcel of their deal with HD. But yeah, buying them at 'list' price is painful (and that's even when I had to do so for work on the corporate card).
I bought one of the impact wrenches and it turned out defective. It wouldn't impact. It acted like a drill and tried to twist my wrist. I held on, and it wasn't powerful enough to break the bolt without impacting. I exchanged it for the oscillating multitool. Maybe ill try it again since I've seen positive reviews.
the Walmart near me (Charlotte suburb) clearanced all the 12v line 50% off. I got this brushless impact, drill driver and the 3/8 ratchet and a 2ah battery + fast charger for $25, $21, $17, $9 and $9 respectively.
They are reduced here as well, nice deals
Just bought one today.11/1/23 at Walmart in KY . Paid 32.00 for it .
No offence to the hypertough impact you tested, or the other two, not everyone has the budget for big brand tools🤷🏻♂️
But if you had included the m12 fuel that the hypertough is styled after in your tests it would have made all 3 that you tested look like a joke. It’s cool to see someone testing cheaper tools though-make sure to do a follow up 6mos or a year down the road after using that hypertough, would be interesting to see how it holds up.
As a mobile mechanic I use their 12v ratchets a lot- I don’t expect them to be impacts but- for running bolts in and out after breaking loose is time saving and worth the 50$ I paid for each. One use and they probably pay for themselves.
This comment was helpful for me. I'm a diesel tech apprentice looking for 12v tools to compliment my 20v collection. Thanks for sharing!
I make custom bit clips for Ryobi, Milwaukee, etc and I think I’m going to pick up one of these and make one!
Let me know when you do
@@Lyle-1999 hey i managed to make one for it!
@Marc Antonio Perez Do a short video about it. I'm pretty interested in bit holders for power drivers myself.
@@MightyMiniWorkshop how do I buy one?
@@Lyle-1999 check out the description in my account
I am too weak to get the battery out…what do I do now but return it
Why is that a Great deal?
I just looked up Kobalt 24v brushless combo kit for 179.00.
Circular saw, Recipicating saw, drill, impact driver, 4.0 battery, 110w fast charger.
That's 45 dollars per tool or 29 dollars per item.
I just saw this existed.
Now they just need every other tool in the M12 platform in Hyper Tough.
I don’t know if they will do a press tool.
Actually although similar to the M12 battery it's actually much closer to Chervon's 12 volt pack that they made for their Craftsman NexTec products. Looks identical but they don't interchange. Chervon been expanding lately I just discovered that they had acquired Skill that used to be Bosch, and Skil quality surprisingly improved since then. They been making Kobalt and Flex, and now I'm wondering if they're making these hyper tough tools as well. I have the Long reach ratchet, so far it's been pretty good I'm very pleased with it. Clearly though these are low drain rate batteries, and no doubt these tools will actually be a lot more impressive if they had high drain rate cells maybe in the future they'll add that option.
Thanks for the info man, appreciated
Given that Hart (Walmart's other 'house' brand, which seems to be positioned as a bit more premium and gets a whole bunch more advertising) is made by TTI (makers of Milwaukee/Ryobi/etc), having Hypertough made by Chervon would be an interesting choice of OEMing by Walmart. Walmart is certainly big enough to get away with it, but I'd imagine that the more they buy from one vendor, the better the terms they get are.
@@davidedwards9157 Yes that is true, and it actually is pretty odd Home Depot's product line is dominated by TTI and doesn't even have a single offering from Chervon, and Lowe's has none from TTI, not even Milwaukee which TTI keeps free to be sold anywhere. Does kind of seem like home Depot must have struck some kind of deal to keep Milwaukee out of Lowe's that otherwise has a more diverse brand selection than Home Depot including Chervon's three biggest brands Kobalt, Skill and Flex. So it does kind of make sense of Walmart might look for some offerings from both companies, and if this 12-volt stuff from a hyper tough isn't Chervon it sure extremely similar to their Craftsman NexTec line. Unfortunately though I think hyper tough is being made by several different companies, I don't think the 20 volt line is made by the same company. I have used this ratchet quite a bit since I last commented I am more and more impressed with it everyday. I actually have yet to see it struggle with anything, including running nylon locknuts as we seen tested in TTCs videos.
@@Troyvidihoo I suspect the TTI/HD relationship (and the Chervon/Lowes relationship, for that matter) is more tied to the 'makes the high-volume house brand and gets sweetheart pricing due to volume' thing... I don't think HD is opposed to selling (say...) Skil (which probably would sell better than Ridgid at this point), but they have finite shelf space, they have contracts with StanleyB&D/Metabo/Makita/Bosch (and customers who buy them), and TTI gives them better pricing on Ridgid than Chervon will give them on Skil (and Lowes probably wouldn't do enough volume on Milwaukee to get the leverage to do the loss-leader sales that HD does every couple months).
As a side note... I'm really impressed by how good the low-end brands are getting. When I started (early 90s), Ryobi was kind of a joke (at least the battery powered stuff), Kobalt wasn't even in battery power tools yet, Walmart had a rotating selection of tools from brands you never heard of before (and never would hear of again), Sears didn't want to make battery-powered tools over concerns about tainting the Craftsman brand (which was actually respected at that point), and Warrior/Chicago Electric were the best Harbor Freight had (and that was in the 'QA is performed by the customer' days). At this point, that HyperTough impact driver looks vastly better than anything I had available at the time, and if you factor in inflation, the 9.6V Makita I was using was probably 20x-30x more expensive. I like to think my current M12 Fuel is a better tool than the HyperTough, but they're a whole bunch closer to each other than either is to the old stuff, at least in performance (longevity is a different question), and the same goes for Ryobi/Kobalt/Bauer/Hart/(new)Craftsman.
@@Troyvidihoothe reason Milwaukee is not in Lowe’s stems from a long time back (2008 to be specific) when Lowe’s and Milwaukee’s agreement expired, it was not renewed because Lowe’s did not pay the bill on a 1.2 million dollar shipment of tools. I believe there was a lawsuit and everything. The agreement was never renewed again.
Thank you for this video! How is the hyper tough holding up so far?
It has done well so far.
@@zacksintheshop Glad to hear. I’m really thinking about picking this up to use around the house.

Do a comparison against the Milwaukee M12 fuel impact
Working on that now
This looks identical to the Bosch unit. Nearly everything about it.
32$ at my Walmart
I would buy this for a drawer tool. The kind that sits for a while, you get use out of it once in a while. If it grows legs and walks away you'll be pissed but not heart broken.
I think that designation would suit the brushed version of these
Ah yes, and the new Hercules 59421 brushless 1/4 hex impact for $70
And that one looks like a beast
👍
Buyer Beware. The Hyper Tough Brand is not worth the money and Walmart does not honor the Hyper Tough Warranty. 😠
adam sandler awesome
I get that a lot
For the price of the hyper tough kit, with battery and charger. Plus an additional rapid charger...
You could have almost bought, (on one day out of the whole year) the fuel impact driver, (tool only) and then $100 more dollars for 1 battery and 1 charger.
😂 why do pple compare shit this way? Like trying to reach hard asf to somehow make the (already at a disadvantage because of criticism and market fads) budget tools seem like a bad deal
Skil 12v for the same price. Much better unit and charger.
