Love is not the icing on the cake, it's a 3rd or 4th of it. It angers me that people so often say "oh, you don't need a partner to be super happy, you are whole just the way you are", but no one says the same about friendships or your job or hobbies.
Now, you can be happily single, but for a lot of us it's like friendships or a passionate job or hobby: if you don't have it, you feel like something is missing. It's not about not loving myself, it's about wanting to share my life with someone. And people who say everyone has to reach that point where it almost doesn't matter if you have a partner (with whom you would likely spend a lot of time, and therefore it literally makes a difference in how your days are structured) are, in my opinion, in denial.
