„Oye Cómo Va“ ist ein Cha-Cha-Chá von Tito Puente aus dem Jahr 1962, der ursprünglich auf El Rey Bravo (Tico Records) veröffentlicht wurde. Das Lied erlangte 1970 weltweite Popularität, als es von der amerikanischen Rockgruppe Santana für ihr Album Abraxas aufgenommen wurde. Diese Version wurde 1971 als Single veröffentlicht und erreichte Platz 13 der Billboard Hot 100, Platz 11 der Billboard Easy Listening-Umfrage und Platz 32 der R&B-Charts. Das Blockakkord-Ostinato-Muster, das sich im gesamten Lied wiederholt, wurde von Puente höchstwahrscheinlich aus Cachaos Mambo „Chanchullo“ von 1957 entlehnt, der 1959 von Puente aufgenommen wurde.
Das Lied wurde von Kritikern gelobt und 2001 in die Latin Grammy Hall of Fame und 2002 in die Grammy Hall of Fame aufgenommen. Santanas Arrangement ist eine „treibende, aufgedrehte Version“ in einem neuen Stil des Latin Rock, bei dem die Instrumentierung um E-Gitarre, Hammond B-3-Orgel und ein Rock-Schlagzeug erweitert wird und auf Puentes Blechbläsersektion verzichtet wird. Der E-Gitarrenpart übernimmt Puentes Flötenmelodie und die Orgel sorgt für die Begleitung (wobei Organist Gregg Rolie diskret den Leslie-Effekt nutzt). Es gibt mehrere Gitarrensolos und ein Orgelsolo, die alle im Rock und Blues verwurzelt sind, aber auch ähnliche Licks wie das Originalarrangement enthalten.(Wikipedia)

Santana's arrangement is a "driving, cranked-up version" in a new style of Latin rock, adding electric guitar, Hammond B-3 organ, and a rock drum kit to the instrumentation and dropping Puente's brass section. The electric guitar part takes on Puente's flute melody, and the organ provides accompaniment (with organist Gregg Rolie's discreet use of the Leslie effect). There are several guitar solos and an organ solo, all of which are rooted in rock and the blues but also contain licks similar to those of the original arrangement.(Wikipedia) - Hudba

As a follower of Santana for over five decades and a keen keys player , really love these guys. Vocalists complement each other very well, the guitarist is of course spot on and I love the Nord players chops on this solo. Like to see more… really really good.

One of the best cover bands I have seen. I just wish the keyboard player had a Hammond B-3 Organ & A Leslie Rotating Cone Speaker.. This would give the keyboard sounds even more depth. Still excellent job by all.
