  • Chuke and Chuck practice a bear attack drill with a moving bear target. Who will win? Chuck didn't pull the sled fast enough. Comment if you think he needs to go on a diet.

Chuke , the Glock 19, 9mm the holster was stuck to the gun, you got it off and fired off six shots before the target was up to you. The Glock 20,10mm , the pull from the holster was smoother and you fired 10 shots, there were some missed shot but still better. The Smith and Wesson 500, that was absolutely HILARIOUS! you firing the gun and hearing nothing but clicks, the weapon wasn't loaded. Can you imagine placed in a real life situation like that with a charging bear and you have a gun that you forgot to load? NIghtmare? Up shit creek. The Remington 11-87, 12 gauge, you looked confident with the shotgun. Who won? Chuck you had trouble pulling that Ruger 44, you still got off one shot. your other guns worked well. You survived. Chuke, unfortunately because you had that unloaded Smith and Wesson 500, you would have been mauled, possibly killed.Chuck You won, BUT Chuke, you had the funniest video! So you could say you both won ( both of you had good videos). I enjoyed this video Chuke, absolutely hilarious. I enjoyed both videos guys, good job!

Or let it go down the hill with the rope and put Chuke at the bottom.
Draw and shoot when its 15 yards from the bottom of the hill. With some rocks on the sled that thing would be moving.

Gun Sam _Revolver Aficionado_ , Thats EXACTLY why smart bushmen never go out w/o at LEAST their handgun. Never know when a bear will show up. We had short bbl shotguns hanging everywhere. Both front/back doors. One IN the outhouse at all times w NO door so u could see things coming. On the sleds (Snowmachines for thoes OUTSIDE Alaska) & ATVs in permanently mounted scabbords within easy fast reach. Just common sence. Even had 1 hanging from a tree branch w a plastic bag on it for rainproofing down at the fishing hole. Lil short bbl pistol grip maveric pump actions. Cheap & reliable. Both our kids could handle at least the first round by the time they were 7. It was a magnum #7 birdshot round for blowing a bear/ mooses face off up close if attacked. And they BOTH carried one when going to the "Far" fishing hole w/o us when they got a bit older & we allowed them to be "out of our sight" Always "packing" is just a way of life out in the bush just like a cop going to work. No big deal.

  • @flynbenny

Great collaboration videos and great subject matter. Chuck won even with the faster sled speed.
I think y’all should revisit this test, except with a snowmobile or quad pulling the sled, get the same gal or guy to run that so it is consistent. For safety reasons the shooter would need to be off line a bit and maybe protected by a low fence or something so they don’t get run over by the sled which is hauling ass.
I would also change targets for every run, unless you can get some tape to stick to paste over the holes, it was getting hard to track all the hits.

    1. shooter is walking parallel to range and the bear target deploys strong side and/or weak side without warning.
    2. take a page from Paul Harrell and build a "meat target" to really see hit effectiveness!

Don't ever use lead birdshot on a bear charging. We have had real bear charges and the bear turned away with 3 - 12 gauge heavy birdshot at close range by my brother and I used a .243 to finish it. Skinned it out and the birdshot was just under the hide. Would not have killed it and that was a bear with a paralyzed back end from a spine shot already.

Im.not claiming to be an expert of any kind. I'm just wondering how often people are caught 100% off guard without any knowledge of the animal being in the area?

This is an interesting video. With self-defense against a human being, they are generally standing upright and are oftentimes close to the same height as the defensive shooter. So if a person charges at you, then you can basically point nearly horizontal at your target for every shot. Considering that bears move quickly and may actually be a little closer to the ground, might there be a better shooting position for defense against them rather than standing up? While standing up you would have to angle your shots downward and constantly adjust this angle further down as the bear charges at you full speed(possibly trying to aim in front of them.) Would crouching, kneeling, or laying down provide a better shooting position(especially if you are trying to hit the head/brain) than standing upright?

I've never been near a bear, but I think after getting a couple of shots off, once the bear comes closer than say 20 ft or so, I would move laterally to the side, while continuing to shoot. It might not die right away, so you don't want to be in its path and make it harder for it to reach you. Also, I guess I'd probably shoot a bit slower, but try to get them all on target.

We used 147 grain hard cast in 147 grain flat it was full metal jacket and 9 mm in the outer penetrated the 10 mm in the same type of ammo it was only by an inch or so but I was very surprised. So it got me thinking either the nine of the 10 Does not have enough energy to kill a bear anyway so I guess it all comes down to shot placement. It’s kind a looking like the 9 mm may have an edge over just about any handgun that you cannot control. Anyway thank you for the time and effort as always great videos keep them up

Both will definitely kill a bear with the right Ammo
Plenty of examples out there where the 9mm has been used to kill brown bear so don’t believe everything people tell you but it doesn’t matter if you have a Barrett 50cal it’s not going to do anything if you can’t shoot it so PRACTICE PRACTICE PRACTICE

If you can't run as fast as bear, then perhaps you should determine the speed of the bear. Then you could figure out the distance appropriate to simulate the deficit of circumstance. Speed÷time=distance, or conversely, speed×distance =time. Once you know how much time someone has, you can get that experience and experiment to a more realistic expectation, i think your awesome efforts would do you more good. Once you know the time, you move the sled close enough for the runner to close the gap, in the right amount of time. Ps. It will affect your accuracy, but moving backwards may be better than staying still or try falling backwards with your feet facing the bear. Just maybe the force of impact against your feet might move you backwards. At the very least offering a sacrificial extremity to protect your vital organs will you fire at the animals. I would strongly suggest dummy rounds to start your training and do be careful not to shoot yourself during training. Love this though. If people train tactically for urban environments, why not train for rural and predatory environments. Have a great time i enjoyed watching.

Just constructive.... You actually hesitate after acquiring the target each time. Conclusion: you don't really want to shoot the animal. That's an issue of emotion.

  • @kayaaruaqyukonkingenterpri9992

People seem to cock magnum revolvers Forward in anticipation for the recoil and end up shooting low, especially with followup shots. I used to be a 9mm hater until I did some research on the round. It's actually comparable ballistically to larger caliber rounds, but any shooter can shoot a 9mm accurately from the first round to the last.

That group with your Glock 19 to the head compared to the G20 even with your holster delaying you may be a real thing to actually think about and consider on your hunts. I would never recommend 9mm for Bear hunting or especially "defense" but not hitting your target as fast and as often with another caliber should give you pause to consider it for defense.

I recommend 9mm as bear defense. So many people are so much better marksman with a 9mm than a "bear gun". Shot placement is everything, and 9mm is almost guaranteed great placement throughout the mag. Magnum revolvers require a lot of practice.

    • @mr.j5919
      @mr.j5919 Před rokem

I agree but people that always wanna slam the 9mm don’t understand that with the right ammo is extremely capable. It’s hard to argue that 4 to 5 FEET OF PENETRATION isn’t enough to carry for protection.
Inevitably in this incident we’d all want the largest caliber possible when a 1000lb killing machine wants to make you a snack but you can’t stop what you can’t hit so I think I’ll be carrying my G19 with me when I go in bear country but as I’ve said it’s all about shot placement with any firearm so PRACTICE PRACTICE PRACTICE

    .500 @ the bear's face.
    [And RAN]. Lol jk.

    Cool videos. Great shooting.
    Very creative Bear Attack Drill.
    I would choose the shotgun.
( at least 2 bear targets
    1 for 9 & 10 mm.
And 1 for 500 and shotgun, would have been nice).

Nice shot to shot recovery and target acquisition on the 9mm. I'd love to see if you can dump an entire 33 round factory glock 9mm mag before the bear got close.

Is there anybody in Alaska carrying a 40 Smith & Wesson pistol with like Buffalo Bore hard cast rounds for Bear protection?? Or is that like suicide? It's sufficient up here in northern Michigan for black bear protection. But I'm sure brown bears are a whole nother animal.
