- Here's another commercial for Zayre - this one with their "Take Another Look At Zayre" jingle.
This aired on local Chicago TV on Saturday, April 7th 1979.
About The Museum of Classic Chicago Television:
The Museum of Classic Chicago Television's primary mission is the preservation and display of off-air, early home videotape recordings (70s and early 80s, primarily) recorded off of any and all Chicago TV channels; footage which would likely be lost if not sought out and preserved digitally. Even though (mostly) short clips are displayed here, we preserve the entire broadcasts in our archives - the complete programs with breaks (or however much is present on the tape), for historical purposes. For information on how to help in our mission, to donate or lend tapes to be converted to DVD, and to view more of the 4,000+ (and counting) video clips available for viewing in our online archive, please visit us at:

Those were the better days of American department stores...before Walmart came along and ruined shopping as a fun experience.
It was when Wal-Mart went corporate following the death of their founder Sam Walton, that all hell broke loose. Wal-Mart started seeing less and less American-made products and started seeing more imports on every aisle. Sam Walton must be rolling in his grave right now. Rollback prices my ass!
Walmart has ruined business for everyone.. stores find it hard to compete 😭
Justin Hill Agreed. Walmart was much better when Sam himself was at the helm.
I hate that Zayre's went out of business
I for one think Walmart sucks
We had a Zayre in Chattanooga Tn. My mom and I would shop there every Saturday. Good Memories. Our children today want be able to look back and have great memories like kids who grew up in the 70's and 80's.
I was only 7 years old in 1979. I remember my parents taking me to the Zayre's in Brandon, Florida (near Tampa). I remember like it was yesterday. Such great memories.
There was a Zayre's in Tampa on East Hillsborough Avenue across from Fun-Lan, and it had its name on the roof in big neon letters
@@kenrutherford1109 , yep, I remember that one. I sure wish they would bring back Zayer's, but it would probably never be the same. At least we have the memories of back then that today's youth will never know.
BTW: The correct spelling is Zayre's
@@kenrutherford1109 , good catch. I didn't even realize I misspelled it.
@@bobby1970 Do you remember Woolco?
I miss Zayre
gurl zayre was it back in the day . that cafeteria had the bomb food
I miss them too
Ahh yes
Those glass asterisk in/out door handles of Zayre
I was such a tiny child growing up in the 80s knowing those things were heavy and hard to push and pull
0:00 That's the voice of Dick Summer. He was a well-known radio personality in Boston and New York City... WBZ, WMEX, WNEW, WNBC, WPLJ. He had a very cool voice that was instantly recognizable.
I miss TG&Y and I especially miss McCrory's. The two stores were owned by S.H. Kress, and IIRC McCrory's bought TG&Y
Thanks for this one. The only place in my neighborhood that had TRON action figures.
this place had all the action figs . they even had the dune toys but i was more into he man
TJ Maxx and BJ's Wholesale Club are the only things that remain that were spun-off of the Zayre Corporation.
0:03 Say hello to the creator of T.J. Maxx and BJ's Wholesale Club.
I wanna go take another look...lol
I wish they'd bring ZAYRE back.. I mean, ?#*$! I missed that store so much. Not only do I remember buying crystal figurines ZAYRE, I also remember getting holographic sticker from one of those slot machines.
@@danacarter9147 I miss Zayre's too
Even though the sign said Zayre everybody called them Zayre's
I think the girl who says,"Come on in and take a look!" at 0:24 is very pretty! I like the way she smiles at you,and waves her hand as she says that line-she has beautiful eyes, and a beautiful face and a beautiful smile.
I agree!
You don't see happy people like that anymore in today's commercials. Everybody's so mean & cynical these days.
I agree. Some Walmart associates can be mean as a snake, but others can be sweet as honey
If they're a brand new store, how can you take another look?
HAHA...wow, I totally forgot about them. My childhood memory of Zayre is the one by my house smelled like pee.
I've never known a Zayre's to smell like pee. None of the Zayre stores I've ever been in have ever smelled like pee
Holy polyester
I just took another look at all of those clothes. At Ross. They're still there, half-price.
I remember one time we went to Zayre and there was a giant pile of vomit right at the front doors.
My name is Zayre ;-;
That's my second name..
Alexandra Bentacourt No shit really? My first name is Zayre
