this is such a fun theme for a rec video! even though i love road trips there's always so much potential for them to turn really scary really fast 🚗🧳💀
You are awesome Rachel thank you.
I love road-trip stories! But I really haven’t read by many in the Horror genre. Will definitely need to read some of these! 🚘
What a fun theme. 🚗
Such a good channel name, makes me think of pumpkins and Halloween
❤ Iain ❤ Reid!!! My gosh I loved Foe so much and really enjoyed Ending Things too. You have convinced me to put NOS4A2 on the TBR for winter!! ❄️
Yay!
I was eagerly anticipating your recommendation for Cormac McCarthy's classic slice of literary dystopia "The Road". Not to everyone's liking but certainly a contender for any road based top 10!
I still need to read that one (shameful, I know!)
Hippie van emoji!
I've only read one book on this list, I'm thinking of Ending Things, so many here for me to check out. TY!
Oh Under The Skin! YES!!! ❤
Driving through the Canadian Prairies is a whole other experience! 😅 Beautiful canola fields and endless skies
Yes!!
Always assumed that Michael Faber took the title of Under The Skin from Rudyard Kipling's poem The Ladies... "for the colonel's lady and Judy O'Grady are sisters under their skin."
I read NOS4A2 on your recommendation and fell in LOVE with Joe Hill! I’ve been steadily reading through his list of books and haven’t been disappointed yet. Thank you so much!
So happy you enjoyed it!
Yay! So good to see a video from you!
Great video! NOS4A2 is one of my favorite novels of all time, nailed it. I recommend Duel from Richard Matheson. I am currently reading Mine by Robert McCammon, which is kinda horrifying but not even in the same league as Boy's Life and Swan Song/ Thanks for the recommendations.
Appreciate the rec
you sharred perfect ! take it easy!💫
The movie adaptation of Under the Skin is great, but it's also a very artsy movie, so not necessarily for everyone. And as far as I remember, there is no road trip!
Nobokov listed what he considered the best books of 20th Century (lectures on literature):
Mansfield Park (Jane Austin)
Bleak House (Dickens)
Madame Bovary (FLaubert)
Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde (Stevenson)
Swann's Way (Prouse)
Metamorphosis (Kafka)
Ulysses (Joyce)
🛸
NOS4A2 has been on my reading list forever. Might be time to get to it. Also, I just finished one of your recent recommendations - Shadows of the Short Days. That book was fantastic!! I haven't enjoyed a book that much in quite a while!
So glad you enjoyed short days
If you haven't read it already, you might enjoy Roger Zelazny's ROADMARKS, a science-fiction novel from 1979 about a road that travels through time and the people who use it. Admittedly, it's been ages since I read it myself so I don't know if it holds up, but if the premise sounds good to you, maybe check it out.
Definitely need to read that one
Haha I enjoyed this thumbnail. I do want to read I'M THINKING OF ENDING THINGS, at least before I watch the movie. I recently read A BLACK AND ENDLESS SKY and I have... opinions. 😅
Can't wait for you're review of Blackness. And I would be so interested to have you read Ending Things
Fun list! I also get sick when I try to read while riding in the car. Such a bummer. Road Harvest by Brian Bowyer is a pretty brutal road trip book.
Yeah I get so sick in the car. I can only listen to audiobooks
Love this video idea. Can you do a video specifically about books that are great on audio? I’m a hospice nurse and drive a lot for work so am always looking for what’s great to listen to.
That's tough work! I'll have to work on some more audiobook content
Fun video! I have Perfect Days and Under the Skin on my tbr.
Judith Sonnet's "No One Rides For Free" has to be a contender for the ultimate extreme horror road trip from hell award!
Under the Skin sounds cool, I was in the Scottish Highlands last year and the locals drive super fast! Being from the US it was terrifying mostly because of the other side of the road thing and single lane roads lol
I wouldn't expect that
hey, rachel. this is marie. just wanted to thank you for this video. i've read most all of these, but under the sky. i got graff to watch the movie, but i don't think he'll read this book. i did get him to read nos402, and he hated it. lol. he also read the riley sager book, which i had problems with, but he loved it. two different needs as readers. thanks for the recommendations.
Thanks so much for your message! I know Graff doesn't love dark stories so I'm grateful if you watch some of these Tuesday videos
Non-horror but Jack Kerouac's classic On The Road is undoubtedly worth checking out (the title is a bit of a giveaway as regards subject matter!) I adored it when I was in my teens and 20's but having re-read it recently I can see it's flaws and failings.
Would The Stand count, as a good part of that book deals with traveling?
📚
Hey Rachel, how are you?! Have you read middle of the night by Riley Sager?
Almost finished it!
Bait and switch! I thought this video was going to be in the car! Maybe while driving! Oh well, great reviews...even if they were done in a house.
Probably for the best, lol
I was tempted to film in my car but I don't have a good place to mount my DSLR. I wouldn't have driven while filming though. That just never seems safe
🚗 🚘 🛣️
If you are looking for a good road trip/hitchhiker horror book, "Butcher Road" by Jon Athan is a good one. It's a fast read, I believe it's only about 170-ish pages
I'll have to look that one up
Awesome recommendations
You are as beautiful as ever❤
🚗
For a second I thought this was a vlog 😂
Working on the vlog! Just got sidetracked by illness
Happy you are feeling better 🤗
👍🚗
How is this the first time I am realizing you are also Canadian?!
Yes! Canadian!
@@TheShadesofOrange I'm in BC!
Loved the ending in I'm Thinking of Ending Things. It hit close to home. And I didn't hate Survive the Night because of the main character did a lot of stupid things. I just thought she was extremely annoying.

Nice Thumbnail 😅
Thanks I had fun with it
🛻
Ending Things: Loved the book and I was surprised have much fun the movie turned out.
Thumbnail: It looks like you're outside. Is that possible?
I have a *hold* on Perfect Days. Love the channel

Haha a rare moment outside!

Hi there Hi there Hi there
🚗 🔪
no DO NOT watch the under the skin film unless you're a total die-hard scarlett johansen fan and have to see every thing she's in. In addition to having almost nothing to do with the book it's also just plain bad and boring and don't know why anyone would tell you it's even worth watching let alone that it is good. Know you really liked I'm thinking of ending things but you may recall me saying I didn't really get it so even though respect your opinion I will tell readers beware and to read some more reviews before taking that plunge. ⚛😀 ❤
You failed to understand it. It’s okay. The world needs simpletons too. Grab a shovel, ditch digger.
Oh really? I've had it recommended so many times
@@TheShadesofOrangethey must have seen a different movie or maybe they were just viewers mesmerized by seeing scarlett in all her naked glory ⚛😀❤
