Luke has really grown on me. In a cast of nutty fireball throwers, stretchy limbs, electric dolls, air dashes and installs, Luke's biggest strengths are punching really hard and punching a lot. Like, yeah, he has his own fireball, but he throws it by...throwing a punch. He's easily the most "mundane" fighter and it was definitely intended to be part of his charm, and, well, it's charming lol
i agree. I really like how compared to the 2 other iconic shotos, Ryu and Ken, they clearly demonstrate mastery of proper martial arts in their moves. Luke on the other hand looks like he's just swinging his arms n shit and the best description you could give for his fighting style would be, "he beats the shit out of people"
There does seem like a fair number of supers where you see the opponent make some attempt to fight back in the animations. Make sense that even when put in a bad spot, they would still try and retaliate, but it just makes these special so much better since it adds to the story telling of how they are in full control even when the opponent thinks there’s a way to get out of it. Referencing both this one and Jamie.
My boy Luke laying hands, I freaking love it. His new CA looks way more better, from the the cinematography to the angles to the point where the opponent trys to fight back but then gets obliterated by the last punch. It fits so great with him, THANK YOU CAPCOM.
I'm hoping they give Jamie's Level 3 a look over. As well as Chun-Li's Level 3 and CA; those feel kinda disjointed and lacking the same kind of dynamic camera angles of the other Level 3s

I kind of like the change. it’s like in MMA your opponent has their hands up trying to defend them selves and the opponent trying to hit you back when you’re on top Luke counters with a punch to make it more like your opponent is defending themselves and not just taking hits. Making Luke look like a killer.
Noah, he looks less like a killer and more of someone who follows good sportsmanship in the new version as the opponent isn't already unable to fight back.
@@number090684 I think that's why they changed it, Luke's character in 5 is shown to be a young but respectful individual he is eager to fight others not out of validation but to see their fighting style. In 6 he's older now but is still eager to see everybody's best he is a good sportsman and an honorable fighter and eager to test his strength. The walk off while cooler shows a cocky disrespectful side to him. But the new one where he backs off show's that he is respectful of his opponents even in victory.
It'll be funny seeing every character on the roster try something as stupid as trying to throw a straight punch against the guy that has all the leverage on you and get obliterated for it.
So much disrespect in these critical arts. Luke and Jamie let you try to fight back before curbstomping you, Guile puts all of his 20 inch timbs onto your chest before flip-kicking you. Ken takes a cue from his student and plants his fist in your face while telling you it's over/sit your ass down quietly. and Juri just embarrasses you, naturally. These feel _personal_ and I love it.
It's really interesting/odd to see so much defense in these super animations but it really made this super better: They toned down some of the outright maliciousness of simply raining shots on an unresponsive opp in top guard and simultaneously make the final hit more of an example of Luke's MMA ground-n-pound skills, successfully counterpunching an opponent he forced to use offence as defense in the first place. I really didn't think this game could get more amazing looking than the big reveal with Luke and Jamie, but between animation tweaks like these and the GORGEOUS new stages introduced, CAPCOM are the ones shattering all expectations!
Well, it IS a fighting GAME after all. With fireballs, pyrokinesis, electricity manipulation, and probably more shit we've yet to see. Street Fighter has always been outlandish and I'd argue the second one is more viscious and on brand, if unrealistic.
@The Science of Violence How the fuck did you get a like from the uploader with that terrible take. Obviously if you get knocked out or stunned you won't be responding to the blows on the ground coherently. Do you only train in MMA and not watch or participate in actual matches??? Guys are punched a few times even after their out cold on the ground until a ref stops the fight, in a street fight like in the game that wouldn't happen so you would get to see the guy get absolutely pounded on. Can't believe how sheltered this comment section is.
@@atlasreborn7221 yeah just last build Luke's CA was pretty much the same, the only difference was that he walked over you in the CA version. Here tho it's completely new
These CAs have way more personality in them. Plus the hint of realism makes them really interesting to watch. I always wondered if the opponents getting hit with super moves in the past are in too much pain to try and resist. This game is giving a more realistic approach to the victim by having them react to what is going on the best they can. Like seeing Ryu block, eat those hits, and try to stop luke from charging up before getting smitten is hype af!!!
It’s a smart decision to keep the themes of each ca close to each other. Luke definitely needed that close up shot as the ender compared to his old wide view of the punch
Kinda like this new version. Luke does leave his opponent free to guard their face at the part where he leans back to prepare his barrage so the logical move from his opponent is to lift their arms up because they know he'll be going for the head.
I love this. Supers in games nowadays make these otherwise very powerful and very experienced martial arts experts look amateur and dumb and weak in how they stand there and just take the beating. These SF6 supers make the fighters fight back a little while also still no diminishing the impact of the super. And the result is always super cinematic. Bravo Capcom.
I think they changed it to show good sportsmanship considering Luke is a MMA fighter. The original has him deliver the final punch after the other fighter doesn't look like they are fighting back, or capable of it which is illegal in MMA as that is excessive and unnecessary and cause serious harm or worse. In the new one it looks like they are at least struggling and trying to fight back before he lands the final blow so it's fair game.
I love that the new ca reflects our emotional state at that point of the battle 90% of the time. Luke just releases all the anger in that attack and we can feel a sense of relief once he is done, just as he also relaxes his expression as if he is remembering that his fighting philosophy isn't about being angry or mad but rather enjoying and having fun. I love this character
Not sure which one I like more. I really enjoyed the ending of the original where he walks away with his back to the camera shaking off his hands. It’s so in line with Luke’s frat boy energy. But at the same time the camera showing the opponent desperately trying to block his face while Luke pins him down and beats the shit out of him is also great.
Old one- I do like the end where he calmly and confidently gets up and walks over you like, “yep, you’re done.” New one- had much more dynamic angles and personality with the opponent fighting back.
This one is way better, it's more dynamic and involved. I always love super animations where the opponent tries to fight back. There's a little story arc in this one. Also it better ties Luke and Jamie together as rivals since both have the enemy gets to try fight back gimmick.
The old one wasn't bad for sure but this version adds alot more personality and drama. you get to see a bit of relief from Luke from barely avoiding the counterpunch while you get a more accurate representation of Lukes MMA background rather then him just wailing on on someone
Apparently, level 3 supers have a hidden variation if you land them when your health is low. The bar changes from "Level 3" to "CA" (which I assume is Critical Art). Cool move, tho
At first I thought that Luke was literally sitting (kneeing?) on top the opponent's body. Then I realised that his legs where in kind of sumo position, literally unprotecting his genitals from being hit. A well placed knee or a kick and Luke would be, literally, seeing stars.
Oh my god yes!! They are ramping up the intensity of these matches to 11!! These little details really make a difference in how it feels when playing, believe it or not. The opponent trying to punch back and getting more pummeled is badass~!
Don't change it completely, make it trigger in different scenarios. I say if the opponent tried to hit a button and got supered go for the second animation. If they just got grabbed, for for the first one.
