"I have no employees... I have kids tho" made my day.
My younger daughter is itching to help me with work around our garden and she enjoys it.
about sanding those tops, I used to do that for many employers. In the end the best way is to batch them if possible but either way find a local woodshop with a wide belt sander thicknesser or even planer thicknesser and belt sander combo, a place near us had a machine capable of doing 130cm wide tops. Pass it through a few times, hand the boys two cases of beer and leave with pristine tabletops and new friends.
My favourite video of yours yet brother. Love the blend of upcycle, renovate, woodwork, 3D print and laser. A genuine and honest account with relatable comedy intertwined. Ignore the festool haters, its cheaper "per use" over it's (and your) lifetime. Bravo
Wow! Thank you - it means a lot!
I'm looking forward to your video on patching the new table top because you drilled thru your work again. I'm sure you will have a well thought out detail for the patch
Subscribed, awesome! your also such a fun narrator
Great job the table looks amazing
I loved your video! And all your explanations! Thanks! Very beginners friendly!❤❤
Good job! You can really tell you spent a lot of time on this video!
Hej! Loved your closing remarks on „get yourself something from ikea and…“ Long story short my flat came with a kitchen preinstalled (Germany, no kitchens normally, it’s a thing) Anyway the cabinets needed some tender love and care - so I replaced the counter tops and doors and drawers. nothing fancy. but lo and behold - my 1999 built kitchen now has a crisp new white look, new countertops and probably will serve me the next years. Thank you Mr. Swedish Maker for your inspiration and call for action 🇸🇪 🎉❤
Times magazine here just leting you know you are in the front cover for the biggest philanthropist human of 2023
Nice film. Thank you.
Love this project. Great to see the practical uses of 3d printing and laser cutting/etching. Because who actually makes money with those things. 😉
Great story telling and look forward to see all the projects you come up with in your new place. 👊🏻
thanks a lot mate! and no you cant really make money from those things 😂
1:40 it’s a pet peeve of mine whenever I shop at IKEA: why are so many tabletops NOT wood, when the feet are? Does it bring down the cost, or does it increase their margin? I really wonder what I’m paying for in that situation.
Also, what made that table ugly is the white veneer. Nothing can redeem a white plasticky veneer. On the other hand it would have been attractive if it had been a natural wood pattern, even with the ovoid shape.
"Does it bring down the cost, or does it increase their margin?". Both. A full solid wood table top is expensive.
Oh Pierre I love the table ! please don't cut this one in half!!, I loved the video and as always a great story I think this is one of my favourites. Keep up the great work and I cant wait for the next one
I promise I won't cut it in half :) We have to eat at it next week. Thank you! Means a lot!
Sir! You did judge your planer! No snacks and movie for the planer I noticed?! It has been in touch and that remains confidential.
Great project, my heart was alongside you, you looked so beaten up!! Are you as tall as you appeared?
Bit of a heavy chamfer ?? Loved the laser.
Quality as normal Sir.

I thought I was the only one who cried when John made a new friend in Die Hard. Great project BTW.
The table also looks real sweet!
I love it! A win for you! Sand until you can't imagine ever sanding again, then sand a bit more.. Very nice table, especially the top.
sanding is an inevitable evil :)
Have the same laser. It really is a monster. Really liked the idea behind this video. Will definitely be looking at older furniture in a new way.
thank you! Laser is really good!
Nicely done! As always, of course. I’m glad she noticed what you’d done this time. You deserve a little recognition from time to time. haha
hahaha yes, thanks :) It felt good that she wanted to keep the table
Good one! VERY funny! I have to say, coming from U.S., living in Greece for three months a year, and both houses full of IKEA furnishing, Europeans don't..."do" comfortable chairs, bed mattresses, and...something else, I forget...Oh, yeah, refrigerators. But I have to give it to them for Festool and Bosch. Very refined...if unaffordable, but still...
Keep up the funny work :)
haha yes some good things come from Europe :)
Great video! I was looking forward to see the customer when you gave it for free, - but yes I would do the same in that situation. 😂😂 #happywifehappylife 🤘🏻
thank you! I was really looking forward to giving it away as well 😃
@@TheSwedishMaker you did give it away... to your wife 🤭
Ahh the joys of having a small shop! great video Pierre!
The only upside right now - it's cosy. I would trade with you any day of the week :)
Your wife did the right thing. That is a good looking table :)
thank you!
Pierre this video and story telling are fabulous I was hooked in the first 7 seconds.
oh thanks Chad! Means a lot!
Great stuff Pierre, the new top looks miles better on that base 👍
Thanks John! I do agree :)
Excellent video man! I felt your pain planing all that wood, I’ve done the same in my single car garage and swore never to do it again. Certainly wasn’t prepared for the amount of effort it required. Excellent results though ❤
Thank you! Yes it so much work but I tend to forget from time to time. Thanks for watching
How did the connection between the top and the rest work? The way you explained it, it would seem that the wood movement of the top could break it?
Nice final outcome.. But a genuine question, why the wood panel has to be that thick? Wouldn't a one inch thick panel be enough for the use case?
Love the podcast! Started at the beginning and I’m 25 episodes in. So funny! I can’t stop smiling. Also decided to pick up svenska again on babbel
oh wow! That's nice to hear! I expect the next comment in Swedish then ;)
Hi there. Nice work. What’s the name of the wax that you use on;;;
Great video! Funny twist at the end!
Thank you!
Great project, realy love it.
Thank you
Can you put a link to the podcast in the video description? Would be great.

That is a great looking "not IKEA " table.
"Lots of work" (pulls out Domino)
"I wonder why the Domino is so hated"
😂😂
Very cool mate! Love the commentary 😂
😍
Nice table. How much were all the tools?
Moral of the story: keep craft projects secret from wife.
Ahahaha love the ending 😂. My wife is like that exactly!
Good for leg space. Not like "four normal table legs" good, but . . .
im a simple man. I liked this video, i subscribed 👍
Have you thought about wood movement and the machine screw fixing of the tabletop?
I think the insert nuts are loose enough to be able to move in the hole - at least I hope so :)
New old table is looking good!
Thank you
I would have used the old top to put a new top on top. Glue it to the old top.
What a great build again. And I completely understand your wife. It's too beautiful to give away 😁
😍
love it !
Great craftmanship. But wife's got skills too
Anything can turn into an argument with anyone's dear spouse. Agree. Then do what is needed. Keep the spouse, lose the furniture. (decades of experience)
I love it already ❤
thank you ❤️
How tall u are?
Very nice.
11:50 Ikea furnitures are already apart so...😉
If you sold it to your wife, did you also have to share the profit with her? Or does she also take the money... :D
😂
HAHAHAHA "my wife wanted it"
the problem of sanding is that when you start as apprentice, you fill 90% of the time with sanding.
first year i sanded hundreds of antique wooden shutters of an old monumental country manor.
also shutters had those angled slates, thus i was only allowed to manual sand.
the most mind numbing work i ever done for 7 moths straight.
seems to me you indeed need to hire an apprentice lmao!
Came here from daniers post and not disappointed. Subbed
Thanks a lot!
@@TheSwedishMaker absolutely. I look forward to binging some tomorrow!
Rätt typiskt 😂 först ingen som vill ja möbeln, sedan fixar men lite med den...
Happy wife, happy life! 👍👍👍❤️
true that!
That is one Thick tabletop
wow so nice
Thank you!
him: "and i think i know why"
me: cause it's mad ug..
him: it's ugly
Hilarious 👏🏼 👏🏼 👏🏼
But I have kids 😅 that’s funny 😆
"Well, weren't you supposed to give it away anyways?"
Well done! You played yourself!
Thanks!
And then his wife said …….. let me make you a deal that you cannot refuse……and now you have a new table at your summer house.
In the end the wife always wins.
So grab a beer and accept it. 🤣🍺
So true!
Wife is always right😂
Ha-ha! nice deal!
lol, I do not know why I did not figure out the ending. It was so obvious at that time.
classic, you do something nice and the wife is like.... yes, we keep it.
Your wife made a good call , it's lovely 🙂
She is always right 🤷♂️
Wear a mask during the router, you will regret not doing it!
That's a strangely successful failure. I have two points, however:
a) why did you go into all this trouble and not use baltic birch plywood instead which would be thinner and thus more elegant and in line with the table's design?
b) why not try to make a project out of this by copying it? I'm not sure whether there are any intellectual rights on the design as it looks quite old so that such rights may have expired - if such rights expire, that is - or if there still are such rights, maybe make something similar without the IKEA design features that make it an IKEA design?
Red tool is better
Your wife was right, it was too good to sell 🙂
This kind of project works better with older IKEA pieces. The last two decennia the quality of IKEA products has deteriorated significantly. Material has become thinner, metal was replaced by plastic, wood by particle board, .. and so on. IKEA has become the Zarah of furniture. It is cheap, wears out quickly and then you replace it with something new and shiny again...... and again.... and again.
You moved to a new location, I thought you'd have a better work environment, but that workshop doesn't seem to be much more comfortable. What's your plan about this? Will you make a bigger workshop? If yes, would you document that?
The plan is indeed to make a bigger workshop yes :) It will be documented as soon as I get started doing it. Thanks for watching!
Doesn't, not don't
Perfect amount of wet, maybe even “lagom” wet 😂
that's the perfect amount yes :)
I guess I'll never be a proper woodworker since most my tools are blue.
Oh yes! I have many of those :) I was just having a go at the haters
misleading title :(
lol - that is so my wife. I will start some project, she doesn't want anything to do with it until I'm finished. Then she wants the item I just made.
