DFFOO [JP][Act 4 Chapter 8 Part 1] Even without much mHP, Angeal is still silly with 30% add. HP dmg

  • I am pulling on baby mostly just to see how he works and potentially prepare for future mHP related characters like Basch or maybe even Porom. Well, he is deals crazy dmg for sure and it is honestly really silly.
    This is a relatively low HP build. My baby account's resourcefulness is like a barren desert compared to my main. The only thing that is supporting Angeal's max HP is .... Alexander summon blessing (and his own BT) lol, which is pretty much accessible to everyone. Synergy buffs his HP by quite a margin, but there are other ways you can compensate for it. Curiously though, his mechanics are surprisingly more rigid than I anticipated. If he can do this kind of dmg with this low budget/synergy setup, then you will just have to imagine what kind of dumbness you will get when you put additional silly things like crystal ability 4 to the mix.
    Bear in mind because the boss doesn't have enough HP (as per usual), the additional 30% HP dmg is not displayed and counted towards the final dmg as well.
    Boss: King Behemoth
    Orb: (limit: 8)
    +2: melee command selected on turn pass
    +1: character at 100% or above on turn pass
    -2: player action
    Force:
    0%: 100% Player HP dmg-
    FA: Roar
    - All bosses move to the front of turn queue
    - 1T debuff duration reduced on all bosses
    - ATK/DEF+ buffs on bosses
    - within 1T, both bosses cannot be below 10% mBRV (cannot be further reduced if they start at below 10%)
    - a fixed AOE BRV+HP attack will be performed on the upcoming turn
    Thresholds event:
    healing event: 80/50% (80% recovery)
    cancellation: on turn pass, player character be at or above 100% mHP
    General approach:
    Not much to say about this boss. They don't do much on normal turns, the only thing to look out for is the FA and the orb.
    As long as you have around 2 melee characters and not spamming non-attacks, you should be fine with the orb. Though if your HP is not full, then you will have a problem. Luckily, boss turns don't consume orb counts.
    Their FA makes them teleport turns and while their FA kind of tickles, taking two to the face may jeopardise your ability to heal up and maintain the orb immediately. You can stop them with status effects like Arciela CA/paralysis, have Leon/Celes absorb their attacks etc. There are plentiful of ways to deal with a FA that is not exactly fatal. As a tip, all of their attacks can be dodged.
    The threshold healing event is very simple. As long as you stay at full health, you don't even need to do anything else. Practically anyone can cancel the event. So take your pick.
    Just as a friendly reminder. The force aura can be debilitating though. It is a 100% HP dmg reduction at all times. It is tied to Angeal's dreams meter mechanic as a minor selling point.
    Regarding Angeal:
    Just to quickly go through how he works:
    Angeal basically weaponises his max HP to deal additional dmg (for himself). For party members and also himself, he provides additional HP dmg up (not fixed dmg, not HP dmg cap, just HP dmg up). You can test that with any character in the party without FT. their cap does not change at any point.
    I don't think anyone knows the exact % yet, we only know it has correlation between the value stored and his max HP.
    At QS without BT, Angeal has a cap of 200% mHP as the meter cap. It can only be uncapped by his BT. It also only expands his HP dmg CAP when he has his BT on (x2 of the dreams meter to be exact).
    How to change the value?
    There are 2 ways.
    One is using practically any of his own attacks barring BT attack. All of his moves have a store % in relation to his mHP. It is as follows:
    30% (S1), 50% (S2/EX/LD), 100% (FR)
    The second way is through breaking enemies. Angeal has a LD buff that gives him the ability to store 50% of his mHP ONCE per action. This banking event can happen on top of using his moves. They are accumulative in nature.
    Note that Angeal EX and FR has an unbreak all target function for this purpose.
    Due to these two points from above, the priority to storing value should be:
    S1 -- S2/LD -- EX -- FR (top priority)
    That's also why U4 is very good. I would also advise taking exploit every opportunity to break the enemy.
    You can also work his BT into storing value with a timely break when enemy has just recovers from breaks.
    Rules:
    1. Overheal (max HP overflow) does NOT count as mHP. I tried double overhealing with Leon/Cecil, the value stored each time was the same. Only actual max HP up matter (e.g. Lenna, Leonore, D2 etc).
    2. HP Poison/Self-harm (e.g. Vivi LD) does NOT deplete his meter. At least not when I tried with Spiritus Ifrit.
    3. Taking direct HP dmg from attacks deducts 100% of the HP dmg off of the meter.
    4. Other party members cannot contribute to storing values.
    You can either go with high max HP build for fast charging or additional HP dmg build. IMO the latter is better with such a high "cap" character when he can get close to the cap that easily. You can deal more dmg than the hardcap without strictly reaching the hardcap.

      Sorry, but what you tried to express through behemoth A may not have been displayed properly on my end. All I can see is a rectangle, like some unrecognised characters without certain language packs XD.

      Ofc, Leon isn't even that good in Memoria 3 lol. Emperor can be pushed back by breaks and there is only one target. It is a typical case of "not the best fight to sell both featured characters" presented by OO, the other one being Minwu.

    I forgot to put Xezat and Fujin on the thumbnail, but oh well, you would know Xezat is involved in some way when there is a bonus 30% additional dmg anyways.
    Poor Behemoth B straight up just died all the way from 38% to 0 without a chance to heal though. A moment of silence for him please.
    The extra 30% additional dmg comes from Alisaie LDCA: Fire/Thunder/Earth/Wind (Also Fujin), Kurasame LDCA: Ice and Rydia CA buff: Water.

    he looks similar to Astos when he was first released 😂 btw what's the recommended team comp and rotation to maximize his overhead/dmg ?

      It is more of a priority system if you have U4 involved. The basics are: get maxed before BT, don't take HP dmg from direct attacks and break as much as possible.
      The priority for storing value is FR-EX-LD/S2-S1. So spend all of your FRs, and you can try betting on U4 proccing more EX uses for you. If you are on a high mHP build though, maybe you don't have to rely too much on this, since he doesn't really need to get to max meter to reach 999,999.
      For ST DPS, S1 is the most dmging. For AOE DPS, it is either LD or Ex.
