How I achieve cells and lacing on my resin beach scenes

  • After receiving many questions regarding how I create cells and lacing on my beach scenes, I decided to create another video, however, this time I am going into more detail on the process.
    There are a number of factors that come in to play when trying to achieve cells and lacing. One of which is the type of resin you are using. The consistency of the resin, too thick and the resin is difficult to move, too thin and you can lose them.
    The time of year and the temperature of your room also plays a major role. I find it difficult to get cells and lacing during the winter and much easier during the summer months.
    The colourants you use also play a part. For instance, the Angel White from Le Rez is great at creating lacing and cells because it is a dense pigment paste. It retains its bright white colour and breaks up nicely when blown with a heat gun or blow torch.
    Also, if you pour a clear layer before pouring the white, you create a barrier between the lower layer and the white layer, meaning the colours don't blend when you apply the heat.
    As with all of these factors, you need to experiment with your own resin. I would highly recommend that your room is warm as this will give you the best chance of achieving the cells and lacing.
    For this project, I used the following products:
    • Three MDF panels - 30 x 40 cm each
    • Real West Australian Sand
    • Liquid Glass Resin from U Resin: bit.ly/LiquidGlassResin
    • Artisue Powder Pigments - Jade
    • Artisue Powder Pigments - Sapphire Blue
    • Le Rez Expressions Epoxy Pigment Paste - Angel White: bit.ly/lerezmatpaste

    Another beautiful piece! Thank you for sharing! I always gain new insights, tips and awesome tricks from your narration. Could you please answer a few questions for me? No hurry, whenever you get a minute or two.
    1. You said that the beach was resin mixed with sand and the texture is quite visible even on my little laptop, then you poured out your blues and greens and they too appear quite thick with texture...what form of pigment did you use? Paste? Powder?
    2. You kept mentioning white paste as you poured your waves, so does that just mean you used a white pigment in paste form?
    3. Do you always use the same brand of resin and pigments, or do you use a variety?
    4. What type and/or brand of pigment is your favorite?
    That's all my questions. Thanks again for sharing your techniques and knowledge! You are awesome!

I was wondering what mixing ratio epoxy you use, mine is 3:1 and the clear just penetrates the metalic epoxy and white tend to flow away on its own. The board was absolutely leveled. Thanks. Does it something thing to do with my epoxy, do I need coating epoxy instead of casting epoxy??

    • @SueFindlay
      @SueFindlay  Před 3 lety

      Thank you, I don't use a blow torch. Some people prefer it. A heat gun comes with different heat settings and can blow your resin as well as heat it. A blow torch is good if you want to create cells and lacing, although, you can still achieve them with a heat gun. 💕

I haven't graduated to using resin yet but this gives me something to look forward to. :) I notice when I apply the acrylic mix to the canvas it doesn't adhere completely (despite being plenty thick) and I get some little patches of white canvas showing through. Is it best to coat the canvas with something first that the paint can bind with? It is an inexpensive canvas. I appreciate your explanations - a true teacher - thank you!

      @@SueFindlay Thank you for your interest. I can't make foam and cells. I can't find what to do for the big foam and wave effect. I mixed it with white epoxy, but when I hold the heat cartridge, it creates a simple image.

    Hi, thanks for the tutorial, when I used this technique, my colors mixed and my waves became very washy with the layer underneath. Would you explain why would this happen? Is there any tips about the viscosity or the concentration of the colors that I should be ware of? Thanks again 🤲

    • @SueFindlay
      @SueFindlay  Před 2 lety +1

      If your colours are blending and running too much. Let them sit for about half an hour before pouring the clear and white layers. If that doesn't work, then try a different brand of resin. Good luck. 💕

    Please can you tell me the best way to get lacing on my waves? Whenever I try and make them, the white just goes all milky with no lacing or cells 😔
    Many thanks.
