OCEAN RESIN ART TIME LAPSE - HOW TO PAINT OCEAN WAVES | LARGE 3D RESIN BEACH ART - HUNTINGTON BEACH

  • I created this large 3D Beach art resin painting in 2020 as a commission for nice couple from California, USA. As always I build wooden panels by myself and I create my resin ocean paintings in layers, which have to be hard as glass before I continue. So patience is the key.
    I use:
    * Cradled wooden panel (handmade by myself)
    * Acrylic Gesso for priming
    * Art Resin
    * GOLDEN Heavy body and High flow Acrylic paints
    * Crushed seashells, sand, pebbles
    * Heat gun

    Lovely work! Quick question if I may. I'm making a similar project but my project does not have a frame; it is solid epoxy (with a couple of strips of wood inside). I'm at a loss about how to hang it. I'll have to attach something directly to the back side. Screws? Nails? Any ideas? Thanks

    • @lindadawnwill
      @lindadawnwill Před 2 lety

      You may have to find a couple spots on the back to drill a couple holes in that will fit over screws in the wall.
      (Of course that may not be an option if the entire piece is translucent)

    • @raskofineart
      @raskofineart  Před 2 lety

      I’m so sorry for late reply. I simply overlooked your comment 😳
      You need to drill directly into epoxy from the back and install some hanging hardware. Keep in mind that epoxy is very heavy, so anything you do, it has to be strong. If the project is very translucent, screws will be visible from front side…

    • @raskofineart
      @raskofineart  Před 9 měsíci +1

      Thank you Steve. It doesn't matter what kind of heat gun you use. It can be done with all of them - just you have to find your approach. I usually use heat on around medium setting - never to hot. Blowtorch is also essential since that extra high temperature makes those little cells. But you have to work quick with it and never overdo the piece. Remember less is more. If you knew how many pieces I've ruined before I found my way of doing this kind of art, you'd be amazed I didn't quit long time ago. There is no "recipe", it is just learning by trial and error, working hard, and never give up! Good luck!

    • @raskofineart
      @raskofineart  Před 2 lety +1

      Yeah, the wood tends to warp. It is alive material and will always "breathe" a little from season to season. You can minimize warping with a few coats of sealer such as GOLDEN or Liquitex Medium (mate or gloss, doesn't matter), and only than primer it with gesso. Someone recommended me XPS foam as a surface for resin art, but I haven't tried it yet. So I can't tell if that works well. It is very dense and not alive material, so it makes sence and I think it shouldn't sag.

      @@raskofineart Thank you so much for the reply. I'll look into all of those tips!
      The last surface I tried pouring resin on is literally a nice uncut counter top from IKEA that I had unused! Hahah it is great size and it didn't warp about anything, but super glossy so the resin didn't distribute perfectly. I didn't prime it well, I think that was the problem.

      I use GOLDEN High Flow Acrylics or GOLDEN Fluid acrylics - Titanium white, all mixed with resin.

    Does anyone have any opinions on odor-free resins? Do they work as well as odor-full resins?

    • @raskofineart
      @raskofineart  Před rokem

      I use Art Resin: www.artresin.com which is odorless, but still for extra safety I use a mask. You only have one pair of lungs ;) Good Luck!

      Thank you, but I don't speak Spanish. Maybe I'll make some Voice-over tutorials in the future, so that you can use CZcams Automatic translation function. Cheers!

      Hi Tommy. It can be done, but take into account that the 3D gap between layers can make a glass somehow unstable. Maybe a leveling top coat wold solve this.

      No, I don’t. The key is to double seal and double gesso your wooden board prior using resin.
