Love the flat-front look. They look retro. Such a cute and fun project!
Thank you for this! While I am going to draft my own trouser pattern for my 7 y/o daughter, I need to watch the assembling. Mums who sew for their kids are awesome! 😍
I've just discovered all your videos and you are by far the best at tutorials for making things! I've become so much better at sewing because of you and your tutorials. Thank you so much!
Girl!!!! Thank you!!! my 1st go at it, hello spring wardrobe. I'm obsessed now. Love your videos, super helpful ♡ wish I could attach my creation, think you would be proud!
I have really enjoyed all of your sewing videos!! I just started sewing in October (my first creation was a chef costume for my son!). I have heavily relied on your videos. They are great because it has really taken away a lot of the fear that I had of sewing! I was scared to cut the fabric, scared to mess something up, and I thought that everything had to be very precise and perfect. Your videos have really shown me that it is not scary! It's fun! I keep finding myself referring to your videos even when watching other tutorials because I love the way you explain everything and your additional commentary you provide while you are working on the task at hand (like when you are pressing a hem, etc).
Thanks so much for sharing! I have watched most of the several, several time! Can't wait for more!
Do you know how many videos I’ve watched that were AWFUL in their explanation of a flat front!?? I had NO idea you did this already. You are such an amazing teacher Dana. Thank you so much for this!!
Aww thank you! I'm glad it helped! Dana
Oh that is genius, you are actually incorporating that front dart into the seam. I love it. I have seen this done on blouses, but putting it into pants is brilliant. Thanks for the ideas.
Thank you for saying sew for the fun of it. I do think I was trying to run a race and I was getting tired of sewing .You give me more inspirations .Thank you pretty lady .
Aw thanks! I'm glad you've found fun in sewing again :)
Thanks, Dana, that’s an excellent tutorial to follow. I have a friend with a three year old boy and a one year old girl so that’s why I’m following you as I normally quilt.
Thank you so much, this is exactly what needed to learn how to do.
Super cute Dana. Thank you so much for sharing!!!
I love your videos :) It's fun and it puts a smile on my face. Thank you for being on CZcams.
Thank you so much.. Mine was perfect.. Love the pattern.. Super happy
This video is so great. How you carried it out was great. It wasn't rushed yet it didn't take forever either. It was in depth and perfect. And the production of the video is great too. This definitely helped me even though I don't have a sewing machine. Guess I just have to keep stitching by hand lol
I love how fun the fabric is!
Your instructions are super easy. Thank you very much Dana. Thank you for explaining each step...
I love your sewing videos. I even bought all your patterns and info on your site. I am hoping as your kids get older you keep the videos going with patterns of preteen clothes. Hard to find any videos on these sizes. Thank you.
I love these shorts. I am Looking forward to making them for my granddaughter.
These shorts are so cute, I just love the fabric! Great tutorial dear!
I really enjoyed this tutorial! However, I was a little bit surprised that you didn't show a way of finishing the edges of your fabric after sewing the initial seams (with a zigzag stitch, serger, or pinking shears) so that they wont fray. Other than this, this was a great and fun tutorial to watch :-)
Hi Dana, I love all your projects. They are shown perfactly & beautifully. God Bless you.
This is great. Love the front look. So cute.
You are in TEXASSSSSSSSSSSSSSS awesome. I love watching you videos
I love your videos! It makes me smile when I get on you tube and it says you have uploaded a new video. I would love a pants tutorial! Maybe for girls! Thanks!
thats a seriously fancy sewing machine. I'm licking threads and using scissors like a caveman overhere! gonna try and make a pair of these for me! love an elastic waist!
Brother makes a machine that threads your needle and cuts your thread also and is a whole lot cheaper than Baby Lock, and works great.

.
Virginia O'Malley please how much does it cost and where can I get it please. Am Nigerian
😁😁😁
@@virginiaomalley Brother and Babylock's are almost the same machines so never understood paying more for a Babylock. The Brother innovis A150 looks identical in terms of buttons and panels to the machine in this video. Similar to Televisions, there are only a couple of Sewing Machine manufacturers in the world making parts and machines. Janome / Elna seem to have the same relationship Brother / Babylock
hey dana! would love to see a tutorial on your heirloom skirt from your blog, or the "semi-handmade" maternity shirt you made on your site with the side ruching!
I’ve never seen anyone tie their thread by hand like you do. I learned how to do it that way many years ago from my mom. Pretty neat 😁
Haha. Awesome!
Thank you for this awesome tutorial.
I got a sewing machine a few years ago, just out of boredom and wanting to try something, but I put it in my closet a few month late, lol.., anyway late last year I took it out, I'm more serious about trying new things and perfecting this art, and your vids are awesome, thanks so much for posting.., I hope one day soon I can take some classes
Glad you're taking it out for a spin! Have fun :)
babylock sewing machine make sewing easier for u because u don’t need to thread the needle manually and cut the thread using scissors.. o wish i have machine like yours!!! happy sewing!!
I love your videos! I'm a beginner and I still understand your videos!
I love the fabric!! 😍
Just what I needed.. Thank you for this video.. Pretty helpful
Great and easy instructions. Thank you!
I think it's funny how she assumes we're sewing moms but I'm just a 14 year old girl learning to sew some shorts for myself 😂

❤❤❤❤ THANK YOU DANA . IT IS SO HELPFUL.
Merci beaucoup je n ai pas tout comprit ce que vous avez dit mais en tous cas vous etes la seule à m avoir montré une manière très simple de coudre un short !
I love this kind of shorts !!! Thanks a lot for this amazing tutorial ! BTW, this length of hair suits you a lot !!!
Haha. Thank you Stelios! - Dana
Never cut off selvedge!
Selvedge makes the cleanest seams & hems w/out having to be overlocked ...
It is the strongest part of the fabric - it never frays!
Sometimes when I've kept the selvedge on a garment, it shrinks and wrinkles differently from the rest of the fabric and requires heavy ironing to look decent. I prefer to always cut off selvedges so the garment behaves in a more regular way.
lindas costuras gracias por compartir Saludos desde.Costa.Rica
Bello! Felicidades buen trabajo!
I've made a few pairs of these. Happy to see the video now :)
i was just reading this on your blog last night, wishing you had a tutorial video! xD
Thanks Katherine. Good timing :) - Dana
Ahaha yes!! Thanks for making these videos. I love your blog :)
looks easy and cool. thanks for the video! it will help me a lot.
Btw, your machine is awesome
Great video! I´ve made three shorts now, and I never sew... really. Would love a similar video on the first day dress, too...
I like your hair style... as well as I like your home made short... 😘
For some reason, these never end up flat in the front for me. I end up with a wrinkle, but this time I added two even “pleats?” There’s too much pant for the waistband. I’m not sure what I am doing wrong. Anyway, adding the pleats worked and made them super cute! I’m using boy shorts with a circle bell hem to make little girl Capri style pants. Thank you for this tutorial, Dana!
Whuuut That ain't ur grandma's sewing machine. LOL. I'm having a bit of machine envy over here.
Brother and Babylock are the same. Brother costs less. All the consumer level machines do the same thing and have the same quality stitch. Get a cheap Brother for button holes, zig-zag and overlock. Get an industrial Juki 8700 for the straight stitch.
Nice and simple way to stich a shorts
Can you make a video on how to make the boy's shorts? I love how the pockets look and I want to try and make something similar but in a more feminine style. Thanks for the great videos.
Jessica Therrien
Could you do a video on how to make a buttonhole? I love your video!
yes I need to! I'll add that to the list :) - Dana
Thanks! Your videos are really great!
Lauren
Will you do a video on how to make a diaper bag
Lauren T ya you should definitely do that
very nice
very cute, I've got to try this
I love it so much fun
👏🏻
plese upload more )): I love your videos and you helped me SO much you don't understand!! xxx
wow so cute I have to make these for myself
Ok just bought the pattern. Will try it out. I’m just a beginner here. Thank you.
Awesome! Have fun sewing shorts!
Brilliant video! Thanks so much!
I love this pattern! I wish it went up a few more sizes say to size 14 or 15.
I love everything about your videos and have made a ew patterns for my granddaughter who i s now two. Thank you for sharing your work! Its much appreciated. It would be great learning though, if you had tutorials on how to draft the patterns,; or just noted the measurements on the patterns along the lines. For one, it would save paper, and for those like me who dont own a printer at home, copyshop charges for printing can add up.
Thank you Janaki! That's good to know! This particular pattern is one that I sell in my shop, so I'm just showing you the steps, rather than the measurements. But that's a good idea to share a video about creating a pattern. You can see a little bit of that in my "Leggings" video, where we trace around an existing pair of leggings:

Thank you for watching and chiming in! I appreciate the comment! - Dana
Thanks for the video. I so do love your sewing room. It is so professional looking ( media presentation-wise). The lighting is perfect. I do have a question. How much overage is needed for the back to accomplish this look?
Great one! And your kids have grown so much!
Haha -- yes they have!
missed you, great video.....
I just found this I always wondered how you did elastic only in the back. Thanks much
I love that you sew the actual projects in the videos for us to see. Could you make these using a drawstring? What is your favorite machine?
Yes, you can add a drawstring. You can do a faux one like I did here on these pjs: czcams.com/video/Oscgt5W0y3o/video.html
Or, if you want a full drawstring around, you'd need to make buttonholes in the front middle, for the string to come in and out.
You can read about my sewing machine on my blog here: www.madeeveryday.com/2014/11/my-new-sewing-machine-and-how-to-pick-your-own.html/
i love love love this
excellent work
I need these shorts in size grown up!
I’ve already made a dozen or so of them. Made my own pattern.
SUPER EASY! very good work again girl. LIKE
Since the back pieces are wider than the front I'm assuming because it has an elastic back, how do you determine math wise how much wider to make the back as opposed to a typical pair of pants were maybe you were using a normal waistband as opposed to using an all elastic waistband what is the formula, thanks.
Hi Dana!! I am a big fan! I watched almost everyone of your videos twice! My favorite is the circle skirt. I download templates online but they don't always fit. Can you teach us how to create these templates using our specific measurements? I would be insanely helpful.
I generally recommend making a pattern from a garment in your closet that already fits. Or you can always start with a commercial pattern!
MADE Everyday
Lovely video. I wunder why you don't serge or zigzag. Looks to me that the side- and croch seams are going to fray in the washmachine.
Im just learning to sew but was wondering the same thing
Maybe she's gonna use pinking shears to finish? She only apparently wants the shorts to last one summer, maybe they're not gonna be washed many times.
What I said also. I’m assuming that she is assuming ( we are all assuming ) that we already know to finish the seams.
very beautiful
instant subscription. thank you.
Another awesome tutorial! P.S Love the shorter hair!!!
haha. Thanks!
Hey Dan, this tutorial is super cool. and ur pin cushion is even more cool. Do u have a tutorial for that?😊
So good mam. Well done and salute👌👌👌👌👌👌👌
Thnks for info... Well explained
Nice short
I love this, good job.
Thanks!
Thank goodness for this video! The pattern I bought just confused me
Nice...short ...thank you..dear..
Hi Dana! I’m a total newbie to sewing. What trick/steps can I do if I use your pattern, but want to make the shorts a little more tapered around the thigh? Thank you!
love the detail on your son's shorts! did you use bias binding?
Thanks -- piping! Check out how to insert it here: czcams.com/video/KRnErmpV48Y/video.html
MADE Everyday Thanks! I'll definitely watch it.
So nice, I would also learn
I noticed you didn't finish your seams off, do you usually zigzag them?
diane dunc5عغي تنan ع5اءلئ شي ببئ
Thank you for putting this video it help , thank you one more time
What type of paper should i print your pattern out with and can i print it as big as it is with a home printer?
I love it
I love you channel! Could you do a video on how to make a cute poncho/cape for toddler? Please :)
You don't mention clipping the seams, or zig zag over the edges to stop fraying, do you recommend either? I have always pressed the seams out from the centre to each side unless doing a French seam or something, your way looks simpler, but cotton will fray won't it.
