    I have really enjoyed all of your sewing videos!! I just started sewing in October (my first creation was a chef costume for my son!). I have heavily relied on your videos. They are great because it has really taken away a lot of the fear that I had of sewing! I was scared to cut the fabric, scared to mess something up, and I thought that everything had to be very precise and perfect. Your videos have really shown me that it is not scary! It's fun! I keep finding myself referring to your videos even when watching other tutorials because I love the way you explain everything and your additional commentary you provide while you are working on the task at hand (like when you are pressing a hem, etc).
    Thanks so much for sharing! I have watched most of the several, several time! Can't wait for more!

However, I was a little bit surprised that you didn't show a way of finishing the edges of your fabric after sewing the initial seams (with a zigzag stitch, serger, or pinking shears) so that they wont fray. Other than this, this was a great and fun tutorial to watch :-)

    Never cut off selvedge!
    Selvedge makes the cleanest seams & hems w/out having to be overlocked ...
    It is the strongest part of the fabric - it never frays!

    • @Marialla.
      @Marialla. Před 5 lety +2

      Sometimes when I've kept the selvedge on a garment, it shrinks and wrinkles differently from the rest of the fabric and requires heavy ironing to look decent. I prefer to always cut off selvedges so the garment behaves in a more regular way.

    For some reason, these never end up flat in the front for me. I end up with a wrinkle, but this time I added two even “pleats?” There’s too much pant for the waistband. I’m not sure what I am doing wrong. Anyway, adding the pleats worked and made them super cute! I’m using boy shorts with a circle bell hem to make little girl Capri style pants. Thank you for this tutorial, Dana!

It would be great learning though, if you had tutorials on how to draft the patterns,; or just noted the measurements on the patterns along the lines. For one, it would save paper, and for those like me who dont own a printer at home, copyshop charges for printing can add up.

      Yes, you can add a drawstring. You can do a faux one like I did here on these pjs: czcams.com/video/Oscgt5W0y3o/video.html
      Or, if you want a full drawstring around, you'd need to make buttonholes in the front middle, for the string to come in and out.

    You don't mention clipping the seams, or zig zag over the edges to stop fraying, do you recommend either? I have always pressed the seams out from the centre to each side unless doing a French seam or something, your way looks simpler, but cotton will fray won't it.
