Y'know, i don't know if you remember this, but Joe announced years ago that he was a part of Maker studios when Disney bought them (specifically under Polaris). so technically he is on disney's payroll.
Just some food for thought. The April 1 video he discussed this in was just him joking about being forced to be family-friendly, didn't necessarily rule out he might have to shill a bit.

Full-on glowy Binary form might beat out Thor without a weapon. And she can also just drain Thor's lightning. All in all they're probably on par. If you want to hit something REALLY hard though, I'd still pick Stormbringer.

I saw both Alita Battle Angel and Captain Marvel last Thursday, and if a CGI cyborg can show more emotion than a real human face, then you are doing something wrong.

It wasnt CGI emotions, it was the actors emotions captured. Actor vs actor in this case. Alita wont move unless she is mocapped, and the tech is amazingly accurate.
It's not fair to compare because Alita it's going against two actresses (Brie Larson and her butt)

Alita's plot is a fucking mess, It's not clear what it is, the movie is decided to several subplots that Don't go anywhere,
While Captain Marvel has 1 plot that goes from A to B.
A good story, have a good plot, like Avatar the last Airbender,
The plot is to end the war by defeating the Fire lord,
Lord of the Ring,
The plot is to stop sawrans army by destroying the Ring,
What is Alita's Plot?
Thought so.
2- Characters
Besides Alita, who else contributed to the Plot?
Ido is the father figure.
Hugo the love interest.
Vector the bad guy.
Chiver is.............wait, what is she again?
While Captain Marvel has actual characters.
3- Chimestry.
Alita and Hugo's romance is the weakest part of the movie,
While Cap & Nick fury's relationship is the strongest part.
So yes, you could say the SJW Cap. Marvel is better than Alita, even with It's flaws, it still does things better than Alita did.

He just layed there and when she was done he sent her flying. She ran up on Thanos and he knocked her out in one hit, while Thor goes blow for blow and puts up a better fight in the same conflict. The Mcu could make her the most powerful hero but in comic continuity she's not.

I noticed a small flaw in the writing, too. Colson refers to SHIELD, but in iron man, which takes place a decade later, he says they haven’t thought of a name yet

Brie Larson’s portrayal came off condescending when she was being sarcastic. Also there was no struggle she had to overcome

I just saw the film, Brie is not emotionless like the trailers made her seem. In fact, her acting is a hell of alot better than Gal's. I believed Brie to be the character she's portraying, throughout the film.
I wont spoil anything, but I'll say that Captain Marvel, despite not remembering her past, had emotion throughout, she cracked jokes. She had a good reason to emotionless, but wasnt. Either Marvel tricked us with the trailers, or they reshot scenes after the first trailer dropped.
Onto Scarlet Witch, come on, Fox had the X-Men film rights for so long. That's why she wasnt op, didnt warp realities in the MCU like in the comics.
Captain Marvel, no film rights issues, and after seeing the film, I cant wait to see her kick Thanos' ass. However, she will cetainly have trouble, because Thanos has the Infinity Gauntlet. Im pretty sure she cant overpower the Infinity Stones themselves, not alone. And odds are, Thanos mustve heard of her while doing his thing through the universe.

My take on the politics (as a white man), is that they could have made the movie with whatever message/undertones you wanted. Kept the politics out of it and done the normal promoting, get it all hyped up, and then if it comes back with great audience reviews and does really well, you can say "see? strong female characters are doing great."
But it just seems, and I'm not saying Brie Larson did this on purpose, that there needs to be that "headbutting" between strong female characters and the audience to reinforce the idea that men hate strong women so that there is an angle for feminists to work. I think men are fine with strong women, as long as they're authentically strong, and not just trying to butch up and act like a man. I'm not sure how to define a strong woman, there are certainly better people to do that than me, but when you try to portray a woman as strong by just making her act like a man, it comes off as really phony and fake.

My point is that then Brie came out before the movie was released and basically said "I bet men are going to hate this because it has a strong female lead." Almost daring men to not go see it and putting them at odds with the strong female lead. If she hadn't said anything like that, and the movie flopped then she could have made that point, if it was successful then she could say "Huh I guess men don't have a problem with strong women." But in coming to that conclusion, it kinda disproves the whole modern feminist trope that men hate strong women. But since she did say it, its kinda guaranteeing that there would be some headbutting. Wow! This review stirred up some emotions. I definitely don't think you should judge a movie over individual actor's actions because that bias shines through. I saw the movie today, went in with low expectations and came out with a rather good impression. It's not the best marvel movie but it sure isn't the worst. Imo, it sits comfortably above average. The weakest part of it is how Carol got her powers since there was little to no explanation for how that "just worked". Other than that, it was fine. Just fine. As for good'ol Brie, well, what she said and how she said it was clumsy and stupid. The end.

I think she's a pretty good character for little girls to look up to.
She always got back up, no matter how many times she got knocked down. She went through boot camp in a time when women weren't allowed to fly and kept pushing forward, no matter what she was told.

Most of the movie I was thinking to myself "why is this a superhero movie", it was mostly just talk, relationships and flashbacks. Like a mediocre episode of Star Trek:TNG where they stay on the holodeck the whole episode and don't really do anything with the ship. Then at the end they warped off at warp nine, no real explanation for her powers. Boring personality and character arch too imo, thought she was a bit joyless and one-dimensional.
Alita on the other hand had a weird script but did keep me fascinated all the way through.
One of the most rational thoughts of the movies I've ever seen.

A lot of people see a minority or a female as the lead in the movie and they automatically assume it’s going to be a movie talking about how the lead characters race/gender is better than being white/being a man. People say this movie is super liberal and pushes a “woman rule” feel throughout the movie, but not once was it ever even implied that women are stronger than men. However all the people that say that didn’t see the movie and aren’t going to watch the movie to see that they’re wrong

You hit the nail on the head. Its been a while since the last Marvel dud(Antman and the wasp maybe?), considering how awesome Black Panther, infinity war, civil war, thor ragnorak, and GotG. Maybe Dr. Strange but that movie's identity is its visuals, not really the script.
I blame it ultimately on the Captain Marvel directors being relative nobodies, like some of the phase 1 movies. Meanwhile Gunn, Coogler, Waititi, and the Russo Brothers really hit their films out of the park.

Was it? Wonder Woman started well, but it managed to completely undermine its message in the third act, which was just awful. Captain Marvel struggles a little bit with the exposition dumb it has to deliver in the first act, but it provides a satisfying third act which wraps up the themes of the movie perfectly. So if you like Wonder Woman better, all power to you. But I would argue against the notion that it is objectively better.

I just don't buy being softer on the movie because it "sets them up to have a good film next time." Good films and characters are good on their own merit, regardless of past or future installments. Raiders of the Lost Arc didn't need to take one movie to introduce and establish Indiana Jones so it could be good the next time around - it was great the first time. The same for Ripley in Alien. Neo and Morpheus in The Matrix. Marty and Doc in Back to the Future. Tony Stark in Iron Man. The Guardians in Guardians of the Galaxy. The franchise list goes on and on. Often the best ones ARE the first movies that set up the characters and world. These movies establish great characters and make a good movie the first time around. If a movie couldn't do that in one film, it's judged as such, not given a soft pass or bonus points with "Well, it was necessary to get the boring stuff out of the way so we can maybe, possibly, potentially, set up a good film next time." Good films don't need to do that. They are good as they are, within their own runtime.

Just because Captain Marvel is supposed to be stoic because she's a soldier doesn't make it good. Soldiers aren't always just robots, they have a personality. Carol Danvers here was just so uninteresting, and it's really disappointing because the comic version actually CAN have personality. My favourite iteration of Carol Danvers is actually in the Spider-Verse comic. At the end Spider-Woman talks to her about leaving the Avengers. They feel so much like friends, Carol is playful talks about missing Spider-Woman. In the MCU she just always has a look on her face that makes it look like she's so full of herself. Rarely does she ever act playful with her powers
Don’t let this distract the fact that Batman beat Superman without the power suit in the animated series (better than the movie fight btw), escaped with Kryptonite, found out his identity by allowing him to tackle him just to place a tracker and slept with Lois Lane! All in a days work lol

I'm wondering if Joe is such a big DC fan, he really liked Wonder Woman after seeing it because it was a turn of the tide for DC movies. That made it really good in comparison, but not from an objective film criticism point.
The big thing you’re missing here that is extremely crucial is that although his opinion of Captain Marvel is lower than his opinion was for wonder woman, his critique is separate from his biased opinion. Maybe if everybody’s favorite reviewer understood the difference between their own bias and a fair review we would have a different experience with critics.

This is the review that makes sense. If you watch the movie itself and not give a shit about what's said outside of it, it's not a bad film, but it's not close to perfect at all. It's definitely a 6.5 - 7.5 out of 10.

I watched the movie because I love Sam Jacksons work, and this movie isn't any different. You can tell he truly loved working on the movie and with his costars. Not because I love soap boxes.

I guess its weird because giving a movie a 1/10 is extremely harsh, and in my perspective, it would mean the film failed in every possible avenue(maybe like the room, but that film has stuff going for it seeing it struck a chord with the audience) In terms of 10/10s, idk, I've seen critics like Armond White irrationally love movies like transformers. And I know people in real life whose tastes are trash from a critics perspective, but they fall in love with every movie they watch. Not to mention every popular movie has nerds that will believe its the best movie they've watched.
At the end of the day, maybe Captain Marvel is painfully mediocre or derivative to people who watched it but rating it a 1/10 in the volume its getting is clearly brigading. It would not get the reaction it's getting if it wasn't for shitty marketing and the anti-3rd wave feminism crowd.
However I think we can all agree that user reviews online are useless given how nerdy and defensive people get about their movies, and the best way to know if you'll like it, is to ask your IRL friends, listen to critics you like, or see it yourself.
It doesn't help that we, as a people, believe 9/10s and 10/10s should be common.
When 5/10 is meant to be "This is an OK movie". It's supposed to be "The average".
But it's not the average...not by a long shot.

They compared it to Wonder woman, which they loved save for 1 act, but, this film with 2 huge flawed acts and a decent but kinda power fantasy and little else finale gets the same score.
Its just an inconsistent rating, one that seems motivated to placate the outrage for daring to decry a movie that is being marketed as a culture movement.
Film was decent, but, I agree with Lopez on the 6.
Also the language and the tip toeing around everything makes me wonder how much of this rating was softened because they knew if they gave it the 5-6 it likely deserves, they would get crucified online for being white male reviewers or whatever.
Dude this isn’t a review outlet that has to explain every second of the movie in detail. He reviews movies based on his opinion and he liked the movie. Why does he have to be lying or scared just because he gave it this rating? This was by far the more controversial rating. If anything it felt like he was trying to stay away from saying good things about it because he knew the backlash he’d get from the people who hate it. His channel is great because he goes out of his way to keep his reviews purely his personal thoughts and experience with the game or movie. He enjoyed it. He gave it a 7. That’s all there is to it. If you need more then watch someone else

Well according to everyone outside of CZcams.
Then Captain Marvel.
Proof being that Captain Marvel got a higher score then Shazam. Also she is far more popular in India and Brazil and mostly everyone.
Including the USA and Canada, it seems Captain Marvel was appealing to both adults and children.
While adults didnt like Shazam. But the children liked it.
So, outward appeal. Captain Marvel seems to be the better film in the general public.
Saw it, it was ok. Dont remember most of the movie. 5/10.
