Pure organic witch hazel extract is a time-tested ingredient in DIY natural deodorant sprays. Distilled from the twigs and bark of the witch hazel tree, the extract lowers the skin’s pH, so odor-causing bacteria cannot thrive. It is gentle enough to be used alone or can be combined with herbs and essential oils, and it also does double-duty as a skin toner.
This homemade deodorant spray recipe brings together the soothing powers of witch hazel extract with balanced essential oils that make them perfect for just about everybody. And, once you have the knack for making it, you can customize the aromatics to make them your own.

Can we use distilled water instead of witch hazel?
The witch hazel is there to help preserve the solution and boost the sanitation of the bottle. I don't think distilled water would work the same way. Hope that helps!
Ok, ya, so similar question as others have asked, the cedar wood and juniper are used necessarily for any extra bacteria fighting reason? Just one of a million combinations you could use?
Thank you for checking in! As long as the dilution ratio is the same you are welcome to experiment with using different essential oils in this recipe. I hope that helps! 🌿
Do you have a natural deodorant stick recipe?
Hey Indranie! This recipe can be poured into a deodorant stick: blog.mountainroseherbs.com/diy-herbal-deodorant-recipe
Thank you
Awesome. Can this be made with different EO? I’m new to the herbal and essential oil community. Would love some ideas for this.
Yes of course! I would probably suggest staying away from citrus peel oils and strong mints and always do a small patch test to make sure you wont react at all. If you click the link in the video, you can see the full blog and another scent suggestion :) Let us know what you end up creating! - Gracie
@@mountainroseherbs Thank you. I will do that. Excited to try it.
@@mountainroseherbs I just went on website and ordered the Witch Hazel Extract. Can’t wait to get it and try out the Sweet Orange and Veviter deodorant spray. I think this will make excellent Christmas gifts.
So a person could use .
Diesel and liquid smoke. To smell like a truck driver.
@@andrewsparks4112 🤣Good one! But seriously that would be so bad for your health. 😵😬
Does it have to be these 2 essential oils or any work?
Hi Alex! The witch hazel is doing the lion's share of the work in these blends. The essential oils are intended as fragrances, but chosen to work with the witch hazel and the body's natural pH to assist with odor control. You can feel free to customize the essential oils to work well for you and your needs :)
