यह एक बहुत ही संवेदनशील टेस्ट है जो पूरे body scan करते समय किया जाता है।
यह एक radioisotope का उपयोग करता है जो human's blood sugar से संबंधित होता है।
इसलिए जिन अंगों में high glucose accumulation होता है वो चमकीले रंगों में दिखाई देते हैं।
Brain, Heart, liver और kidneys जैसे अंग चमकीले orange से reddish रंग में दिखाई देते हैं।
अगर inflammation होती है, तो रंग अधिक चमकीला होता है, जो cancer या infection का संकेत हो सकता है।
इसलिए surgery के तुरंत बाद PET scan की सलाह नहीं दी जाती है।
cancer के मामले में, रंग काफी चमकीला होता है।

Lung cancer में, cancerous cells दिखाई दे सकती हैं।
लेकिन mediastinum nodes में, भारत में Tuberculosis की उपस्थिति के कारण यह positive uptick दिखाता है।
फिर भी, lung cancer के treatment का निर्धारण करने के लिए PET scan बहुत जरूरी है।
Treatment के बाद, treatment की response का निर्धारण करने के लिए हर 3 months बाद PET scan दोहराया जाता है।
