My Audi R8's TWIN Gets A CARBON FIBER Steering Wheel Installed

- More R8 Videos? I gotchu. My friend Patrick reached out and told me he had a couple things he wanted to do to his 2014 Audi R8 V8 with the dual clutch. I said bring it over, we'll knock it right out. We pulled his rear wheels off to install spacers, making the rear look just a tiny bit wider. Then swapped his stock leather steering wheel for a carbon and alcantara one that really completes the interior, it even has red stitching to match. It didn't take long to knock out two mods that make a big difference!

the antiseize was for the spacers
No freaking way that dude had R8 ear plugs in.... that's like unlocking a new level of Cringe lol. To each their own.
was looking for this comment.
I hear you. In general, those big gauge ear plugs are fucking hideous looking (and yeah, the R8 ones are absolutely next level cringe). Frankly, the only thing that looks worse is when they take them out!
When you're punk at heart, but have money.....
I'm embarrassed for him! Lol
I hate men with earrings, even more with those stupid plugs or whatever you call them.
Those ear rings, is that middle age crisis?
Or owning an Audi R8?
@@thecman26 Yes but you do not need to have those type of earings, maybe a bracelet, or a ring, or a watch, a cap, something tasteful, but that?
Patiently waiting for him to sell a shirt that says "Not Like This". lol
IKR!😁👍
Bunker Branding would probably make/update his shirts when he gets >1M subs
Wearing R8 popsockets in your ear is the next step from the Ferrarri jacket and hat?
Next step? Like 10 steps...
Having a Ferrari Jacket and Hat likely means you're an enthusiast, but this guy literally has his car model on his ears, that really is next level.
Imagine a guy that has F8 Tributo on his ears, jeez.
I was thinking the same haha
😭😭
I like the chopped carbon wheels. So nice.
I wish everything was forged carbon, love it 🔥🔥🔥
Are you sure the instructions said to put anti seize on the lug bolts? I understand you're supposed to add it to the collar the wheel spacer slips over. It's my understanding that lug bolts and lug nuts partly rely on the friction of the threads to prevent them from backing out under vibration.
Just a FYI suggestion from someone who has worked in a tire shop... Always run the lug bolts in once by hand before putting the wheel on. That way you can make sure you don't cross thread and you have the correct thread pattern. One little burr can mess up your whole day and cost major $$$$. Loving the videos. It's good to see someone actually doing work on the videos and not just flapping their gums about doing work. We also would like a update on what is going on with the BMW suv giveaway...
Here I am hoping to see you fix the tailgate on an obscure GMC and we get this.
That video was like a two hour long edit so I'm saving it for tomorrow 😂
He's trying his hardest to provide auto content for us, don't sweat him :L
Me too . Lol
His r8 plugs are dope too
I have Toyota Corolla ear plugs, but I don't flaunt them.
Whats up with the antiseize on lug nuts ? Rule of thumb was always never to have anything on threads. ( backing out ). Perhaps it was for the hub portion of spacer
Got a hoist and working 12 inches off the floor. Lmao.
I said the same thing but in his defense that set up has know for dropping tires off due to the lug nuts so thats the safe way tl keep the tire on the car
Watching you connect and reinstall the airbag reminded me of Iron Man when Pepper is installing the new Arc reactor in Tony’s chest 😂
Well we know what the car he teased is now. I thought I recognized that door handle. Love a good c5
I have no idea what you could be talking about 🙈
3:02 R8 ear plugs a bit excessive, no?
Only if he didn't actually own one.
Pumping out those videos son...💯💥😎
As a general rule do not put anti-seize on lug nuts. Lubricants change the torque value by up to 20% or more, meaning the dry torque value of your lug nut is now an unknown value and you easily over torque or elongate the bolt. The anti-seize compound was intended to be used on the mating surface of the spacer.
On a less technical side I prefer the Racingline aftermarket paddles. The paddles on the 2nd gen R8 were really pathetic and if you replace your wheel it is an absolute must to upgrade the shifters as well.
This guy is gonna be me one day with R8 gauges in my ears because ultimate dream car. That's freaking awesome.
‘Should be really easy’ is your go-to line JR - LOL!
Quick tip... save the plastic caps that come on new batteries and use them when you have to disconnect cables to prevent stiff cables from contacting the terminal. I have a handful of them in the top of my box.
Wow . Patrick’s R8 is just beautiful. He’s a lucky guy. Thanks JR for making this .
BTW . Agree with him on the 8 cylinder engine being powerful enough.
V8 or v10, they are both just sooooooo good. I noticed the r8 earrings too.
Love your channel man 1 of the best CZcamsrs always loon forward to your vids man
Is this JR’s R8?
NO THIS IS PATRICK!
Need another lunch at Stearman man! Car looks and sounds great as always.
Really enjoy watching you work on stuff...there isn't much that stops you in your tracks. Wish my brain worked like yours! LOL!
This was a really fun video to watch. Such a nice guy. Thank you for doing this for him JR.
Sup man. Always look foward to your content. And you do listen to the fans
Do all R8’s have a check engine light on?
Yes, and all twin turbo cars especially, there's not one out there without it. It's how you know everything is working right 🍻
The check engine light is on to remind u that u have an engine. 😂😂😂
Anything German lol it's normal
Shouldn't the anti-seize go between the rotor and spacer and not the lugs?
Probably not a bad idea but these have notches to put a screwdriver behind, it shouldn't ever get stuck 🍻
I keep a small piece of black rubber to slap over the post. No more Sparks. And another fine Job.
as a motorcycle mechanic i appreciate comments like this one. i've sparked a few batteries doing fuel injector mods like Power Commanders, and now I wont ever do it again.
@@SixWheelsDown I picked it up by working on old school choppers.
Never been this early. Always great content!
Tony Stark putting the arc reactor in his chest
Exactly!
I was going to ask if this car was in the movie. It's a sweet ride I'm sure parts are not cheap
Your videos are very interesting and entertaining. I appreciate that there are no language issues.
Just a suggestion for the sport cars/ lowered cars and swing arm 2 post lifts. I had 2 2"X8"X10' boards that I would throw down and pull my Camaro onto to make it easier to get the swing arms under the car. It was much easier than jacking the car up every time I wanted to lift it. I ended up just leaving them in the lift bay since it made no difference to if cars were already tall enough. You learn quickly as to where they are when working under a car and having to maneuver around them.
Dont put spacers on your front axles. Scrub radius and entire suspension geometry changes. Your bearings and entire front suspension will wear faster since the wheel is further away from everything.
You have a good point. JRGo could do it OK though because . . . wait for it . . . He never drives his fricken R8!
10 mm is not very much, you get into the 20-30 mm 100%
@@jamesreeve1729 i put 12mm once and took it right off. Made the car handle completely different and the steering feel was also changed. That in addition to the wear on the front suspension is why I never run front spacers.
Tip from an old guy---grab a few old couch cushions and keep them available for kneeling on while working on vehicles. You'll appreciate this advice in a few years, trust me!
1:39 The R8 was "Reunited" with JR, finally 😁
3:54 It is a shame we missed the live action... Glad everything went fine.
"It's probably straight forward." is a statement that mean such a different thing here then it does on 100% Jake's channel!
What was the point of using the lift if you were gonna do the work on your knees anyway? It's a lot easier to work with wheels at chest height.
The blades on that R8 looked like they were painted black! That dude has to get the carbon fiber blades for his ride to make it next level cool!😎
If the twin turbo setup on your R8 is so troublesome, then surely you'd be better off going back to near stock (with some basic mods) so you have a "fast enough" car you can thrash around like this dude's, plus not having to worry about blowing holes in your pistons. The turbo kit must be worth a few bucks to sell on too!
Now that's one hell of a car, but where's all the cheap Suv stuff 🤔
Coming up tomorrow 💯
V8 power baby
No torque wrench on the wheels?
my dude got r8 wheel center caps for earings!
Did I miss what happened to the BMW M5 giveaway? The winner never claimed it?
You mean the X5 (M5 is a totally different vehicle). Correct. JR said, he'll do another drawing. Not sure when he's planning that, but stay tuned
@@brantleyhudson2892 lol. Thanks, yeah, I didn't realized I wrote the wrong model until after I posted. I appreciate your response.
Never seize on lug nuts never did that before hope they don't back out I thought that went on the back of the spacer
Yep, it's meant for the back of the spacers.
7:10 no way, that airbag is Made in Romania! Who would have guessed.
JR'S watch ⌚ has made as many episodes as JR himself 😆🤣😂
Beautiful automobile with tasteful upgrades and I’m not an Audi fanboy. I may have to rethink that.
You know a bloke loves his car when he has a ear popsockets logo 🤣.
Good looking R8!
Nice vise grip garage reference Jr lol
Also, thats the same T-Shirt you had on in the last video. Lol
"It's probably straightforward.:
Famous. Last. Words. :)
The anti seize is for the spacers JR!!!
14:20 nice Goldwing :)
you could have threaded the bolts on without the wheels first, then remove the nuts put on the wheels
I usually take the lugs to the wire wheel and clean the paint off the threads, no reason why there should be paint on threads
I had a steering wheel with a part carbon rim on my Porsche 996 Turbo, which came as standard with the carbon interior pack. When I was down at my house in the south of France, the carbon would get hot enough to blister my palms. As a result, I always had to remember when leaving it outside, to either put the very fiddly sun shade up (trying to fold this up again to get it in its bag was a job for a contortionist, with three arms) or drape a towel over the steering wheel. As a result, I would not now have a carbon wheel as a gift.
It's nice to see motor vehicles in every video again :-), If you are taking request... Save some old, known good model pick up trucks. :-P
Whatttt? You uploaded early. So are the wavy rotors ceramic as well? They looked like ceramic.
These wave rotors are steel, ceramics are typically round, but in 2020 I think they did a wave ceramic (possibly for the Huracan Evo and R8 Performance) 🍻
Beautiful car, beautiful sounding too. Always enjoy the content!
Those gauges in his ears....does he know he's not 22? Cool car though.
Old man trying to look 20.😁😁😁
If he can afford an R8 he should keep doing whatever he’s doing.
He has an among us shirt too lol
To each his own
His ear . Young at heart .
Is that howie? Haha
Does every car in Kansas have a check engine light on?
And one headlight burned out.
You shouldn't use anti seize on lugs. It changes the fiction coefficient and stresses the lug bolts more at the same torque numbers in essence creating an over torqued situation
If they are different metals, would it help to rub on a smidge of Anti-Seize between the hub & wheel spacer, and between the spacer & wheel? Also, did you torque the wheel bolts?
Lmao, video about swapping a carbon fiber wheel onto 14' Audi R8
CZcams algorithm:
Next suggested video from CZcams - Chrysler Concorde review from RCR 😂
Another great one, thank you for my the daily dose of car joy!
That check engine light
Sweet R8 . Looked like a fairly straight forward job today.
The corvette c5 is the next project car
Plastic pry tools would have made that steering wheel work really easy. But still. Good job!
You keep teasing us with that Vette!
Not sure why you would put spacers on the car. Good luck with future alignments now that you thrown the front end geometry off. Tire wear will probably suffer as well but, whatever floats your boat!
I really need that "not like this" shirt
Patrick is a real r8 enthusiast... even he’s ear plates are “r8”.
I like this car a lot. Sadly I’m too poor for fancy cars like that. Gotta stick with my Nissan Versa. Though... versa is good too... “in its own way😂”
Wheel spacers and aftermarket steering wheels? Did this guy grow up as a civic owning rice boy or what? I am sure those mods really made a big performance difference lol
Edit: Oh god I just saw those earrings. 100% confirms my previous question
2:20 Left his indicator on
Nice car! Great sounds!
JR needs to put an Ad in Craigslist "Do you need to work on your car? Need a HVAC'ed shop with car lifts and tools? Please come use my shop for free....I'll just need to video record you to show on the Internet"
Always nice to see the R8 on the channel
does he have r8 ears??
Love it
Small truth I was hoping this was a JR R8 Video . Love to see more of that car and what is going on with it
You need to get a pair of these:
www.suncoastparts.com/product/99957107430.html
1 works fine on reg disk wheels, 2 for carbon disks. Much easier to align the wheel back on. Cheapest part you'll ever buy from Porsche and work on other brands that use lug bolts.
German cars don't need a check engine light. They could save some money simply by replacing it with a sticker on the instrument cluster.
Was the "fact tree" comment a shout out to vice grip garage?
How reliable are these R8s. Dont know much about Audi but loves the look.
Stock? Crazy reliable, tons with 100k miles on them 🍻
Who says JRGo just does whoopties? What's a race ramp for a lift, & when do we get to see the trans table? Thanks JRGo . . . PS get that music going!
I can't imagine there's a large market for R8 gauges but who knows.......hey what do you drive? Wait, nevermind
Any update on the X5?
When the winner will be picked?
Awesome video!
0:39 The new project car? 😁
Yay R8 content!
Dudes R8 gauges tho...😂
Oh car-bone fibber!
It wouldn't be a vw product without a CEL lol
Looks good brother, how comfortable are they to drive with
What was wrong with the Factory Steering wheel
