To Ghanaians, this is very interesting. Like Reggy, there are a lot of Ghanaians who primarily have an English last name who have a history like this. Thanks for sharing.

Especially those with ancestors from the coastal regions like Sekondi, Takoradi, Cape Coast, Accra etc. Many of them have English surnames and a few have Dutch surnames, so it’s intriguing to learn the history behind those surnames.

The Colonists legitimized the theft of Africa's prized minerals such as diamonds, gold, copper and African bodiess for mining what did not belong to Britain! How was it possible for Britain to gain such a foothold in such a large continent as Africa?!

Britain's success succeeded the fall of the Roman Empire, when Britain became an industrial powerhouse for the world and claimed World Empire status. Thus with good sail ships, a strong military might and sea defence, Britain went conquering the world laying down the Union Jack in every resource rich country, (subduing any people they considered "primative savages" along the way), it could discover.

First they came to trade goods long before they became slave traders. In Ghana's case the British did not just take over the country. They fought the British for 200 years because they insisted on taking what never belonged to them. The traditional stool of the Ashanti kings.
