Two take away for me in Reggie’s story are: 1. AFRICAN women have always been hardworking; 2. There’s a history of abandonment in Reggie’s family. His great great grand father was not in the life of Sarah and Dorothy, and Reggie’s father wasn’t in his life either. That’s some weird parallel to draw.
Generational trauma is not weird.
He is so lucky to know this, there are a lot of people in the west who want answers like this
His Dad and Mum are Ghana
Pure Breed
He is working to find out, and that is how it is done.
Pure Breed hi 👋 I’m in the same boat suggest www.africanancestry.com they don’t sell your dna info after the test they distroy the sample. Hope this helps their on Facebook also
it can be a lot of work but you would be suprised by how much you can find out sometimes today
Oh dear beautiful Reggie, we are all so happy how you've been able to piece the past all together. Traveling to those parts of the world to find answers is what we all should do. Finding out youe heritage opens doors, I wish more people would do what you have done. I will be following along with everyone to see where you go next. God bless and keep you Reggie xoxoxo.
Reggie...what a great family history/lineage....
Reggie is always natural, humble and well mannered 🕊️🙏
I believe in my heart that when Reggie becomes a father,he will stand by and for his children like his grandfather Harry did for his father.💯💕👼🌾🌄
Ghanaian's are wonderful people.
Yes, we are.
No they are not. They are not friendly.. they are terrible people.
@@dionmyles2154 Yes, there is also that part of us as humans. Duality. Good, bad and the in between all coexisting at once. Thank u for sharing.
Yes they are‼️ from SA 🇿🇦
@Christopher Nana Kofi Guggisberg miserable like your entire family. Miserable like your country. Miserable like you. Miserable like all your friends. I could care less what u call me but it is what it is...
I dont know him, but he has a beautiful voice and charming smile.
He is a presenter who co hosted some famous shows aimed at youngster and teen on British television. He matured into making documentaries. Very talented guy
Reggie such an honor for you to have libations poured for your ancestors - Such a proud moment your smile as you were welcomed home to Ghana with the liquor encouraged by your Great Grandmother - A Spiritual return
Reggie, you are part of a very long line of love, which span from nation to nation and people who knew no cultural devide.
Go Reggie, go and find yourself in the history of our people in Africa.
Safe journeys let the spirits of your ancestors be your guide. I did the same during the early 50s. Now my children have their footprints in Africa.
We are paying for your success.
That's my home town
Am going to find my family as well
Thank you for sharing your beautiful story.
i hope thru his new knowledge of his roots he and his family can build new bonds and a respect and love for those before them.
Gosh this is fascinating. I love the story but also listening to the Fante language is fascinating. Takes me back to 2008 when I went to Cape Coast and just sat on the beach listening to people speaking.
It's funny being African American your complexion is what our family looks like and it is common. But I guess being blended is part of the course of it all. Not only through colonialism but just people mixing with people via trade, exchange and visiting long before the ghastly colonial/afro-slavery part of the human experience.
Yes, exactly. We definitely look at the skin tone issue totally different from those who are of African descent, but not African American.
The whole time I’m thinking to myself he is not even light skinned UK and a
African view is different from American Blacks
My goodness, Reggie is such a beautiful man! 💙
Please make all video in one i can't search
Awhhh.... just beautiful
I’m rather curious what became of Lloyd and Yates when they left.
Yes because maybe they had other children back in England, to whom Reggie would be partially related.
Same here. The story is incomplete.
Yates was already married with a child when he started his job in Africa. Him,his wife and first child relocated to south Africa first then he moved to Ghana alone. Many British wives and children were left in south Africa due to a match better weather..and to avoid to contract malaria that was wildly common, and still is ,in west Africa.
Yates returned to England with his family, had other children there, then moved back to Ghana...and that is when he met Dorothy lloyd. He moved back and forth for more years...then returned to England and never returned back. He had other jobs in south America I believed and died shortly after.
There were a lot of " Situationships " back then. AG Lloyd could not bring back an African woman with child back to the UK in the 1900's. AG Lloyd abandoned them. These types of " Situationships " happened all over the British Empire. Great documentary.
I saw Reggie in another documentary where he went to South Africa. He is a very kind hearted man and I always enjoy watching him. Finding out about his ancestors is fascinating.
Reggie, did you search in the UK for AJ Lloyd's history?
Such amazing traditions and ritual. Fascinating!
May the heavens shower flowers upon his beautiful heart today and always 🙏
My hometown Dixcove😍😍.. commonly known in the Ahanta language as *Nfoma* yet to visit when I return ☺️
This is very awesome I know Discove
Bro very happy 😊 for sekendi western move 🤞🏿🤞🏿🤞🏿🤞🏿
so this where they get that stuff (pour a drink for your dead homies hahahahahag)
fatima fatima Guess that’s ancestral
Yep it’s called libation
The Tee-Spot yes!
The are offering it to their ancestors so that their ancestors will be pleased and then in turn continue to look out for them from the spirit world. You can do it with food as well. If it's your birthday and you want to 'give' some of your b-day cake to a dead ancestor (parents, grandparents) in order to include them at the party, you can break off a piece of the cake and crumble it on the floor or open the window / back door and crumble some outside while saying a prayer.
Sorry - I forgot to mention that you can do it for your dead friends too. (I hope you don't mind me messaging you like this.)
What a gift.
Gm edagdwg love this story
Wow a nice story
Omg! He did like the brotha in the neighborhood that pour out a drink on the ground "for the homies not here!"
I hope you don't mind me sending you this - They are offering it to their ancestors to honour them and ask for help. Their ancestors will be pleased and then in turn continue to help, protect and look out for them from the spirit world. You can do it with food as well. E.g. If it's your birthday and you want to 'give' some of your b-day cake to honour a dead ancestor (parents, grandparents) in order to include them at the party, you can break off a piece of the cake and crumble it on the floor (and sweep it up later) or open the window / back door and crumble some outside while saying a quick prayer.
Sorry - I forgot to mention that you can do it for your dead friends too.
Im.glad you find your family
Nice history
Wow very nice🇬🇭🇺🇸
If i were in Africa i would use this opportunity to also learn about my African ancestry to see what tribes exactly my African ancestors belong. To see their practices, language and attire ! I get his European lineage is part of his African story but Africa is staring him directly in the face and he is not the least bit curious to know if his ancestors are Ibo, Yoruba or Akan etc. seems to be more focused on his European lineage
I think he knows that already. Both of his parents are from Ghana. He was raised by his Ghanaian mother. I don't think he missed out on that history much and he was obviously getting more of his father's Ghanaian family history as he travelled through.
In addition to what January Ghost said... there's only so much time to report anything in an hour (or less) TV show. Just because he hasn't explored the tribes in this documentary, doesn't mean he didn't do that at all.
I would imagine he would have spent time exploring all of his heritage while in Ghana.
As a West Indian I am seeing many familiar faces however the British left their legacy of single parenting which seems to be more prevalent in the West Indies. The children of these unions seem to have many psychological and behavioral issues, very sad outcome.
Indeed
He's very handsome!
There not the Friendliest but hard working
I'm hilda Yate ,Harry Philip Yate was my father
What about that Mr. Lloyd, any curiosity about him?
Ive seen people spilling libation for departed here in America but I didnt know it was rooted in Africa.
Very handsome
Is the handsome Homosapien JB married? If not, I will like to get to know him...We can grow old together. lol
Haha!! I think there will be a queue at his door now that we have all seen this :)
@@sackmajik he's literally drop dead gorgeous and so FIT
Did he just “poor one out for the dead homies”
Yeah, it's the custom here in Africa..
u re looking like ur grandmother.
This guy looks just like his grandmother I bet you if you told him that he would be very offended he would want you to tell him that he looks like his grandfather
Beautiful u try
We want to know what happened to your great grandfather after he left.
Dixcove
Has Reg done a DNA ancestry?
*81.25% Ghanaian [Fante, Ashanti]
*18.75% English
just wasted a small portion of the drink
Who is he?
he's a well known presenter in the UK, he did radio and made quite a few documentaries for TV ☺
I guess if you put his name in Google you'll find out some of what he has done, who he is etc
I'm American, I don't recognize him, so he must be a well known person in Europe
@@2436golden yes he is
Ann In Europe? No, Maybe in the UK.
It explains what exactly? You are mixed because you are light skinned? Such ignorance.
But it's true
Well, yeah? It's obvious that he's always wanted to know where his complexion came from and now he knows so he's content. He knew he had mixed heritage, he just didn't know where in his lineage. It's not that deep
Smh! U don't know anything about this young man. Why not appreciate the fact he is sharing his journey with others? Even if it's his complexion so what?
Melinda- exactly. There are naturally light-skinned African people.
@@rahmasaciid4334 No it is not. This women is very light and is 100% African czcams.com/video/lOTH8_CCr5M/video.html
