It may not be pretty, but it is pragmatic. And as Mourinho and others have shown, it can be part of a team’s tactical make-up that helps them win trophies.
In this video, we explain how to 'park the bus'.

Please do: _A history/Relevance of Freekick Walls._ Like, how many players used to be needed to form a wall against a free kick? How did they set the standard distance from the ball? And most important question: Are walls still relevant to modern football?.... I recently watched several highlights of goals scored from short freekicks, and it was so obvious that *the wall obstructs the goalkeeper's view, and by the time he sees the ball coming towards the net, it is too late to gauge the speed and swerve.* We should seriously look into this technicality because with modern freekick specialists, the wall helps them but works against the opponents' goalkeeper.
(Just a suggestion for Tifo & The Athletic to tackle)

      Good suggestion, seconded!
When Canizares used to be Valencia's keeper, he organised the wall in a peculiar, but logical way to eliminate this blind spot that you talk about. He set it up so there was always a one-man gap in the wall in the line of his starting position to the ball. So he always saw the ball as it was kicked so he would always dive the right way.
The problem with highlights is you don't see the 95% of shots directly or indirectly blocked by the wall, you only see the 5% of shots that end up in the goal. If the wall was a problem, people wouldn't use it.

2 or 3 bounces before we saw the ball? I don't know what kind of place you grew up in, but we were even competing to catch it mid-flight.
And we were just kids in school or at the park with normal reflexes for our age. Not adults with world-class reflexes in a competitive market.

Took them out of position most of the times which allowed Liverpool to put in dangerous crosses. It's just that Oblak showed the world why he's the best GK this year.. also hurts that Adrian had a brainfart ffs. As a Liverpool fan, am not salty about Atleti's playbook.. I admire them. Because it requires total adherence and mental fortitude; to not follow the "dollar signs" and take every opportunity to break. For attacking players this is difficult, because they've always been taught to get into space and break when it opens up for them. Also because it only really works against teams that are expecting to control the ball and attack for much of the game; when in reality most teams nowadays have pretty balanced mentality when it comes to attacking. I's a very difficult tactic to get right, and those that do deserve more respect than they get.

You could watch this alot in southamerican at the "libertadores cup" where teams from bolivia or other small countries score 1 goal against a big team and they literally do a 7-3 formationnand when they recover the ball they throw it back to the enemy on purpuse and they win the game just by stalling. Its painfull to watch but so satisfying at the same time. Feel bad for the coach of the team that needs to attack 'cos on the other side everybody is just stalling until the time runs out...

I prefer to think that "pretty" can be very subjective when discussing football. Sure, possession control + quick sharp 1-2 touch passing triangles etc. are typically considered the most beautiful. But there is also a case to be made for a really swift direct counterattack (after parking the bus). While admittedly, parking the bus without even trying to score on the counter is probably considered "ugly" by most, I still think parking the bus + a lethal counterattack has created some beautiful goals in recent times.

People praising negative football like it's the best invention in sport, without realising that tiki taka, total football, or whatever they called attacking football, has been won the clubs lot of major trophies, fame, fans, and glory. If we looked back at the history, attacking team always dominating domestic league and European league. Of course occasionally defensive team won something, but I think 65 - 70% of football trophies has been obtained by attacking team.

Yes but not every team can park the bus because it is one of the most difficult tactics to employ many teams have tried to implement it and failed miserably i am not saying total football or tiki taka isn't difficult of course the former one requires more fluidity and the latter requires more technical ability but parking the bus is the most demanding tactics from the players and that is the reason only fewer teams have won with that tactic
