Watching this is both powerful and creepy, knowing what the Communists did afterward. I almost see this song as a wishful "what could have been" if the Republic of China had remained on the mainland, perhaps under someone more moderate than Mao or Chiang Kai-Shek (which could have happened since nowadays both Taiwan and South Korea are thriving democracies despite initially having been ruled by US-backed dictators like Chiang or Syngman Rhee). This song is almost like China's version of America's Star-Spangled Banner anthem with similar concepts in a very broad sense.
Looks like the commies saved the Chinese people from the horrors of South Korean cosmetic surgery. I would rather die than be exposed to kimchi horrors.
