my mom has a 8N. I would plow her 2 1/2 acres couple times a year. They purchased in late 70's, was told only last 5 years. wrong. It still runs good, still has 6 volt system. A friend now does plowing with it.
It's so painful to watch someone work on those distributors on the tractor when it takes two minutes to pop off the two bolts and work on them on the bench.
Not very safe but, you can test spark by touching one of the parts ( I think the ceramic part ) to the engine block and turn it over, and look carefully for spark
I just got an 8n for free and I spent a few days soaking the rings in tranny fluid. Cleaned the points, installed a internal resistor coil and cleaned the card and got her up and going!!! Posted videos of it on my channel, check it out if you like!!! Keep Rocking it out!!!
You do need a resistor even with a 12v coil unless it has an internal resistor. Yes the battery will die, I did a 12v alternator conversion on this tractor.

I love those old 6 volt systems and those front mounted distributors are easy trust me there's a trick to it 😎

Updraft carb is not going to suck in a couple puffs on cleaner.
I’m thinking you got varnish for fuel.

I’ll check it out, they are great tractors. Thanks for watching.
What size trailer was the tractor on? I want to know if a ford tractor would fit on my trailer.
16ft long 6ft 3in wide if I recall correctly.
Fuel filter for the rust in the tank?
The tank was clean and rust free.
Do you need a resistor if i were to install a 12v coil? Wouldn’t the battery die because the generator can’t keep up ?

It should be positive ground.
previous owner had a 12v battery in it, negative ground.
Try starting fluid instead of carb cleaner
All I had at the time was caeb cleaner. I rarely use starting aloud on anything so never have any.
My father had an old ford tractor he let a neighbor use it me and him rebuild a mother engine for it
They are good tractors.
