Rigging Up The Ultimate Ultralight Tackle Box

- As you know, I love ultralight fishing! The tackle box that I was using just wasn't cutting it so I picked up a very inexpensive tackle bag from Academy Sports. In this video, I organized all of my multispecies ultralight gear for this year. The weather hasn't been cooperating so fishing is tough, but picking up this bag has me super excited for the 2019 fishing season!

Check out these new multispecies ultralight jigs I’m making! czcams.com/video/8U3XparbpG0/video.html
Aside from just fishing one of my favorite things to do is organize my tackle there's no reason but it's near compulsive for me
Haha I completely know that feeling! I used to just play with tackle and watch tv back in the day every night. Now it is in my garage so I don’t do that as much, but I definitely go down there and tinker while enjoying a beer quite often 🤣
I’m always thinking there has to be a better way to organize things. So I keep tinkering. Been doing it since I got my first tackle bag when I was 16 and I don’t see that changing.
Same My wife just sits there and looks and me and says you never get tiered of organizing your tacklebox. I’ll sit on my couch and play with my ice fishing rod. I’ll cast it out reel it in just about reel. She’ll just laugh
In Kansas I always carry a white/red beetle spin, it’s saved me from being skunked to many times.
Great video!
Thank you! Absolutely will pick some of those up 🤠
Hey man, love the ultralight videos. I've been ultralight fishing and I really love it, no doubt my favorite way to fish. Thought I'd help you out with a few lures I love to use for panfish
1. The Beetle Spin
2. Yo-Zuri Snap been
3. Rebel Crickhopper
4. Trout Magnets (if you can get the kit online cuz you'll use a lot of them)
5. Gulp 1" Minnows
6. Any tiny Rapalas like the countdown or x-rap
7. Tiny ice fishing jigs and plastics
Hope that helped you out. Btw for panfishing cold water like you were in the video the best presentation I've found to throw would probably be a tiny dropshot with live bait or Gulp Minnows. Just cast it in the deep spots and drag and twitch it with REALLY long pauses, that's when they'll take it. Hope that helped, keep posting great content!
This comment is 🔥🔥🔥 thanks so much for all your help! Definitely screenshotted that and will pick that gear up 🤘🏽
Beetle spin is solid. I’ve never caught anything with a spinnerbait, but I’ve had crappie and bass slam the beetle spin. Another decent multi-species lure is the rooster tail. I’ve used those to catch trout, bluegill, and bass
I have a similar setup when I bring my youngest out fishing. I usually use a little jig head tipped with a worm with or without a bobber and we crush it. I like to use lures only though and I have great success with the Creme Frisky Frog on a little weedless jig head.
Hmmm sounds tasty! Ohhh wait I used to use those back in high school! That would bring back serious memories!
Haha it does sound tasty. Like something served at a fancy french restaurant.
Man the beetlespin had always been my go to. But the ever trusty curly tail grub always worked for me.
Good point! I’ll have to pick up some classic Beetle Spins!
Have found that a pencil pouch make a really good organizer. Especially the multi compartment five star ones. Have one for each rod, then throw the bag for each rod I'm taking in one of those ultra light hiking backpacks when in packing up to head out. Quick and easy and keeps me from carrying gear I won't need.
That is a great idea, thank you for sharing! Honestly, I need to spend more time in Hobby Lobby or something like it because I bet there are 1,000 other things that would work really well that aren't technically designed for fishing.
I like the way you educate about fishing
Thank you Wayne!
I swear I change my mind about how I am going to organize my tackle on a weekly basis. Just like several people has mentioned the Rebel Crickhopper is incredible. I don't like the Crickhopper with the one hook out of the back. I am talking about the original one with the two treble hooks. Also the knock offs by Bass Pro and Arkie are not the same. Something about the Rebel one is way better.
Thanks Bobby! I’ll definitely pick an original up, I believe Walmart has them readily stocked. I can’t wait for some topwater activity 🤠
I utilize a zip-up canvas bag and besides plastic tackle boxes, I utilize zip-lock bags to carry a lot of things in separated. It works out quite well. My bag is about three times as large as the one you show in this video. They can be picked up quite cheap at most Thrift Shops. US Army, Ret. TX
I live in North Eastern Kansas and went out yesterday and used a micro lip less crank bait and caught several. Your small bag is all set but I would put some tiny crank baits in there as well.
Thanks Dan, I’ll definitely do that!!
Well done Ethan, thanks for all the tips.
Thanks Larry, no problem! Hope all is well 🤠
@@FishAnything caught my p b Saturday 9lbs 11 oz. Yes all is well thank you.
HOLY CANNOLI YESSSSS CONGRATULATIONS LARRY!!
I think you nailed the setup!
Thanks Parker! Now let’s fish some ultralight this summer 🤠
I hv been totally getting into ultralight fishing, it is so much fun. I would suggest you add a rebel raider lure. Keep the great videos coming!
Awesome! I’ll definitely check those out, thanks for the suggestion and kind words 🤠
I love rooster tails..... Every color I can find, they are killer in lil streams in KS and MO during summer.
Heck yeah, I’ll be sure to add a whole pile of them 🤠
I’m a big fan of gulp alive 1 inch minnows in the little jar. Fish seem to just love them.
Heck yeah I was looking at those with awe the other day! I’ll go back and pick them up 😁
Seen a few mention them and I've seen some guys have good luck with them the gulp 1in minnows. I've stocked up on a few jars but haven't gotten to try them yet. Maybe some cheap flies? For float and fly fishing or even to use on a micro drop shot. Also look out for the crappie magnet. The same as trout magnet but a little bigger if you want to target a little bigger fish 👍
That’s awesome! Thanks for the suggestions 🤘🏽
As mentioned in other post. Good ol faithful ned rig. 😀
Oh for sure! No worries, I’ll be adding some jigs :)
Donkey tail Jr and horsefly from mule fishing!!!! Btw I’ve never seen a 1/64 eagle claw ball head. Now I’m going to be looking. Lol
Haha heck yeah. My arsenal has transformed a lot since this old video!
*Product appears to be well made. Storage seems to be adequate. Feels good when you put it on...fits well. Have not used it on a fishing trip yet but it beats what I was using.*
That is great info
Thank you Kdawg! Can't wait to put it to more use this year :)
Awesome sweater! Cheers from Ontario
Cheers Pat! Thanks 🤠 you guys make good beer 🤣
Up here in the Northwest, we include lures you would normally use for trout. Rooster tails in dark colors for example.
Absolutely! I’ll be adding some of these as well. Thanks Raymond!
Joe's flies spinner baits are awesome for ultra light fishing
I’ve heard a few times now and I’m thinking I’ll have to pick some up!! Thank you Dustin!
I've been doing the same thing this year. Trying to downsize my bag and not bring a ton of tackle that I never use.
After you get some Trout Magnets also look at the Crappy Magnets. They are slightly bigger and I find they get me more bass and cut down a little bit on the smaller fish. Also, you NEED to have some Berkley Gulp Minnows at all times! They work great on Trout Magnet jigs but they would work on any of those ball head jigs you put in there as well. They catch everything! They are definitely my most confident bait. You did a video on the smallest size a while back I think, so I know you use them ;)
Heck yeah, I’ll for sure pick them up! They look incredible and the fish love the taste of Gulp.
My UL bag is LOADED with original beetle spins. I’m seriously thinking about buying some of the mini chatterbaits as well. I also have rooster tail spinners too.
PS - AWESOME NEW HAT!!!
Haha heck yeah! Glad you like the hat. Based on the several suggestions for beetle spins, I think it’s settled. I’m gonna go buy $10 worth or so. 🤠
I bought some Small circle hooks. Micro like 3# or smaller through 12# and ive caught some awesome fish. I caught a 6lbs Carp by mistake, many 1-2lbs catfish, a few small large mouth bass, endless sunfish, and most of all its so fun to try to catch ridiculously small minnows/shiners etc with them.
Ive gotten minnows for bait multiple times this way. I carry my 5' rod and go to small spillways, or creeks and just have fun.
Small pieces of worm. bread, or ive even used the antenna that broke off Crawfish luers as small worms and jigged them and caught tons of tiny bait size panfish that way.
Heck yeah! I need to fish that way more often. Thanks for sharing :)
Great videos, keep it up
Thank you Michael!!
Aside from a few small crankbaits and jerkbaits, the only other things I have in my box that you don’t is a line nippers and a hemostat. Those tools are valuable!
Thanks for the feedback :)
I normally keep fingernail clippers and stats in my pocket because of this lol
Great video
Thank you!! 🤠
Love these ultra light videos! Try the Rebel micro baits like the crickhopper and crawfish. They’re awesome
And try the trout magnet trout slayers, they’re micro plastic crawfish that are really good as well.
Awesome! Thanks for the suggestions Jonathan!!
The editing is killing it
Lol I’m not much of an editor but thanks
Ik you have spoons but seriously, daredevil spoons are probably the best out there. Just a classic and a 10/10 all around
Absolute classic! Good suggestion!
I ditched tackle boxes, bags, and back packs all together and use a vest exclusively now.
Probably a better way to be! Easier and hands free
@@FishAnything I bank fish on my local river. If youre not wading there are very few spots that are readily accessible so I'm always climbing through chest high weeds and sticker bushes. Its just easier to grab what I know I'll use, load up my vest and go.
I would recommend a few 1/16 and 1/8 ounce spinners and maybe a couple floating jerk baits.
Thanks Jack! I need to make an updated video because my box has changed drastically since this :)
Bro you should put some silica beads in the beg. Rust is a pain in the butt. Nice tackle box management though. Arranging all my lure, hooks and stuff is a therapy to me
Yessssir good point! I actually did put some silica bead packs in shortly after this video. And yeah I love organizing my gear :)
Strike king bitsy minnow hard baits are awesome
I have a couple of them and look forward to using them more :D
Yo cool vid and my favorite multi species lure is the rebel cricket
Thanks Rj!
Hello happy Tuesday I'm new to your fishing channel🎣👍 I love fishing🎣 and going fishing👍🎣 👍💯
Thanks for watching! Tight lines :)
@@FishAnything hello my friend your very welcome 👍💯 fishing🎣 power 👍
Rebel craw or crickhopper is the best for creek fishing in the warm months
Heck yeah, I have memories of using those! I’ll pick some up!
i just organize my lures with the terminal tackle that lure would normally be used...
Everything i would need to fish a Wacky Rig, Neko Rig, or Banjo Rig along with the lures i would use for that type of terminal tackle is al in a heavy duty one gallon Ziploc Freezer Bag... I don't need to open one box for lures, another box for hooks a third box for weighs and so on...
Yo zuri snap beans gold and silver. They work really well.
Awesome I will definitely check those out! Thanks Ty!
In the Philippines ultralight fishing is quite popular, i subbed
Thanks! Yeah UL fishing is the best :)
@@FishAnything looking forward to more videos, always take care and enjoy fishing
Very nice!! Been searching for a system like yours! A little late to the party but it's better late than never right?
Dang right! Thanks Calvin :)
Extra spools to swap on reel
Clear, yellow line
2,4,6lb line as situations and lures change
Good video
Thanks
Good feedback! Thanks Brent :)
Cool vid
Thanks bud!
Repping the my home town of Plano!
Awesome! 👊🏽👊🏽
Small rooster tail can catch different kinds of fish new to your channel enjoyed it keep up the good work
Thanks Ron! I’ll pick up some more rooster tails 🤠
Ecogear pocket in ss minnows from Japan...great for pan fish
Right on, very unique suggestions!!
Be careful, Ethan. The little light stuff can bring such a plethora of joy you will forget that MH and Heavy rods, swim jigs, giant worms and all that kind of stuff ever existed! Hahaha! Just kidding. I use a small bug-out bag as well and travel as light as possible if strictly panfishing. Occasionally I will cheat and bring along a bass rod (and tuck in a few MinnowZ, LizardZ or 3" Slim Swimz) "just in case." I'll try to remember to spend a little time in a future vid playing show and tell with my small tackle bag. Hi to your mom and you can tell her my wife Brenda got irritated at her Pfaff and bought a 3d machine called a Jiki or something like that. Don
Hahaha this is foreign language to me (that’s what they say about our fishing gear). And yeah, I love ultralight gear, I’m doing my best to not buy another setup... ugh spending money on gear is always so tempting.
WinkieDoodles that happened to me I spent a whole year ultralight fishing and completely forgot bass fishing was a thing lol 😂
Hey bud! What about the favorite Ned rigs and drop shot set up?
Yes you are correct! Not sure how I missed these hahaha
Fishing line!
UL Fishing Line video coming soon!
I recommend you look into some Donkey Tail Jrs or Horse Flys. 😉
Lol smart man 😂
@@FishAnything good ol’ algorithm served me this video. Had to let Past Ethan know what he’s missing out on! Though I’m sure you were already working on the soft plastics at this point.
yo this is a very nice ultra light takle box. if you have the time i recommend trying something called ajing. this fishing method originated from Japan targeting maceral but it work well with other fish species too. pls try this method it will make my day if u make a video about it. p.s. its also uses ultralight fishing
Thank you for the suggestion! I will look into it :)
I think your missing some kind of small UL top water bait, like a popper. Small jerk baits like yozuri pins minnow in 1/16 oz or 1/8 oz. Tiny spinner baits like a beetle spin. There are other brand ones called "crappie spin", that are more like traditional spinner baits vs a beetle spin. Maybe some tiny ice jigs tipped with tiny plastics, they work great in soft water as well as on the ice. Small wet flies, you can fish under a float, or drop shot style. Tiny crank baits, like strike king bitsy pond minnow, or Matzuo nano crank. There's also nano minnow jerk baits from Matzuo, and a deep diving floating minnow bait.
That's a nice little pack. Few months back I got a shoulder bag style of small fishing pack for around 13$. I wanted to try packing light instead of toting around a bigger bag with more stuff I wasn't really using much. That shoulder bag is comfortable enough that I can wear it while fishing instead of having to lay it down, and pick it up multiple times, while walking down a ways. I have it jam packed with stuff. I'm not sure how much more I can carry in it.
Thank you for all these killer recommendations!! I’ll be sure to pick them up and I couldn’t agree more that packing light is key!
You should do a 2021 ultralight fishing tackle bag/box
Definitely agree! I’ll put this on my to-do list 🤠👊🏽
ive got that same plano box...but thats all the ultralight gear i have atm lol
Nothing wrong with that! Honestly you don't need much. Basically jigs, small plastics, and maybe some floats and weights.
Um no ned rig? And what type of pliers where you using. I likem. And I wished we had a Academy here.
Haha I’ll throw some Ned action in here for sure! Those were the Buck Knife Splizzors which I have a video on here: czcams.com/video/xK9EdSJTyXI/video.html thanks for watching Robert!!
I remember my first UL tackle box.
Glad your memory still serves you well! What baits did you put in it? Any recommendations? :)
@@FishAnything Rebel crawfish, rebel crickhopper, rooster tails, beetle spins, rapala f3 and f5 minnows, 1/8 and 3/16 oz rattle traps, rapala ul crankbaits, rapala shad raps, if you look online you can find bomber 3F fat A's, and 4f fat A's, Rebel jointed Minnows, any of the myriad paddle tail offerings from Bobby Garland, Cabela's, Bass Pro Shops, 1-2 in curly tail grubs...just to name a few.
Gotta look into eurotackle buddy. The best most effective micro lures ive ever used. Pair some with trout jigs and youll bring in fish every cast even in bad conditions and pressure
Thanks for the suggestion!
Cool tee
Dang right!
Rebel makes some good ultralight cranks. Teeny Wee Craw is my favorite.
There's a similar bag at Walmart by their house brand, Ozark Trail, that I really like. It has three, maybe four boxes in it.
Is that reel an old Quantum Snapshot?
I think it is haha and thanks for the suggestions! I’ll pick those up 🤠
@@FishAnything check Amazon for the Rebel Classic Critters pack. I think Walmart sells it too. It has a craw, a crickhopper, a little shad type bait, and I believe a popper. All ultralight sized. It's about $15, cheaper than you can buy them individually.
I have the smallest Snapshot reel Quantum made back in the day, it's over 20 years old. It is pretty much dunk proof. Only reason I don't use it anymore is line keeps getting pinched in the line roller. Hopefully I can fix it over the winter.
I'm serious about fishing together. Lots of small creeks full of panfish, bass, and the occasional muskie. It's ultralight heaven when the water is warm and low enough to wade.
I have the small Ozark Trail bag from Walmart. It holds plenty of tackle. Bobbers, weights, hooks, jigheads, spoons, plastics, etc.
I guess I have easily put $100 worth of tackle in it. It holds three small boxes, has a front pocket and two side pockets...also a zippered area in the lid for the main compartment.
U need in your tackle bag: panfish magnet kit
Very Nice Bud!!!
Try used reel Shimano Sienna 500 FD toguether with tris rod Sojoun 2-6 lbs. Sienna 1000 is very hard for little rod. What you think?
I’m enjoying the 1000 size personally! I can get long casts with small jigs and light line. I’ve found that smaller reels get me less distance on casts and seem to have more line twist issues 🤷🏼♂️
Plano waterproof is the way to go.
Yeah buddy!
Try some 1/8 oz top water baits Hula popper jitter bug spin traps i found these frogs they really small made by Cream they work like a buzz bait firetigrr minnow Rapala!!!!!!!
Awesome suggestions, thank you Robert!
Greenday Bro!!!
Great video!
IMO you're still taking too much gear. Try carrying just 3 jig heads for each size at the most. Once you empty a soft plastic pouch, use it to hold several different soft plastic baits. Add something to munch on and a bottle of water and you're good to go. Leave the rest in the car.
Thanks for the tip Daryl! I usually am a very minimalistic fisherman so I really like that idea 🤠 I just wanted to put something together that is easily portable and has several options ready to go.
Tight lines my friend 😁🎣
New here , great video !
Thank you 🤠👏🏽
What knot do u use to splice mono to fluro
I don't really tie mono to fluoro. I use a double uni to tie braid to a leader
You really need some Yozuri Snap Beans, Pins Minnow, Rebel floating/diving minnows, Rebel floating/diving crawfish, Teeny Torpedos, 1/8 oz Rattle Traps, 1/16 oz UL spinnerbaits, and Slider jigs (1 1/2"" boot tail bodies/1/8 oz Slider jig heads). You will be the master of all you survey!
Love these suggestions thank you 🤠🤠🤠 I’ll check into them!
Beetle spin mepps. 4 inch prerigged rubber worm.
Ooh good suggestions! I definitely want to get some of those small creme worms, great idea!
Beatle spin
Classic lure! Can't go wrong :)
Iwould trying out power bait from your tackle shop
Good suggestion! Thanks William 🤠👊🏽
Soco baits mini fry in pearl white
Oooooh sounds juicy 🤠
Throw in a few Panther Martin or Blue Fox inline spinners.
Definitely! I just got a Panther Martin the other day 🤠
@@FishAnything I caught my PB Smallmouth Bass on a Gold #2 Blue fox Super vibrax.
Try the 1/8 hula popper!!!!
Oooh I’d like that!
Where did you get that sweatter!!?
I randomly won it on an Instagram giveaway from Labatt haha I was stoked
Wow straight ripping neistat style
😁😁 thanks Phillip!
I do a little blacksmithing I wonder if someone could forge spoons have to try it out
spoons can be cold-forged from various sheet metals and ball-peen hammers on a carved out wood block jig.
@@punchfukker3383 ty
This conversation makes me happy! That is so cool, hogbelly let’s make some custom ultralight spoons!!
@@FishAnything I know sounds like it could be really amazing
I use a large fishing vest not a trout vest the pockets are larger
I love to use berkley power dough trout bait the green with glitter I like to put a smile little ball of the dough on the hook I also like to use a mini spinner bait and I put a small baby Fluke on to the hook of the spinner bait 👍💯
I will have to try that!
@@FishAnything nice my friend your very welcome 👍💯 I can't wait to see more of your videos 👍💯
Sorry sir but did I hear you call corks b-bb-ooo-bbbb-ee-r-ss?? Sorry grandpa I had to say the word. Only southern people will relate😂! Otherwise, great content buddy! Just found your channel and now I’m addicted.
Haha thanks man! Yeah I usually call them “floats” these days! 🤪
@@FishAnything CORKS. 🤣😂😂
You should use clear bobbers
Dang good suggestion!
Well, duh.. your old micro Ned! Someone already mentioned the Gulp minnows and those work great. You may not be into off brand/imports but I say don’t be afraid... and try searching Amazon for Aorace mini lures.. 10 mini diving crank baits for $8.
Thanks John! Great suggestions, absolutely micro ned will make it’s way into the box!!
What was the the rod n reel you were using?
Shimano Sojourn 5' UL
Shimano Sienna 1000
Thanks for watching!
@@FishAnything thanks for the info...sweet combo..might purchase one myself..love ultralight fishing..good practice for the biggins 👍💜✝️🎣🇺🇸
What part of Kansas are you from, im from Kansas city
Awesome! I lived in Overland Park one summer and love that area! Manhattan is where I call home 🤠
1” Gulp Minnows on a small jig.
I’ve heard these are great - I’ll pick some up! Thanks Leonard 🤠
Where did you get those scissors?
I assume you mean my Buck Knives Splizzors. They don't sell them anymore :(
@@FishAnything just my luck. Thank you for replying. Love your channel
You have to stick some rooster tails in any ultra light collection.
For sure, great suggestion! I’ll add some when I get home tonight 😁
Ill stick to my patagonia atom sling
That looks like a really cool option!!
Do these still apply or has ur setup changed?
I will likely do an updated video soon!
@@FishAnything def need it. I have a crap ton of flies and rooster tails and they work 60% of the time, but limiting myself to those techniques my uncles taught me is costing me a lot of fish. I wanna expand my knowledges and use different kinds of baits. Ultralight fishing is basically the only fishing I do all besides a few white bass, walleye and Striped bass. Heck I even use ultralight for the first 2 sometimes.
About how much did all that cost
Honestly can’t remember but I’d estimate about $50-70
Bison colored Trout Magnet. Check out TroutMagnetMan’s CZcams channel. Slider also makes a great 1/32 oz Double Lite ball head jig.
Awesome, I’m starting to get overwhelmed with all these great suggestions :)
OK I need to know what lake are you fishing
Haha that’s back in Manhattan! Does it look familiar to you?
@@FishAnything I thought so but was not sure since I live in Johnson County.
I swear he was Flair in that Title
Lol I am not sure my title was very clickbaity though. Pretty much did exactly what the title says.
Beetle spins man, thats how i caught alot of my crappie this summer. Also even though i lost my phone still had to come support the channel!
Haha you are a legend! And for sure will be buying the beetle spins!
Add some rooster tails (catch all) and micro frogs
For sure, thank you!! 🤠🎣
here's a list of a few micro things you're missing:
Arkie craw crankbait(2-3$), Creme's 5-pc Trout Hard Bait Kit and Pond Favorite 5-pc Small Lipless Crank Kit(5-7$) they can be bought at just about any walmart
2-to-3" trout worms, way more action than a 3" stick bait especially when wacky-shotting it and they can be found in standard color patterns too like watermelon red or pumpkin pepper
Trout Magnets, you can buy them online from them and you should since they also have trout worms _and_ hellgramites! troutmagnet.com/trout-magnet/trout-bugs/small-black-hellgrammite-4-pc-pack.html
Northland's Live Forage Swimbait Minis and Mimic Minnow Small Fry Jigs
1/16th oz. Strike King Bitsy Bugs, all the colors but first all black for creek smallies
2.75" Zoom Tiny Flukes and Tiny Brush Hogs
various wet/leech/streamer/nymph flies for drop-shotting or putting on a tiny spoon to work as a teaser hook, and there are straight inline spinner snaps for flies like Joe's Flies
Hildebrandt Flicker Spinners, pretty frikkin' pricey for what it basically is (you'll know what I mean when you look it up) but it just works and totally worth every penny
Dude you are so cool. Thank you for this detailed list! I’ll for sure pick them up, thanks again!!
Rebel Teeny Wee Crawfish
Oh yeah! Classic :)
