      Speed of sound absolutely makes a difference at the sort of distances and speeds we're talking about. Typical scenario: a 40-yard pass down the center of the field. Via trigonometry, this puts the linesman about 55 yards away from the kick. It takes 0.15 seconds for the sound to reach him. In that time, a really quick player can travel over four feet running at top speed, making all the difference between offside and onside. The result: players called offside even though they aren't.

    Great training video. A couple of criticisms. 1. Why film it in front of a building with glass? Reflections (which you would not see at any field) are an added element that distracts from the point. 2. Having shorts/pants the same colour for both teams is not a realistic scenario either.

    On Clip 19 one of the attackers is offside and one is onside. The pass goes to the left where the attacker was onside. The one who was offside didn't interfere therefore he is passively offside. That's just a bad training video if they don't care for passive and active offside.

      +Guido Lamoto Agree with you on 19, but 21 is a little more arguable. An offside player must have an impact on the play for it to be called offside, since he is so near the ball and for a relatively longer period, one could potentially argue he impacts the play by the way the defenders and gk would adapt to his presence near the ball. For it to be clearcut, he should stop running sooner. You're probably right tho

      +Guido Lamoto Clip 19 is offside. With the new laws about offside its now illegal to be part of the play even without touching the ball, if the ball is played toward you and you're in a offside positsion its offside, even if you dont touch the ball

    • @wolf-rm4ob
      @wolf-rm4ob Před 7 lety

      That's not true. It's even more difficult now to be penalised for an offside position without touching the ball. You basically have to touch the ball or enter a tackle for the ball to be penalised for the offside position.
      Clip 19 is therefore clearly no offside. Clip 21 is arguable. Neither of the players touches the ball. It would propably go to the goalkeeper. Then again, no offside

    There are 2 things that bother me in this video. First of all, it is really difficult without the sound of the ball being kicked because it forces you to watch the ball and the player when all you want to be doing is watching the player. Also, the camera angle is on the wrong side, so that is kind of weird too

    Although as others have said, the ruling on Clip 19 appears to be incorrect. Same argument can be made for Clip 21 as well. But whether the player in offside position challenges the ball or not is less obvious in that one. The movement is a bit awkward.
    Additionally Clip 5 is hairline close. Very hard to correctly rule that one. Especially watching it from a 30 (or less) fps video and with this angle.
    Conclusion: VAR is a blessing from soccer gods.

    These are all wrong. The ball in the clip has not been kicked. When showing onside in the clip. The ball hasn't made a single rotation or forward movement. In the next tenth of a second when the ball moves, the player would be in an offside position. So these are poor examples also audio is needed to help as ever official uses sound to make the call because you can't watch the ball being kicked and the player in an onside or offside position.

    Honestly, I think this video is rubbish. First off, the point of view should be directly on the line and not at an angle. On clip 16, it may be that if the camera view were on the offside line, the player's head would have been ahead of the defender's foot. Secondly, this video should be labeled 'offside position' since there seems to be little effort to determine which of the two attackers is playing the ball.

  • @romanoonamor7690
    @romanoonamor7690 Před 7 lety +4

    BS. I only watch first 5 but all are off-side. Off-side rule is clear: 2 players needed. There only is a "defender" (well a guy running). People forget that the keeper counts in those situation. But here we can't see if there's a keeper, I assume we see all the players. So all are offside.

    Let's try a another argument...all these are onside because the ball is kicked by someone wearing a black top - presumably the referee - clothed similarly to the assistant referee. The guy in the red top is never offside as the ball hasn't been played forward by a member of his own team. Joel Lacey - feel free to use that argument as it's just as ridiculous as your one.

    • @joellacey9812
      @joellacey9812 Před 8 lety

      Victor K They did not make that clear, I got through about 10 of them before realising and you cannot just say there is a goalkeeper when there is not. Rule states that you can't be in front of the second last defender and so many people do not know this rule and it is really annoying so I would expect that a "PRO" assistant referee test would help and not hinder this rule. Just my opinion bro, would have been fine if they stated it at the beginning but if you are playing a game without goalkeepers and still playing offside then it is second last not last as I was thinking this video was.
