PARENTS!!!!! PLEASE - PLEASE GIVE YOUR CHILD OR ANY CHILD AN INSTRUMENT..... THIS IS THE REASON WHY!!!!!!
These young brothers did Herbie Hancock proud back then and still today!!👍🏾💯
Indeed, they did
I thought quincy Jones did it first???? Featuring Patti austin....but u go pieces o a dream...my numbers"""" fo fa fo"""...but this rendition is very real.....peace World
@@genevareynolds7304 Quincy did his version nearly a decade after Herbie wrote it
@@pastense thanks for the info..💯
@@pastense Like Quincy's version the best but this is also wonderful.
Grown folk's Music, real instruments and real music!
I can't conceive the thought of anyone giving this masterful performance a thumbs down. Mind boggling.
Wow, I hadn’t even noticed the thumbs downs. Totally nuts - They were so great!
I love just the originals, Cedric Napoleon, James Lloyd and Curt Harmon. Mind you, these cats were only 18, and already three albums under their belt.....!
😘 Wow ... 👌
Exactly! They were young musical genius, indeed.
Don’t forget my brother James Lloyd who is the meat to the potatoes! That brother is a beast.. Grover knew what he was doing!
@@Naesman1167 I corrected myself. I meant James Lloyd, not James Harmon. Thanks.
I enjoyed this as much as the original from the Quincy Jones "Sounds and Stuff" album and I just listened to that before this !
Umm, the "Original' is by Herbie Hancock, not Quincy. His version is a cover as well
One of my favorite groups of all time! Their musical maturity and skill were way beyond their ages!!!!!
Big shout out to the bass player
The great Cedric Napoleon! The amazing thing is that Cedric could also really SING - check out another clip from this concert (czcams.com/video/So4SO-TK_Io/video.html)
They getting it straight raw talent effortless. Super underrated
One of favorite versions of this song. Was fortunate enough to see them live a few times. James Lloyd is amazing on keyboards
I had a chance to open for these guys in the '80s, once in Dayton and once in Rochester. They were mature beyond their years and were excellent musicians both individually and collectively. Thanks for the great post.
Better you did cuz I would hate to have to follow them
One of the best jazz bands of the 80’s, this track in particular is their best in my opinion and brings back great musical memories from that era, would love to see them live. Loving the Jupiter 8 and Rhodes! great musical combination.
It's an Arp Quadra I think, not Jup 8 although that is an amazing board!
@@lousehr so phat!!! Analog at its finest
@@lousehr Yes, that is a Jupiter 8 up there...
WOW They were so young and killing it back then!! I love my brothers!!
What a talented group of musicians🎸🎹🎼🎵🎶
Man is he tearing up that synthesizer!!! Would love to learn to play like that!!!
Thats Roland Jupiter 8 James playing
Who You Telling Brotha! He’s Bad on Them Synth Keys 🎹
Mr James Lloyd at his very best on keys in Pieces Of a Dream
Was thinking the same thing ... 🎼🎶
@KillerQueen Huh?
A very welcome distraction during this pandemic. I love Pieces of a Dream. 9/20/2020
Wow! Just Wow!
Pieces of dream version is great, smooth, stylish, we talking young brothers out of Philadelphia.
You're right I believe from the Mount Airy section of Philly.
Ok somebody better recognize these brothas are throwing down some straight heat!
I always thought this was Ramsey Lewis! DUH... one of my favorite groups of all time in any genre.
Sick! I'm blown away!
James Loyd great player
Fantastic pianist. Only 19 at the time and even looking a bit like a young Herbie Hancock.
Another nice one ... 💕🎹
Keyboard player is so busy (lol) . Nice groove !!
Yeah, poor guy, they should have hired a separate synth player, or grown him a third hand.
Great sound, so very well played
Magic stuff from the Pieces of a Dream
So much CHORUS (Love it)
They certainly did it justice
when people had the patience and didn't need to be hyper active for a concert.
Jazz concerts have always been this way, including present time. They are the only concerts I will attend.
Sweet baby cheeses ... not just telling a bedtime story. Testifying!
James Lloyd Looks Like He Could Pass For A Young "Kenny Kirkland"🎹 🙏P.R.I.H.P KK!!
Simply wonderful.
Gosh they were so young!!
I'm old enough that i remember seeing this performance on cable the same year, im 62, 23 or 24 then seems like a lifetime ago.
Sweet!!! 💯
thanks for posting.
Pisces of dream first time I heard them was at a little jazz club in Redondo Beach, what a performance, and that I will never forget.
This is "Tell me a Bedtime Story" by Herbe Hancock. Great version here!
Thank you so much! Appreciate your help.
I think Cedric is a better bass player than David
Thanks for the upload, bostonjazz80
Glad you enjoyed this! One of my favorite concerts ever.
Bring bacc Cedric, we miss him...
Incredible tune ‼
Pure Magic
Classy.
I always love these brothers
James Lloyd channeling Herbie Hancock.. The original guys did Philly proud…
Damn, my dudes!!!
I saw them also in 1984 ! They were great ! The girl I brought with me, not so great😢
Why did such musical taste and artistry all but disappear? Nowadays we have no-talent rappers winning all the so-called "music" awards, so sad !
Yes, they were brilliant musicians and charismatic and classy performers. Love this concert!
The music and musicians are still here. You have to keep up and follow them. Music will always be keyed toward the younger generation, but all music never disappear.@@bostonjazz80

@@duanejohnson4383 Agreed sir, but what has changed completely is the Grammy Awards, for instance, that was supposed to be NOT about popularity and trendiness. "Song-of-the-year" awards were about SONGWRITING, not "production/vocals/videos/choreography/ rapping," don't you think?
@@ronrobbins2737 what you don't know about the Grammys is that artists need to submit their works to be considered. And most of the time, your favorite artists don't do so. Not their fault, cuz you're already a fan right? I don't discredit the Grammys because there are still some notable people on their panel. So when you see someone receiving a Grammy, you should understand why. It's not because you know, someone else deserves it. It's because the panel has to decide upon what's presented upon them.
NUYCE!!!
❤❤❤
play on my brothers.
🥰🥰
🤩😃
I can't believe how much music sucks now, truly heartbreaking after hearing this performance. 🤭
They really had something to say but Smooth Jazz forced a bunch of great acts to crossover to survive. Such a shame but that’s life.
Measure of the bridge is 5/4.
They make it simple 4/4.
Don't know why
Most players that aren't full blown jazz artists have a hard time playing odd time signatures.
They kept it 4/4 time more less for the crowd because these brothers could play in just about any time signature even as young as they were during this performance.
When did they add Chris Bosh on guitar?!
I don't Know But That's Randy Bowland on guitar
@@howagarn Never knew Randy played with them! Great history lesson!
Cuentame un cuento antes de acostarse.
