    This is so helpful...my mother completed the needlepoint portion of a beautiful stocking before she died 8 years ago....I had no idea how to complete it and this video is so detailed and helpful. I am on my wqy to completing it for my 8 month old grandson...It will be from his grandmother and greatgrandmother! ( I do not have a sewing machine so i sewed it by hand and it came out great!) Thanks for taking the time to post such an informative video that a total novice can follow.

    I did 2 needle point stockings about 35 years ago when we bought our first home. They were beautiful and took a long time to make. But when I tried to put a backing on and hang them, it was pretty awful. When I took them out this year. I decided to try and figure out how to fix that. Your video was a huge help and they look so much better. Thank you very much.

    I did a needlepoint stocking for my husband when we were first married, but never knew how to finish it. It came with no backing or instructions. Thirty-three years later, I was determined to get it done, and found this wonderful tutorial. Thank you Katie.

    This is very helpful because I just finished the needlepoint and it is clear that a lining is needed before sewing the backing. Before I found this video, I was thinking I might have to iron on some sort of fusing or backing over the backside of the canvas. I like this much better.
    One suggestion from having had several of these stockings from my grandmother is that the felt hangers stretch out and break. My kit came with yarn to braid for the hanger and I am thinking of even incorporating a few strands of clear fishing line in there to give it secret strength.

    You literally saved me! I had a stocking by the same company and couldn't figure out howto line it. Thank you for the clear, consise directions. Also, the felt in the kit shouldn't be called felt...it is so cheaply made, I used quilted fabric for the back and it looks great.

    What if you want to add trim to the stocking with a lining? How do I do it?

      @SewCutebyKatietv  Před 3 lety +1

      Put the trim on top of the needlepoint and sandwich between the back piece.

    Hi, this was very helpful. I would like to back my needlepoint (like you did in white) with red Ultrasuede , which I will also use for the back. Since I can't see through the Ultrasuede like you can with the white...any suggestions? I am also not certain how I would put a nice finish on the Ultrasuede back...just do a hem? Thanks. I know, I think, how to do the old fashioned slippery lining, but this looks nicer. Thank you.

    • @SewCutebyKatietv
      @SewCutebyKatietv  Před 3 lety +2

      Lay a piece of paper over the needlepoint and trace around to create a pattern that might help you with a template for the ultrasuede. An you can just fold the top edge in and top stitch to finish the ultra suede if you are not lining the whole thing.

    The Stocking I just finished does not have a straight edge. The cross stitching goes straight and then it has me add one extra column then it goes straight and add a column. I wish I could explain it better. What do you do when you sew it?

    Why couldn’t you just iron the lining on? So confused

    • @SewCutebyKatietv
      @SewCutebyKatietv  Před 3 lety +1

      Do you have to use some kind of iron on adhesive and you don't want to put that onthe back of needlepoint plus it's to stiff.

    Excellent sewing instructions Though perhaps next video could be edited to eliminate wasted time , such as waiting for you to iron and sew completely around,. Just saying, otherwise it was very helpful and instructive. Thank you

      I agree, Mary! My mom used a kit for my children, but finished it lined and with a lovely fabric. Great Fil for assembly idea here though. Currently planning ahead for my grandchildren.
