    The Polygon Collosus is back for 2023, but not as you remember it! Featuring the unique IFS suspension design and contemporary geometry, this is one big-hitting enduro bike.
    This brand new, long travel enduro bike sits above the Siskiu series of trail bikes, and it is a decidedly bigger and burlier beast.
    Loaded with 170mm of travel front and rear, it’s purpose-built around 29in wheels. That puts it into a similar zone as the Trek Slash, GT Force, Cannondale Jekyll and Canyon Torque.
    Thanks to its reasonable price tag, solid build kit and contemporary geometry, we expect the Polygon Collosus N9 will be a popular enduro bike.

  • @MrSEANDEERE

    The weight thing shouldn't be something people shy away from with this bike. Polygon bikes are made with value and bang for buck in mind. These are bikes made for the person who doesn't have a massive budget but still wants quality and performance. Sure it's heavy but this also a bike made for smashing big Enduro lines and heavy park days. Also, keep in mind that it's very very well spect with very Good Fox Suspension, you have Fox 38 upfront easily being one of the burliest single forks on the market. You have shimano Deore XT drive train, again great value. SRAM code Breaks ect...
    I own a Modified Rocky Mountain Slayer A30. Yes the Alumnium version not the carbon. Why? Because I intend to ride this bike to death. I'm not a racer nor do I have tons of money. I ride Enduro and freeride lines where I climb and I also do chair assisted park so I wanted a tough and Reliable frame to count on. It's definitely not the lightest but I never really fear it failing me. I'm from the generation that pedaled DH/Freeride bikes in the early 2000's to 2010's before long travel Enduro bikes really became a thing with there big cassettes....we ride insanely capable bikes. Just do more squats at the gym and keep your cardio up. It's a sport....it take physical exertion! So if you want a tank of a bike at maximum bang for buck value...I don't think much can really give you what the Colussus N9 offers. This thing is truly a beast!

      I understand your point, but weight, though it might not be a “big deal” in the beginning, starts weighing you down the longer you ride it. For the price, it’s an excellent bike choice, but, my 2010 Giant Reign X2, that cost me $2300 in 2010, is as good as a bike as this Polygon Collossus N9 is. Yes, the Reign X2 doesn’t have as good of components, and is a 26er, but it would feel more agile and just as capable on 99% of trails. Being that’s a 14 year old bike now, kind of makes me wonder…

    Nice man! I am looking at this for my next enduro bike, and am wondering if you can mullet it with a 160mm fork. I know it would lower the bb a but but for a rider of my height, i would love this frame with a 27.5 rear wheel. I also love how it is a proper race bike, i need one for the local races and dh stuff i am getting into at thredbo, and think this bike (especially because its heavy) would perform better on the dh tracks.

    Great review Wil, I see that bikes online are also selling the Marin Alpine Trail XR for $300 cheaper (actually due to black Friday sales it is currently $1000 cheaper) than the Polygon Collosus N9. That bike is 14.8Kg in a medium. Is the extra capability and burly build kit worth the extra heft on the Polygon vs the Marin? Surely the 500m + of vertical climbing at the cascades got tiring on a nearly 18kg bike, despite the admirable support of the suspension platform? It was probably swiftly forgotten on the descent beyond what was formally known as the lunch room though 🤣

      @@DavidFoundCo I'd personally pick the Marin and at least for the majority of Australian trails 160/150mm will be enough travel. It would be interesting to see how the Collosus stacks up against the new breed of high pivot enduro bikes such as Norco Range, Cannondale Jekyll, GT Force and see whether the 6 bar suspension platform of the Collosus has distinct advantages (apart from cost)over similar weighted and intention high pivot bikes, which also require extra maintenance and complexity?

    I see why they are using the linkage, it actually reduces chain expansion as it travels deep and also keeps the chain stay shorter. It's smart, but does add weight and complexity. I'm assuming the extra performance was worth the weight.

  • @janeblogs324
    @janeblogs324 Před rokem +3

    If you complain about the weight of the bike sub to astonmtb, he's broken 5 modern lightweight frames in one summer. Google the commencal snapped frames etc. Light might be excellent for race runs, but maybe not if you plan to ride the bike for the next 15 years.
    Flow has an article comparing frame weights, this is on par with the meta frame for frame but the components are weighing it down

    • @MrSEANDEERE
      @MrSEANDEERE Před rokem

      Yeah for real. I have a 2022 Rocky Mountain Slayer A30. Yeah it ain't light but it's a f***ing tank. I can plow down just about anything and that beafy frame will stand the test of time. I come from an Old School DH/Freeride pedigree so I like my bikes tough even though I do a good amount of climbing. To compensate I just do squats at the gym and more XC laps on my hardtail during the week before work to get ready for weekend Enduro runs. Adapt don't complain is what I always say.

    Bit torn on this one. On one hand, it has arguably the best price to spec ratio on the market (I'd say the Marin Alpine Trail XR and Canyon Torque 29 AL6 are a close second), on the other hand it's heavier than some e-bikes and has altogether too many pivots and bearing in the back.
    I can forgive this linkage on the Mt Bromo, as they were trying to work around the constraints of a motor, but on a "standard" bike it's unnecessarily complicated and heavy, and I agree 100% that a bigger Siskiu T8 with Bromo geometry could have been perfect.
