  • I breakdown the Princeton offense. All clips are from NBA teams as I wanted to keep it on the NBA as the Princeton in college is run very differently. basketball explained.

    Thank you for this. I coach high school and run the Princeton offense. I been thinking of different options out of our low post sets. We normally just get back into Chin or high post sets but the double down screen is a nice change of pace.

    Double-Staggered Screen option is my favorite 😂😂😂.

    Another action on the low post series, on the swing thru the point (inside-out from the post or just from the wing), when the point reverse the ball to a side with two players, the high player automatically back doors and screens away for the post before vacating to the opposite corner.

    I love having the PF making the Low Post feed, so he can Screen Away for a kick-out Jumpshot.

    When Eddie Jordan ran this in Philly, I couldn't stand to watch it. But it does have its place with the correct personnel & in the right execution. Looking at the footage, it seemed to work best in Early-2000s NBA where there was a heavy emphasis on cutting swingmen & guys who were money from long-2 range.

    • @devvv4616
      @devvv4616 Před 4 lety

      could very easily be applied to guys who are money from the 3 (ie. modern 3 and D players and shooters)

    I see what Phil Jackson meant about today's NBA lacking "basketball I.Q." The Kings were awesome with the Princeton's multiple backdoor cuts.

    What is the ideal personnel for a Princeton offense? Like what type of player at each position?

    • @coachdaniel8163
      @coachdaniel8163  Před 8 lety +1

      +Danial Hafiz I think it's important to have a smart center who can pass and at least handle the ball around the perimeter. Like Vlade Divac with the Kings. But really most centers can play that position but you just can't have a Bismack Biyombo or something.

    Make Jason Kidd the Lakers NEW HEAD COACH next year for this.😂😂😂

    Is the Princeton really a great system to teach the game? Some say that it teaches a lot of fundamentals of plauer/ball movement

    • @coachdaniel8163
      @coachdaniel8163  Před 8 lety

      +siberianskip Depends on the level. For youth this is way too complicated, high school maybe. But yes fundamental basketball is taught. Though it is a system so there is not a whole lot of freedom.

    • @siberianskip
      @siberianskip Před 8 lety

      +Coach Daniel but it does seem to form movement around simple reads... If that makes sense.
      Anyway, thanks coach. Another thing I wanna ask is what's "pistol action"? I know about the pistol offense... But the" action" is referred to what?

    • @coachdaniel8163
      @coachdaniel8163  Před 8 lety

      siberianskip Its a basic 3 man game in early offense many NBA teams run. Funny you ask I have a video coming on it actually later this season but check this vid out for now. czcams.com/video/mRLwqP2GeUs/video.html

    Vlade Divac (Center) over at the Weak-side wing or short corner, NOT DUNKER's SPOT. 😀😀😀
    Anthony Davis's spot for the Lakers with new teammate, Dwight Howard in the Low Post. Must be the LEFT BLOCK so Howard can turn middle toward his right hand (dominant hand).

  • @TO-ph4kx

    Don't the Warriors use this too?

    • @coachdaniel8163
      @coachdaniel8163  Před 8 lety +1

      +TO Not true Princeton but elements of it. For example the split in front of the post they run.

    Keith Van Horn would qualify as the 2018 version of a Stretch-4 😎😎😎.

  • @deandrepage1048
    @deandrepage1048 Před 6 lety

    This works in 2017, coaches are just lazy. Pick & Roll satisfies the Russell Westbrook-style of PGs.

  • @hig5018
    @hig5018 Před 9 lety +2

    This offense is so inefficient, Morey would throw up watching this.

    • @coachdaniel8163
      @coachdaniel8163  Před 9 lety +9

      Its really not. Only if you want it to be. The long 2's you see in this video could all be 3's if taught that way. The elbow screen could be a a screen at 21 feet etc. But yes, Morey would throw up watching how Byron Scott runs this, meaning lots of mid-range shots.

    • @plusEV
      @plusEV Před 8 lety +1

      +Coach Daniel That was the one thing I was thinking when watching the clips. A lot of the teams have poor spacing giving them the inefficient long two and, more importantly, clogging the lane making penetration and back doors more difficult to execute.

  • @deandrepage1048
    @deandrepage1048 Před 5 lety

    Golden State Warriors copied the Post Feed & Screen Away concept. 😂😂

    • @_gamepoint_
      @_gamepoint_ Před 5 lety +1

      Thats because a lot of what they do is inspired by the triangle and the trianagle in turn was inspired by the princeton offense

    • @deandrepage1048
      @deandrepage1048 Před 5 lety +1

      @@_gamepoint_ I used Triangle Offense as a coach myself. 😀😀😀
      It has a Laker Cuts (cut through the middle or baseline) after Post Feed for a Give& Go return pass.
      No screening.

    • @deandrepage1048
      @deandrepage1048 Před 5 lety

      Correction no Screen Opposite

  • @mcfuckinanotheraccount808

    the spacing makes me cringe
