Maybe it's just me, but I can really feel the emotional difference between this and Phoenix's Pursuit themes. Phoenix's Pursuit has the feel of, well, a heroic turnabout, a sudden revelation that turns the tables and swings things in his favor. But with Edgeworth's Pursuit, it feels like the theme of everything going just as planned, where everything he's built up comes to a climax as he calmly reveals he had it all in the cards the whole time.
So basically, Phoenix has the "I've finally found the answer!" theme, Edgeworth has the "Hm. Imbecile. I've had the answer all along" really reflects them.
Edgeworth: I've known everything right from the beginning, my intellect precedes me. I have analyzed every piece of data since its arrival for months on end. Pheonix: *opens autopsy report for the first time* you guys will not believe this
In the Ace Attorney series, when you're on the right track or doing well, the music reflects that. But whenever I hear this in the game, it just makes me feel invincible, y'know?
After a decade, I think I've finally figured out why the title's translated as "Lying Coldly". The Japanese name is つきつめたくて, but whoever translated it must have misparsed it as つく "tell (a lie)" + つめたい "cold" and made it up with a free imagination. The fact is that it comes from つきつめる "examine thoroughly" + たい "want to", so should be rendered such as "gotta get to the bottom of this". The autopsy report needs an update.
While "Cornered" is more like you're fighting your way out of a hole using contradictions, this is giving: "You haven't even received the death penalty yet, but I'm already dancing on your grave"
Unironically if this ever actually played in a main series game where you're going up against Edgeworth and he's winning. That would be the best fanservice for me
This should be played when you're about to lose the case against Miles. Imagine you're getting too many penalties and getting cornered while hearing this catchy music.
Wright's theme gives you feeling like you've overturned everything upside down and found a way in an unwinnable situation. Edgeworth's theme makes you feel like everything you've build up to goes just as planned and it's time to deliver final justice.
