I saw the dog fight coming...lol...Doug used to love showing up to the Southwick Nationals with his bike in the back of a junky pickup with a bologna sandwich and beat 95% of the factory dudes with 18 wheelers...he IS THE MAN...Period
oaky132x that guy was and still is a true racer at heart. Love that this man put the heat on so many #1s in his career. Always a contender. Especially at Daytona. Love this guy.
What an epically wonderful attitude, Doug! “I got today, I’m not gonna waste it...” (51:20) All the best from the thousands of your fans out here who always have admired your grit. Great, insightful interview!
was at budds 96 and 97. this man is a hero of a human being whether he ever was an awesome racer or not.. ha, carsten was still racing privateer, i was at powerline practice track when i was 16 with my gma and he was with his little girl and my gma watched her while he rode.. i raced for yrs and havent in 10yrs and barry still going. he's got to be the longest racing guy in the history.. gotta love these northeast boys, doug, dowd, carsten.. never give up
made me teary eyed.cant believe its been 18 years sinice his budds creek crash,i remember watching it vividly.after all hes been through I respect his.good attitude and humbleness. hes a true role model..
Doug is a great guy. I met him for the 1st time in 1989. He and my cousin were friends and raced together . When i raced my 2nd 80cc race at southwick i will never forget my cousin and doug going over the track with me. Giving me riding tips lines what lines i should take stuff like that. From then on guys like my cousin Doug ,John Down, Tony Lorusso were my heros. Well and Jeff Word lol. Doug is a mans man and truly a home town hero. Hell we are from the same town. So thank u Doug
Doug stands taller than most, even when he's sitting down. A hero only dies once, a coward dies a thousand times. Your not willing to live, unless your willing to die. Doug was a pioneer in the 450 four stroke class.... His wife is "A-Robo-babe".
Wow ... Well done I followed his early career as a kid and really enjoyed his version of his history . And you asked all the right questions .. Worth watching for sure
Great job Chris and Doug... what a great job on this interview. I have some footage from an interview at Mototown with Doug that needs to be shared. The guy is such an inspiration for so many people.
Good interview Chris ... Doug is truly "The Man"! I used to see him at Loudon practicing Supermoto, railing some of those corners like he was on an MX track and there was a berm there, the corner speed, and the way he was controlling the bike was surreal. His attitude is a testament of the mental toughness that is needed to compete at such a high level in such a tough sport. Cheers Doug.
I always like doug Henry, plus he was Jeremy McGrath team mate. I remember that the honda team was dominating. I use to really love watching guys like Doug Henry, Jeremy McGrath, Mike LaRoco, and Kevin windham. That was a great time in supercross and motocross. God bless Doug Henry, he's one of the greats from that time.
Sir, sorry to hear about wife, hope she doing better... you are still the man... Southwick win coming off going right into heat stroke, you always rode 110 percent... and we're determined to do better, you had that drive which admired a lot and still do... sorry how things worked out... team coach like Roger decoster... you knowledge and experience, expertise can help make the next Doug Henry of motosports... Nice house and place... be positive Maybe being on the fast lane was just time to slow down and enjoy life and the impact on all these people s lives for the better. And the hope you give others to do better... Thank you
i'm on my 40s. I remember EVERY interview of my favourite rider of the 90s (i used to ride the same bike, the first 4st to even clinch an ama supercross event). I remember his interview holdin tight his son in front of his wife at budds creek, 1998, after his win (3 years after his horrendous crash on the same track). I remember him saying:"Man...I love this track!" and i suddenly realized how can motivation run a driver's focus on what he has to do...These are Men. The others...just check
Kids if you didn't remember any Doug's said remember your parents, thank them for taken you to the races cause you never make it to the pros without their help, l can pretty much guarantee that so be nice to your parents,I tried for ten years trying to do it on my own, cause my dad said he wasn't going to help,so I said okay,in my head was a different story thou,16 or 17 years old,ten years later the fire was still burning, but thinking the whole time I could do it alone, even though I race the bike alone, you really need support from people who are willing to make some sacrifices to help you even if its only volunteering their time,I had one good friend who brought me to the best race shop for dirtbikes, and repeatedly begged the guy to give me support, and a worked racebike to ride,he was really say you need to soon see this person they race al kinds of motorcycles, not just motocross and he didn't get it,no regrets still had fun racing pros in the new age classes that started being available, and holeshotten them I never care who was next to me on the line...great interview always good to see Doug no matter what he doin, great guy because he always gave 100 %...even Travis noticed,....
EVERY TIME that doug would come down to Budds Creek to race which was a track that I raced at as well he was ALWAYS THE FAN FAVORITE there!! Doug please come back to Budds Creek and do a few laps on your 450 there GUARANTEED EVERY PERSON WILL BE ON THEIR FEET CHEERING FOR YOU ONCE AGAIN BUDDY ! YOU ARE TRULY THE MAN THERE !!! I have almost the same spinal injury as doug ,severe spinal fusion operation that ended my racing career but like doug I still ride but only at a fun level instead of a expert/pro level motocrosser ... like my grandpa always used the saying KEEP ON TRUCKIN .
Probably 10 years ago or so I was at a place in Cheshire Connecticut and some crazy bastard was tearing ass around this place come to find out it was Doug Henry so least I got to say I rode with them he probably don't remember s*** but it look like he was putting in work practicing for Southwick. He is a true hero
Very good interview, Barry's and Tammy and family very down to earth like you Doug... A lot of Fans especially locally... Good luck, If I may ask, any thoughts on and if the bike had something like an attachment as a safety net, might have made a difference allowing your leg to slide out... Just a thought

and...i ride mx bikes, i ride enduro, i ride on the street. I know that something scary could happen, at the very worst moment. If i die..ok, i'm dead, nothing more to argue, i'm simply not here any more. But...i have always been worried about injuring my spinal cord. It's something u can't count it off. I'm always getting myself thinking about a quad, a vehicle i could even ride with my bare arms...it's something that def catches my thoughts very often. It's my mind that wants to have a "B plan"
What about a blood transfusion program?...if we can rig Doug up on a machine that will keep him within an inch of his life as we drain his blood and infuse some into each top rider (other than Dungy and Canard)... I have a wonderful memory of spending an hour or so out at the Honda test track when I was on business out west. I'm sure it was just another day for Doug and Jeremy; however, as much as I know they are just like all of us, those of us who attempted to make a living from this sport admire and appreciate those who did what most never think of and others never accomplish...Good man Doug Henry...good man.
This guy was a bad interviewerman back then lol. You're a fucking savage. You remind me of my brother in law. You look just like him. He raced too. Zachary lower.
It was the first interview I’ve ever done and to my idol so I was nervous to say the least! Regardless I came up with all the questions, contacting Henry, setting it up and that’s what’s important. But thanks for the comment. 😏

He broke his back and got paralyzed from the waist down. He modded his dirt bike making him able to shift on his handle bar. I know this cause I live in Torrington and has been to his track
Matt Harris he has had many accidents that left him wheelchair bound... however his most recent accident during supermoto practice in 2007 or 2009 (cant remember) left him permanently disabled from the waist down. he's really not disabled though, and he is still faster than 70% of guys at the tracks these days
Matt Harris i admire doug so much, he seems like a genuinely good guy. wishing i can meet him someday considering i only live 2 hours away from Conneticut in Rhode Island

When your leg is pinned between a 250lbs and a rock there is no safety net.
Maybe a safety net between the wall and the course.
